ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease(MASLD) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease. Clinical evidences have demonstrated the link between MASLD and the increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) development. We aimed to investigate the relationship between Life's Essential 8 (LE8), an enhanced approach to assessing cardiovascular health(CVH), and MASLD. METHODS: Data were extracted from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) in 2017-2020 cycles. MASLD was assessed by the latest diagnostic criteria. LE8 scores (range 0-100) were obtained from measurements based on American Heart Association definitions, divided into health factor and health behavior scores. Multivariable logistic and restricted cubic spline models were used to assess the associations. RESULTS: 5646 participants were included based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 2616 (46.33%) participants were diagnosed with MASLD. After adjusting for confounding variables, higher LE8 scores were associated with a lower risk of MASLD (OR = 0.19, 95%CI 0.17-0.21; P < 0.001), similar associations were also observed between health behavior and health factor scores with MASLD. Subgroup analyses illustrated that the negative association between LE8 score and MASLD was stronger among younger, non - Hispanic White, and never married participants. CONCLUSIONS: In this nationally representative sample of U.S. adults, LE8 scores, health behavior scores, and health factor scores were negatively associated with the prevalence of MASLD in non-linear fashions. Subjects maintaining ideal health factors and health behaviors are less likely to develop MASLD. Public health policies are needed to advocate healthy behaviors and factors.

ABSTRACT

This study assessed the physicochemical properties of air-fried hairtail fillets (190 °C, 24 min) under different storage temperatures (4, 25, and 35 °C). The findings revealed a gradual decline in sensory scores across all samples during storage, accompanied by a corresponding decrease in thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and total viable count over time. Lower storage temperatures exhibited an effective capacity to delay lipid oxidation and microbiological growth in air-fried hairtail fillets. Subsequently, alterations in the microbiota composition of air-fried hairtail fillets during cold storage were examined. Throughout the storage duration, Achromobacter, Escherichia-Shigella, and Pseudomonas emerged as the three dominant genera in the air-fried hairtail samples. Additionally, Pearson correlation analysis demonstrated that among the most prevalent microbial genera in air-fried hairtail samples, Achromobacter and Psychrobacter exhibited positive correlations with the L* value, a* value, and sensory scores. Conversely, they displayed negative correlations with pH, b* value, and TBARS. Notably, air-fried samples stored at 4 °C exhibited prolonged freshness compared with those stored at 25 °C and 35 °C, suggesting that 4 °C is an optimal storage temperature. This study offers valuable insights into alterations in the physicochemical properties and microbial distribution in air-fried hairtail fillets during storage, facilitating the improvement of meat quality by adjusting microbial communities in air-fried hairtail fillets.

ABSTRACT

Context: Although a monoallelic mutation in the calcium-sensing receptor (CASR) gene causes familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia (FHH), the functional characterization of the identified CASR mutation linked to the clinical response to calcimimetics therapy is still limited. Objective: A 45-year-old male presenting with moderate hypercalcemia, hypocalciuria, and inappropriately high parathyroid hormone (PTH) had a good response to cinacalcet (total serum calcium (Ca2+) from 12.5 to 10.1 mg/dl). We identified the genetic mutation and characterized the functional and pathophysiological mechanisms, and then linked the mutation to calcimimetics treatment in vitro. Design: Sanger sequencing of the CASR, GNA11, and AP2S1 genes was performed in his family. The simulation model was used to predict the function of the identified mutant. In vitro studies, including immunoblotting, immunofluorescence, a cycloheximide chase study, Calbryte™ 520 Ca2+ detection, and half-maximal effective concentration (EC50), were examined. Results: This proband was found to carry a de novo heterozygous missense I554N in the cysteine-rich domain of CASR, which was pathogenic based on the different software prediction models and ACGME criteria. The simulation model showed that CASR I554N mutation decreased its binding energy with Ca2+. Human CASR I554N mutation attenuated the stability of CASR protein, reduced the expression of p-ERK 1/2, and blunted the intracellular Ca2+ response to gradient extracellular Ca2+ (eCa2+) concentration. The EC50 study also demonstrated the correctable effect of calcimimetics on the function of the CASR I554N mutation. Conclusion: This novel CASR I554N mutation causing FHH attenuates CASR stability, its binding affinity with Ca2+, and the response to eCa2+ corrected by therapeutic calcimimetics.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Hypothyroidism is a rare and possible cause of hyponatremia. However, the clinical epidemiology and risk of mortality (ROM) when they coexist still remain elusive. OBJECTIVES: We assessed the epidemiology and ROM among index patients with coexisting hypothyroidism and hyponatremia via a national population database. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study utilized Taiwan's National Health Insurance program database. Distributions of definite sociodemographic factors were analyzed. The annual incidence among the overall group and sex-subgroups was investigated. In addition, potential factors influencing the ROM were also evaluated. RESULTS: Of 4,549,226 patients from 1998 to 2015, a total of 3,140 index patients with concurrent hypothyroidism and hyponatremia were analyzed. The incidence rate increased tenfold from 1998 to 2015; average annual incidence rate was 174. Among the total participants, 57.1% were women; mean age was 72.6 ± 14.7 years and 88.8% were aged > 55 years. Although average length of stay (LOS) was 13.1 ± 15.4 days, the mortality group had significantly longer LOS than that in the survival group (12.9 days vs 22.2 days). Old age, catastrophic illness, cardiac dysrhythmia, and low hospital hierarchy were independent predictors of hospital mortality. The optimal LOS cutoff value for ROM prediction was 16 days. Index patients with LOS > 16 days increased ROM by 2.3-fold. CONCLUSIONS: Coexistent hypothyroidism and hyponatremia is rare, although the incidence increased gradually. Factors influencing the ROM, such as old age, underlying catastrophic status, cardiac dysrhythmia, hospital hierarchy, and LOS should be considered in clinical care.

ABSTRACT

Ferroptosis is an iron-driven cell death modality characterized by iron accumulation and excessive lipid peroxidation. Ferroptosis is closely related to mitochondrial function, as indicated by studies showing that mitochondrial dysfunction and damage promote oxidative stress, which in turn induces ferroptosis. Mitochondria play crucial roles in cellular homeostasis, and abnormalities in their morphology and function are closely associated with the development of many diseases. Mitochondria are highly dynamic organelles, and their stability is maintained through a series of regulatory pathways. Mitochondrial homeostasis is dynamically regulated, mainly via key processes such as mitochondrial fission, mitochondrial fusion and mitophagy; however, mitochondrial processes are prone to dysregulation. Mitochondrial fission and fusion and mitophagy are intimately related to ferroptosis. Therefore, investigations into the dynamic regulation of mitochondrial processes during ferroptosis are important to provide a better understanding of the development of disease. In this paper, we systematically summarized changes in ferroptosis, mitochondrial fission and fusion and mitophagy to promote an in-depth understanding of the mechanism underlying ferroptosis and provide a corresponding reference for the treatment of related diseases.

ABSTRACT

A novel food processing technique based on the combination of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) and chitosan oligosaccharide treatment (COS) was developed to enhance antibacterial performance and extend the shelf life of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). Effects of different treatments on the microbial community composition, physicochemical properties, and post-storage behaviors of Pacific white shrimp were evaluated during chilled storage for up to 10 days. Results showed that the synergistic effects of COS and CAP could be obtained, largely inhibiting the growth of microorganisms. The content of total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), total viable counts (TVC), and pH value in treated groups were lower than in the control group and the loss of moisture content, water activity, and sensory score were observed. Compared to the control group, shrimp was on the verge of spoilage on the 6th day of storage, while the COS-CAP-treated shrimp had a 4-day lag period. Moreover, the COS and CAP could effectively inhibit the growth of Aliivibrio, the predominant microbial group in the ultimate storage period. This study suggests that the combined utilization of COS and CAP could be a high-efficacy technique for extending the shelf-life of shrimp.

BACKGROUND: The incidence rate of acute pancreatitis (AP), which is a pathophysiological process with complex etiology, is increasing globally. miR-125b-5p, a bidirectional regulatory miRNA, is speculated to exhibit anti-tumor activity. However, exosome-derived miR-125b-5p in AP has not been reported. AIM: To elucidate the molecular mechanism of exosome-derived miR-125b-5p promoting AP exacerbation from the perspective of the interaction between immune cells and acinar cells. METHODS: Exosomes derived from AR42J cells were isolated and extracted in active and inactive states by an exosome extraction kit, and were verified via transmission electron microscopy, nanoparticle tracking analysis, and western blotting. RNA sequencing assay technology was used to screen differentially expressed miRNAs in active and inactive AR42J cell lines, and bioinformatics analysis was used to predict downstream target genes of miR-125b-5p. The expression level of miR-125b-5p and insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) in the activated AR42J cell line and AP pancreatic tissue were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blots. The changes in the pancreatic inflammatory response in a rat AP model were detected by histopathological methods. Western Blot was used to detect the expression of IGF2, PI3K/AKT signaling pathway proteins, and apoptosis and necrosis related proteins. RESULTS: miR-125b-5p expression was upregulated in the activated AR42J cell line and AP pancreatic tissue, while that of IGF2 was downregulated. In vitro experiments confirmed that miR-125b-5p could promote the death of activated AR42J cells by inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. In addition, miR-125b-5p was found to act on macrophages to promote M1 type polarization and inhibit M2 type polarization, resulting in a massive release of inflammatory factors and reactive oxygen species accumulation. Further research found that miR-125b-5p could inhibit the expression of IGF2 in the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Additionally, in vivo experiments revealed that miR-125b-5p can promote the progression of AP in a rat model. CONCLUSION: miR-125b-5p acts on IGF2 in the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway and promotes M1 type polarization and inhibits M2 type polarization of macrophage by inhibiting IGF2 expression, resulting in a large release of pro-inflammatory factors and an inflammatory cascade amplification effect, thus aggravating AP.

Chemical and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC/MS)-based lipidomics analyses were performed to explore the alterations in lipid profiles in the hairtail muscle during air-drying. The peroxide value (POV) and carbonyl group value (CGV) in the air-dried hairtail (ADH) significantly increased with air-drying time. Lipidomics results revealed 1,326 lipids, which were grouped into 33 lipid categories, including 422 triglycerides (TGs), 170 phosphatidylcholines (PCs), 110 phosphatidylethanolamines (PEs), among others. In addition, ADH contained 131 and 201 differentially abundant lipids (DALs) at high and low levels, respectively. Among them, DALs, TGs, PCs, LPCs, and LPEs could be used to distinguish between ADH and FH samples. The apparent alterations in ADH and FH samples were attributed to lipid decomposition, side-chain modifications during oxidation, or oxygen- and salt-promoted lipid oxidation. Thus, this study provides a more comprehensive understanding of hairtail lipid profiles before and after air-drying which can be used as a guide for hairtail products.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To clarify the incidence of colonic complications in patients with NP and their impact on prognosis. Methods: The clinical data of NP patients admitted to the Department of General Surgery of Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University from January 2014 to December 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were grouped according to the presence or absence of colonic complications, and the clinical prognosis of the two groups was analyzed after matching using a 1:1 propensity score, The primary study endpoint was patient mortality during hospitalization. Data are reported as median (range) or percentage of patients (%). Results: A total of 306 patients with NP were included in this study, and the incidence of colonic complications was 12.4%, including 15 cases of colonic obstruction, 17 cases of colonic fistula, and 9 cases of colonic hemorrhage. Before matching, patients in the colonic group had severe admissions and poor clinical outcomes (P<0.05). After matching, the baseline data and clinical characteristics at admission were comparable between the two groups of patients. In terms of clinical outcomes, although the mortality was similar in the two groups (P>0.05), but patients in the colonic group were more likely to have multiorgan failure, length of nutrition support, number of minimally invasive interventions, number of extra-pancreatic infections, length of ICU stay and total length of stay were significantly higher than those of patients in the group without colonic complications (P<0.05). During long-term follow-up, patients in the colonic group were more likely to develop recurrent pancreatitis. Conclusion: About 12.4% of NP patients developed colonic complications, and after PSM it was found that colonic complications only led to a longer hospital stay and an increased number of clinical interventions in NP patients and did not increase the mortality.

OBJECTIVE: Exosomes have been identified as important carriers of various genetic materials, including microRNAs (miRNAs). Increasing evidence indicates that the course of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) is associated with miRNAs transported by exosomes. We aimed to identify the signature miRNAs as biomarkers of SAP. METHODS: We obtained exosomes from the SAP patients' blood. After separation, purification, and identification, we performed high-throughput sequencing and screened the differentially expressed(DE) miRNAs in the exosomes. Bioinformatics analysis was performed to identified the target genes of the miRNAs and the pathways enriched based on Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses, and selected the key miRNAs related to SAP. Total RNA was extracted from patient serum exosomes to detect the expression levels of the selected miRNAs in exosomes of three experimental groups (mild -, moderately severe -, and severe AP) and a control group, using Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). RESULTS: 272 DE miRNAs were identified between SAP and control group. Using bioinformatics analysis, we determined that the functions of the target genes were enriched in six signaling pathways including focal adhesion. Based on this, seven candidate signature miRNAs were selected: miR-603, miR-548ad-5p, miR-122-5p, miR-4477a, miR-192-5p, miR-215-5p, and miR-583. The RT-qPCR results of the seven miRNAs in the SAP group were consistent with the sequencing results. CONCLUSION: Exosome-derived miR-603, miR-548ad-5p, miR-122-5p, miR-4477a, miR-192-5p, miR-215-5p, miR-583 are positively correlated with SAP, which might provide new insights into the pathogenesis of SAP and serve as the biomarkers of SAP.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The incidence of acute pancreatitis (AP) is increasing. Twenty percent of AP patients with developing necrotizing pancreatitis (NP), while ~40-70% of NP patients develop potentially fatal infectious complications. When patients are suspected or confirmed infected pancreatic necrosis (IPN), antibiotics should be administered timeously to control the infection, but long-term use of antibiotics can lead to multidrug-resistant bacteria (MDRB) infection and eventually to increased mortality. Our study aimed to determine the incidence of MDRB infection and evaluate the risk factors for MDRB infection in IPN patients. Methods: Clinical data of IPN patients admitted to the general surgery department of Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2021, were retrospectively analyzed. Results: IPN patients (n = 267) were assigned to MDRB infection (n = 124) and non-MDRB infection (n = 143) groups. On admission, patients in the MDRB group had a higher modified computer tomography severity index (CTSI) score (P < 0.05), pancreatic necrosis degree, and PCT level (P < 0.05) than those in the non-MDRB group, and the prognosis of patients in MDRB group was poor. The most common gram-negative bacteria were Acinetobacter baumannii (n = 117), the most common gram-positive bacteria were Enterococcus faecium (n = 98), and the most common fungal infection was Candida albicans (n = 47). Multivariable analysis showed that complications of EPI (OR: 4.116, 95% CI: 1.381-12.271, P = 0.011), procalcitonin (PCT) level at admission (OR: 2.728, 95% CI: 1.502-4.954, P = 0.001), and degree of pancreatic necrosis (OR: 2.741, 95% CI: 1.109-6.775, P = 0.029) were independent risk factors for MDRB infection in IPN patients. Conclusion: We identified common infectious strains and risk factors for MDRB infection in IPN patients.

Background: Pancreatic cancer is an insidious and heterogeneous malignancy with poor prognosis that is often locally unresectable. Therefore, determining the underlying mechanisms and effective prognostic indicators of pancreatic cancer may help optimize clinical management. This study was conducted to develop a prognostic model for pancreatic cancer based on a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network. Methods: We obtained transcriptomic data and corresponding clinicopathological information of pancreatic cancer samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database (training set). Based on the ceRNA interaction network, we screened candidate genes to build prediction models. Univariate Cox regression analysis was performed to screen for genes associated with prognosis, and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis was conducted to construct a predictive model. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was drawn, and the C-index was calculated to evaluate the accuracy of the prediction model. Furthermore, we downloaded transcriptomic data and related clinical information of pancreatic cancer samples from the Gene Expression Omnibus database (validation set) to evaluate the robustness of our prediction model. Results: Eight genes (ANLN, FHDC1, LY6D, SMAD6, ACKR4, RAB27B, AUNIP, and GPRIN3) were used to construct the prediction model, which was confirmed as an independent predictor for evaluating the prognosis of patients with pancreatic cancer through univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis. By plotting the decision curve, we found that the risk score model is an independent predictor has the greatest impact on survival compared to pathological stage and targeted molecular therapy. Conclusions: An eight-gene prediction model was constructed for effectively and independently predicting the prognosis of patients with pancreatic cancer. These eight genes identified show potential as diagnostic and therapeutic targets.

BACKGROUND: Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD) is a cancerous tumor with an extremely poor 5-year survival rate. The exploration of biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of PAAD is crucial in clinical practice. Krüppel-like factors (KLFs) are involved in a variety of biological functions in cells. According to multiple studies, KLF16 behave as an oncogene in prostate, breast and gastric cancers. However, no research has been done on the significance of KLF16 in PAAD. AIM: To explore the molecular mechanisms of KLF16 in PAAD. METHODS: KLF16 was identified in the tumor specimens and normal tissues by GEPIA database and verified by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Knockdown or exogenous expression of KLF16, combined with in vitro and in vivo assays, was performed to show the functional significance of KLF16. The molecular mechanism of KLF16 was demonstrated by qRT-PCR, western blotting, immunoprecipitation assay and flow cytometry. RESULTS: We showed that KLF16 was highly expressed in PAAD patients based on the GEPIA database. KLF16 silencing suppressed while KLF16 overexpression promoted the malignant function of PAAD cells. Based on RNA sequencing, we discovered that KLF16 potentiated the expression of SMAD6 in PAAD cells. SMAD6 transcript abundance was increased and positively correlated with KLF16 expression in PAAD samples. In addition, inhibiting SMAD6 was able to mitigate the effects of KLF16 overexpression on PAAD cell processes, suggesting the importance of SMAD6 in the development of KLF16-triggered PAAD. CONCLUSION: KLF16/SMAD6 axis might be explored as a therapeutic target for PAAD therapy.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of deep frying (DF) and air frying (AF) on the quality and flavour profile of hairtail (Trichiurus lepturus) fillets. The changes of some physicochemical indices such as moisture content, oil content, colour, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and peroxide values (POV) in hairtail fillets were detected with increasing frying time. According to these physicochemical indices and sensory evaluation, deep frying for 7 min under 190 °C (DF7) and air frying for 24 min under 190 °C (AF24) were selected as samples for their great quality. The flavour fingerprint of hairtail (Raw, DF7, AF24) was developed and volatile compounds were investigated by HS-GC-IMS. A total of 28 volatile substances including aldehydes, alcohols, ketones and others were identified both in the DF7 and AF24 samples. There are differences in the aroma fingerprint between the DF7 and AF24 samples. DF was characterised by 2-Heptanone, (E)-2-Heptenal, 2-Pentyfuran and 1-Pentanol, AF was characterised by 2-methylbutanol, Ethyl methyl ketone-M and 3-hydroxy-2-butanone. These findings suggest that the aroma of hairtail fillets after DF7 and AF24 was significantly different and supply flavour information and practical applications of the fried hairtail fillets.

ABSTRACT

The review article entitled "Exosomes as potential diagnosis and treatment for liver cancer " recently published in World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology 2022; 14: 334-347 concluded that exosomes can be used as effective biomarkers or therapeutic biotargets in liver cancer. Exosomes are a hot spot in the field of tumor diagnosis and treatment research. We had also previously published a review on exosomes and tumors. In this letter to the editor, we summarize the clinical application prospects and current challenges of exosomes.

ABSTRACT

Exosomes can be released by a variety of cells and participate in intercellular communication in many physiological processes in the body. They can be used as carriers of cancer therapeutic drugs and have natural delivery capabilities. Some biologically active substances on exosomes, such as major histocompatibility complex (MHC), have been shown to be involved in exosome-mediated anticancer immune responses and have important regulatory effects on the immune system. Exosome-based drug delivery systems hold great promise in future cancer immunotherapy. However, there are still substantial challenges to be overcome in the clinical application of exosomes as drug carriers. This article reviews the biological characteristics of exosome drug delivery systems and their potential applications and challenges in cancer immunotherapy.

ABSTRACT

Compared with heteroarenes, homogeneous asymmetric hydrogenation of all-carbon aromatic rings is a longstanding challenge in organic synthesis due to the strong aromaticity and difficult enantioselective control. Herein, we report the rhodium/diphosphine-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of all-carbon aromatic rings, affording a series of axially chiral cyclic compounds with high enantioselectivity through desymmetrization or kinetic resolution. In addition, the central-chiral cyclic compounds were also obtained by asymmetric hydrogenation of phenanthrenes bearing a directing group. The key to success is the introduction of chiral diphosphine ligands with steric hindrance and strong electron-donating properties. The axially chiral monophosphine ligands could be obtained by simple conversion of the hydrogenation products bearing the phosphine atom.

Background: Drug-induced pancreatitis is a rare cause of acute pancreatitis. Tacrolimus has been used as an immunosuppressant agent in patients after organ transplantation. However, only a few case reports of tacrolimus-induced acute pancreatitis in kidney transplantation have been reported. The purpose of this case report is to alert clinicians that tacrolimus-induced acute pancreatitis may occur during tacrolimus therapy in kidney transplant patients. Case Presentation: We present the case of a 38-year-old woman who underwent kidney transplantation and received immunosuppressive therapy with tacrolimus; on day 20 post-transplantation, she presented with acute abdominal pain in the middle and left areas of the abdomen accompanied by diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. We excluded gallstone disease, alcohol, hypertriglyceridemia, and other possible causes, and speculated that tacrolimus was the probable cause of pancreatitis because of the extremely high blood concentration of tacrolimus. After tacrolimus was changed to cyclosporine, her symptoms were gradually improved, and she was discharged home without relapse. Conclusion: Tacrolimus is a rare cause of pancreatitis after kidney transplantation. It is important to note that tacrolimus-induced acute pancreatitis may occur during tacrolimus therapy in kidney transplantation patients.

ABSTRACT

Aim: To explore the indications for early intervention in patients with acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP) and evaluate the effect of early intervention on the prognosis of ANP patients. Methods: The clinical data of patients with ANP who underwent general surgery at Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2020, were collected retrospectively. The patients were followed-up every 6 months after discharge, and the last follow-up date was June 30, 2021. Results: A total of 98 patients with ANP were included in the study. They were divided into an early group (n= 43) and a delayed group (n = 55) according to the first percutaneous drainage (PCD) intervention time (≤ 4 weeks or > 4 weeks). Body temperature, inflammatory factor levels, and the number of patients with persistent organ failure (POF) were higher in the early group than in the delayed group. After the minimally invasive intervention, the body temperature and inflammatory factors of the two groups decreased significantly, most patients with POF improved, and the number of patients with reversal of POF in the early group was higher than that in the delayed group. Although the patients in the early group required more surgical intervention than those in the delayed group, there was no significant difference in mortality, incidence of postoperative complications, total length of hospital stay, or operation cost between the two groups. During long-term follow-up, there was no significant difference in the incidence of short-term and long-term complications and overall survival between the two groups. Conclusions: Compared to patients in the delayed group, early intervention did not affect the prognosis of patients with ANP. It may be more suitable for patients with ANP with deterioration [such as POF or infected pancreatic necrosis (IPN)].

A novel transfer-catalyst-free biomimetic reduction of the tetrasubstituted olefins 3-sulfonyl coumarins with the chiral and regenerable [2.2]paracyclophane-based NAD(P)H model CYNAM has been developed, affording chiral 3-sulfonyl dihydrocoumarins with excellent enantioselectivities.
