ABSTRACT

Two new species of the leucophoropterine plant bug genus Sejanus Distant are described, namely S. epicurus n. sp. (Pingtung, Taiwan) and S. ryujin n. sp. (Nagasaki, Japan). Both species were recently confirmed to be associated cryptically with the bracts and flower buds of Hibiscus spp. (Malvaceae). An updated key is provided to aid in identification of the Japanese and Taiwanese congeners.

ABSTRACT

The Japanese fauna of the myrmecomorphic plant bug genus Pilophorus Hahn is updated and reclassified. Seventeen species are now recognized, including three herein described as new, P. hyotan, P. satoyamanus and P. setulosellus; and P. pullulus Poppius, 1914 which is reinstated as valid and recorded from Japan for the first time. The identity of P. okamotoi Miyamoto Lee, 1966, originally described from Korean Jeju Island and previously confused with P. satoyamanus n. sp., is reconfirmed and rediagnosed. Frequently misidentified species, P. erraticus Linnavuori, 1962 P. pseudoperplexus Josifov, 1987 and P. setulosus Horváth, 1905 as well as the little known taxon, P. choii, are rediagnosed. The distribution and diagnostic features of P. typicus (Distant, 1909) are presented in light of the recognition of P. hyotan n. sp. An updated checklist and a key to genera and species of the tribe Pilophorini are provided to aid in unequivocal identification of every Japanese pilophorine taxon. A new species of Pherolepis Kulik from Kyushu, P. hizenicus, is also described.

ABSTRACT

A total of twelve species in five genera belonging to the phyline plant bug tribe Hallodapini are treated. Two new species are described from Indochina: Cleotomiris inthanon Duwal & Yasunaga sp. nov. (Thailand) and Cleotomiroides vietnamensis Duwal & Yasunaga sp. nov. (Vietnam). New distributional records are also presented for some known species of Hallodapus Fieber and Wygomiris Schuh. Hallodapus persimilis (Poppius) is proposed as a junior synonym of H. ravenar (Poppius). Illustrations of the endosoma for four species, including the new species, are presented. Digital images of the male genitalic structures are shown for nine species, including the two new species, and also female genitalic structures of the species of Cleotomiris Schuh, Cleotomiroides Schuh and Wygomiris Schuh, are provided. The immature forms are documented for the first time for Acrorrhinium inexpectatum (Josifov) and Wygomiris kaliyahae Yasunaga.

ABSTRACT

The Indochinese phyline plant bugs, belonging to the recently established tribe Decomiini Schuh & Menard, are reviewed. Fourteen species in four genera, Decomia Poppius, Decomioides Schuh, Malaysiamiris Schuh and Rubrocuneocoris Schuh, are now recognized from Indochina, including a remarkable new species, Decomia ishikawai Yasunaga, Duwal & Lee n. sp., herein diagnosed, described and discussed. The male of Decomia nigrissima Yasunaga, described only on the holotype female, is for the first time reported. An annotated checklist and a key to genera and species are provided to facilitate identification of the Indochinese taxa of the Decomiini.

ABSTRACT

A unique phyline plant bug representing a new genus and a new species, Peniculimiris meniscus, is documented on the basis of a pair of specimens collected from Nakhon Ratchasima, central Thailand and Palawan, the Philippines. The new genus Peniculimiris, herein placed in the tribe Hallodapini, is characteristic in having a bundle of brush-like, stiff setae on the scutellum and presence of a ventral spine on the genital segment of each sex. The phylogenetic position of Peniculimiris in the Hallodapini and the function of the spines are discussed.

ABSTRACT

Three new species of the ant-mimetic plant bug genus Pilophorus Hahn, P. maeharai, P. nakatanii and P. tagoi, are described from Japan, with information on their host associations. The genus is briefly diagnosed and discussed, including P. typicus (Distant) which is assumed to have two genotypes based on mitochondrial sequence data. The generic placement of P. tagoi, at first sight reminiscent of a certain member of Pherolepis Kulik, is also proven definitely. A checklist of all currently known species of Pilophorus in Japan is provided, with compiled distribution and host records.

ABSTRACT

The subfamily Phylinae (Miridae) of the Korean Peninsula are catalogued. A total of 88 species are recorded from the Korean Peninsula. This catalogue is based on all available published and unpublished data, mostly representated by recent findings by Duwal in Korean region from 2010‒2015. Phylus miyamotoi Yasunaga 1999 is found for the first time from the Korean Peninsula and several species such as Atractotomus morio Sahlberg 1883, Harpocera choii Josifov 1977, H. koreana Josifov 1977, Phylus coryloides Josifov & Kerzhner 1972, and Rubrocuneocoris quercicola Josifov 1987 are newly reported from South Korea in this study. All taxa in this study are arranged according to the latest revised classification of Phylinae by Schuh & Menard (2013). Also, color image of dorsal habitus of each available species is provided.

ABSTRACT

Eleven new species of the plant bug subfamily Phylinae are described: Campylomma koraticola, C. nanna, C. pimai, C. salaciella, Cleotomiris levigatus, Cl. sakaeratensis, Cl. similissimus, Decomia anthophila, Malaysiamiris nigrescens, Rubrocuneocoris anandros and Sejanus adustopaca. In addition, Campylomma chitwanensis, which described originally from southeastern Nepal, is confirmed in Thailand and diagnosed, and the female is documented for the first time as well. Photographic images of live individuals are figured for most new species, and those for C. chitwanensis and Decomia taksini are presented for the first time. An annotated checklist of all currently known taxa including new distributional records, also from neighboring Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, is provided. Some additional photographic images are also presented for little known taxa. The genus Artchawakomius Yasunaga of the tribe Hallodapini is proposed to place in Leucophoropterini. And furthermore, a Chinese species, Rubrocuneocoris lanceus Li & Liu, is transferred to Atractotomoidea Yasunaga.

ABSTRACT

Five species of Europiella (Phylinae: Phylini) including three newly reported species, E. artemisiae (Becker, 1864), E. kiritshenkoi Kulik, 1975, and E. miyamotoi (Kerzhner, 1988), are recognized for the first time from Korea, and Europiella albipennis (Fallén, 1829) is removed from the Korean list. A new genus Europiellomorpha Duwal n. gen., is proposed to accommodate Plagioganthus lividellus (Kerzhner, 1979) (= Europiella lividellus). A key to the Korean species of Europiella, diagnosis, and descriptions of both male and female genitalia are provided.
