ABSTRACT

The Central Research Institute of Tuberculosis of the USSR Ministry of Public Health is engaged in the work for the development of the computed automatized dialogue system--counsel of a physician on questions of the optimization of examination of patients of the ++phthisio-pulmonologic profile under dispensary conditions, which is based on the statistical methods of image discrimination. The system helps in solving tasks of differential diagnosis, diagnostic volume of patients examination and development of recommendations for the further management of patients.

ABSTRACT

A fundamental statistical analysis of the questionnaire given to 2089 first-year and last-year students of 9 medical institutes of the country was carried out within the framework of study of the "Smoking and Health" International Committee. The number of smokers per day was 21.6%. Awareness of smoking association with the development of certain diseases is 2-3 times higher in the last-year students than in the first-year ones. Among the nonsmokers 87.6% supported the need to limit smoking in public places, 79.2% to prohibit tobacco selling to children, 66.6% to prohibit advertisement of tobacco products and 82 supported the idea of instructing doctors in methods for treating smoking. Smokers were less enthusiastic in supporting the proposed measures. Among the smokers 53% claimed failure in giving up smoking. The main responsibility in banning smoking falls on medical profession.

ABSTRACT

Basing on 1957 autopsies of the patients with active forms of TB that has been incorrectly diagnosed either intravitally, or postmortEM, the authors distinguish 5 forms of discrepancy between the pathoanatomical and clinical diagnoses. Thus, spread progressive TB was primarily diagnosed postmortem in 12.3%; the discrepancy of the diagnoses in form, stage, specific TB complications was found in 46.5%; "pseudo-diagnosis" of TB was made in 1.7%; the difference in the diagnoses concerning the associated diseases was noted in 26.6%; no information on TB in the pathoanatomical diagnosis when death occurred of other diseases and accidents was found in 12.9%. To improve the intravital and postmortal diagnosis of TB the authors recommend to organize a course of lectures on TB for different specialists, as well as to introduce special cards of emergency to be sent by the pathologic anatomists and medicolegal experts to the antituberculous dispensaries.

ABSTRACT

A modified variant of the functional classification of patients with ischemic heart disease standard for all stages of rehabilitation is suggested. It is based on the rate with which the program of treatment is fulfilled and on the determination of the clinico-functional parameters and the physiological reaction of the patient during rehabilitation. The classification was tested on 98 patients with macrofocal myocardial infarction (average age 53.5 years) who underwent a successive rehabilitation program at the inpatient, sanatoria, out-patient stages with a subsequent two-year follow-up as out-patients after they had resumed working. The classification proved sufficiently informative in regard to the prognostication of the restoration of working capacity and the character of the course taken by ischemic heart disease.

ABSTRACT

Properties of human creatine kinase isoenzymes (MM, MB and BB) are investigated. The most pronounced differences in properties of these isoenzymes are found under their urea inactivation, heat denaturation and the inhibition by rabbit antisera to isoenzymes. Differences in values of the Mikhaelis constant and substrate and pH dependencies are much less pronounced. The presence of ADP stabilizes creatine kinase isoenzymes under conditions of urea and heat inactivation. Properties of hybrid MB isoenzymes are found to be intermediate with respect to MM and BB isoenzymes. A mode of the interaction of M and B subunits in dimeric molecules of creatine kinase isoenzymes is discussed.
