ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate the occupational health risk of decorative coating manufacturing enterprises and to explore the applicability of occupational hazard risk index model in the health risk assessment, so as to provide basis for the health management of enterprises. Methods: A decorative coating manufacturing enterprise in Hebei Province was chosen as research object, following the types of occupational hazards and contact patterns, the occupational hazard risk index model was used to evaluate occupational health risk factors of occupational hazards in the key positions of the decorative coating manufacturing enterprise, and measured with workplace test results and occupational health examination. Results: The positions of oily painters, water-borne painters, filling workers and packers who contacted noise were moderate harm. And positions of color workers who contacted chromic acid salts, oily painters who contacted butyl acetate were mild harm. Other positions were harmless. The abnormal rate of contacting noise in physical examination results was 6.25%, and the abnormality was not checked by other risk factors. Conclusion: The occupational hazard risk index model can be used in the occupational health risk assessment of decorative coating manufacturing enterprises, and noise was the key harzard among occupational harzards in this enterprise.

ABSTRACT

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the most common form of endocrine disease in humans; genetic factors are known to contribute to the development of this disease. In this case-control study, we investigated the relationship between the -1082G/A, -819C/T, and -592C/A polymorphisms in interleukin 10 (IL-10) and the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus in a Chinese population. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (N = 228) and control subjects (N = 240) were recruited from the Department of Endocrinology at the People's Hospital of Linyi City, between September 2013 and April 2015. The IL-10 -1082G/A, -819C/T, and -592C/A polymorphisms were genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Multivariate logistic regression analyses revealed that patients carrying the AA genotype of IL-10 -592C/A were at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus compared to those carrying the CC genotype [adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 1.74; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.03-2.95]. In addition, individuals carrying the A allele of IL-10 -592C/A showed a 1.34-fold higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus compared to those carrying the C allele (adjusted OR = 1.34; 95%CI = 1.03- 1.75). There was no significant correlation between the IL-10 -1082G/ A and -819C/T polymorphisms and risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In conclusion, this study shows that the -1082G/A polymorphism of IL-10 contributes to the onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and may be considered a biomarker for early screening of type 2 diabetes mellitus in the Chinese population studied here.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To screen sensitive indicators of renal injury in lead workers using benchmark dose method. Methods: Of the 486 subjects,116 did not occupationally contact to lead as a control. The blood lead was considered as exposure biomarker, while Uß2-MG and UNAG as effect biomarkers for renal injury. The BMD and BMDL of blood lead were estimated at the 10% benchmark response using BMDS Version 2.6. Results: There was statistical rise in blood lead between the lead group and control group (P<0.05) ; and the blood lead level was divided into four groups by quarterback spacing method, among which UNAG was statistically different (P<0.05) . There was an increased prevalence of abnormal rates of Uß2-MG and UNAG with increasing blood lead concentration (P<0.05) , after trend chi-square test. BMD and BMDL of UNAG and Uß2-MG were 602.784/431.838 µg/L and 130.398/100.981 µg/L caculated by Log-Probit model, respectively. Conclusions: Occupational lead exposure may cause kidney damage, and UNAG could be as a more sensitive marker for monitoring early renal injury than Uß2-MG.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The correlation of vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphism and blood lead level had been in doult, which allowed us to write this article. METHODS: Relevant studies about the blood lead and VDR B/b gene polymorphism which published from 1979-2015, were searched in multiple bibliographic databases, such as: CNKI, Wanfang Database, PUBMED. Of the ten references selceted, three were divided into two groups which were classified as different researches, so there were thirteen studies in the meta-analysis. According to the level of blood lead, the studies were analyzed by three groups: normal group, low dose grou and high dose group. The analysis was performed by stata 12.0 software. RESULTS: The blood lead level of VDR B/b genotype was significantly difference in all the three groups (P<0.05) , but there were apparent heterogeneity between normal group and low dose group (P<0.05, I(2)=84.2%; P<0.05, I(2)=88.9%) , except the high dose group (P>0.05, I(2)=12.7%) ; after adjusted, all showed no heterogeneity, and the results were still the same. CONCLUSION: The genotype of VDR may be correlated with blood lead, and the levels of blood lead varied with different genetypes.

BACKGROUND: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) under favorable conditions secrete a spectrum of cytokines that promote the survival of surrounding cells via paracrine mechanisms. We explored the impact of rat pancreatic extract (RPE) on cytokine secretion by MSCs and examined the influence of administration of conditioned media of MSCs treated with RPE on blood glucose levels in diabetic rats. METHODS: Cytokine levels (IGF-1, VEGF, bFGF) in conditioned media of MSCs treated with RPE were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. We estimated blood glucose levels of STZ-induced diabetic rats following intraperitoneal injection of conditioned media from RPE-treated MSCs. We analyzed histopathology of pancreatic islets by insulin immunostaining and apoptosis through a TUNEL assay. RESULTS: Levels of IGF-1, VEGF, and bFGF were significantly increased in RPE-CM compared with control media. Administration of conditioned media of RPE-treated MSCs significantly lowered the blood glucose levels of diabetic rats. After RPE treatment the insulin-positive area was increased and apoptosis of pancreatic beta cells decreased. CONCLUSION: RPE enhanced the secretion of cytokines by MSCs. MSCs in the pancreatic microenvironment may exert indirect salutary effects via paracrine mediators on injured pancreatic cells in an STZ-induced diabetic animal model. The secreted factors may exert their therapeutic benefits by preventing apoptosis of pancreatic beta cells.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Involvement of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of diabetic microvascular complications has been proposed. Recently, 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) has been reported to serve as a new sensitive biomarker of the oxidative DNA damage in vivo. This study was undertaken to investigate whether the urinary levels of 8-OHdG are altered in patients with type 2 diabetes. The authors also attempted to analyze the relationship between 8-OHdG levels and other clinical parameters of patients with diabetes, especially the relationship between oxidative DNA damage and the severity of the retinal lesions in patients with diabetic retinopathy. METHODS: The authors studied 60 patients with type 2 diabetes and compared them with 35 nondiabetic control subjects. Urinary 8-OHdG concentrations were assayed using competitive enzymelinked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: The patients with type 2 diabetes had significantly higher concentrations of 8-OHdG in their urine than the control subjects (19.6+/-6.7 vs 11.9+/-4.9 ng/mgCr; p<0.05). The authors could not find any correlation between urinary 8-OHdG levels and age, duration of diabetes, or serum lipids. However, HbA1c values were significantly correlated with 8-OHdG values. Among the patients with diabetes, those with proliferative retinopathy had significantly higher 8-OHdG levels than those with nonproliferative retinopathy or without retinopathy. CONCLUSIONS: The authors' findings show that measuring urinary 8-OHdG is a novel convenient method for evaluating oxidative DNA damage in patients with diabetes, and it is also suggested that 8-OHdG could be a sensitive biomarker and may be helpful for the early diagnosis and treatment of patients with diabetic retinopathy.

ABSTRACT

Electrical resistivity, dc magnetization, ac magnetic susceptibility, and magnetic relaxation studies of polycrystalline Pr(0.2)La(0.8)Fe(11.4)Al(1.6) compound have been carried out. On the basis of the measurements of isofield magnetization and ac magnetic susceptibility, we provide evidence for phase coexistence (the appearance of the ferromagnetic phase in the antiferromagnetic matrix) rather than a spin glass, resulting in a cusp observed at ∼70 K in the zero-field-cooled thermal magnetization curve under low fields. The ferromagnetic clusters or nuclei appear randomly in the antiferromagnetic matrix according to the electrical resistivity results. An excellent magnetic-resistive correspondence is observed under medium fields. Under these fields large relaxation effects are presented in the vicinity of the phase transition temperature. Nonuniform variation of the relaxation rate with temperature gives a clear picture of the nucleation and growth of phases. Distinct metastable behavior is shown during the phase transition, which brings about the step-like behavior in the various magnetization curves.

ABSTRACT

A culture flask was designed for the microcalorimetric measurements of tissue cells by an MS 80 standard calvet microcalorimeter. Tissue cells cultured in this flask behaved in the same manner as in the common culture flask used in cytobiological studies. The thermograms of human adenocarcinoma gastric cells (SGc 7901) and HeLa cells were obtained. The heat output power of SGc 7901 cells continuously increased for 70 h with an initial cell number of 3.0 X 10(5). The thermogram was reproducible under strictly controlled conditions. The relationship between the heat output power and the number of SGc 7901 cells within 48 h was obtained. The heat output power was 40 pW/cell to 49 pW/cell when the cell number was in the range 4.5 X 10(5) to 10.4 X 10(5). It was 62.3 +/- 2.9 pW/cell for HeLa cells when the cell number was 6 X 10(5).
