ABSTRACT

The article discusses the results of treatment of acute ischemia of the pleura in 60 children with the use of intracavitary laser therapy. The empyema cavity was irradiated through a quartz flexible monocrystal light guide. The authors studied the effect of helium-neon laser beam on the empyema microflora, the condition of immunity, and the specific features of the clinical course of acute empyema of the pleura. Treatment by helium-neon laser radiation promotes rapid closure of bronchopleural fistulas, reduces the period of treatment, causes an immunocorrection effect, and does not exert a bactericidal effect on the flora.

ABSTRACT

Electron microscopic examinations of the lungs of animals with the model of experimental staphylococcal destruction of the lungs have revealed the regeneration of lung tissues which took place by the 6th month from the onset of the disease. The stimulating effect of laser radiation on the cell growth at the expense of mitosis was observed in the culture of epithelioid cells of the lung tissue. Findings of bronchography, angiopulmonography and an analysis of the function of external respiration in 10 patients have shown a complete anatomical and functional recovery of the alveolar tissue in sites of the former localization of pulmonary abscesses.

ABSTRACT

Destructive processes in the lungs caused by staphylococci (SDL) were found to result in changes to the lipid metabolism in the lung parenchyma and organism of the patient which seemed to bring about disturbances in the pulmonary surfactant. Complex therapy made it possible to decrease the mortality rate in a group of 200 patients with SDL from 24% to 7%.
