ABSTRACT

The authors report two uncommon cases of incidental superior mesenteric vein aneurysm in two asymptomatic women. Patients underwent ultrasonography, CT and MR angiography. The etiology, clinical features and treatment are discussed along with a review of to the literature.

ABSTRACT

We describe an unusual case of pulmonary neuroendocrine carcinoma of intermediate cell type, revealed by calcified metastatic nodules of the brain in a 49-year-old man. Histological examination of the brain lesions disclosed necrosis and calcification in the center with small and medium-sized carcinoma cells. Pathophysiological mechanisms of such calcifications in metastasis lesions are reviewed.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Digestive pneumatosis corresponds to the presence of air in a wall of digestive tract. It is common to oppose primary cystic-type pneumatosis, involving the left colon, with linear-type pneumatosis that may affect the whole of the digestive tract. OBSERVATION: In a 41 year-old man presenting with Sharp's syndrome, abdominal pain occurred revealing an isolated right colon pneumatosis. Although abdominal tomodensitometry showed a strictly linear pneumatosis, colposcopy revealed voluminous cysts. CONCLUSION: With this case report, the limits of tomodensitometry in distinguishing linear from cystic forms are apparent. The importance of avoiding surgery is underlined. Our patient presented with a pneumo-peritonitis only requiring medical treatment since this disease generally regresses spontaneously.

ABSTRACT

Two cases of superficial bony metastases from colonic adenocarcinoma are reported. The plain film, CT and MR features are presented. The diagnostic imaging features and differential diagnosis are discussed. Superficial bony metastases are rare (2% of bony metastases) and only the characteristics of cortical bone vascularization allow to understand the superficial origin at the level of the cortex or subperiosteum. Magnetic resonance imaging is the modality of choice to characterize the tumor site and local extension. Diagnosis is suspected by clinical history and confirmed at biopsy.

ABSTRACT

We report two cases of pulmonary tumor emboli. The first patient had a chondroblastic osteosarcoma of the pelvis while the second patient had a seminoma. The possibility of tumor emboli should be entertained in patients with prior history of malignancy presenting with enlargement of the pulmonary arteries and thrombus enhancement on delayed scans.

ABSTRACT

We describe a case of unilateral and spontaneous adrenal hematoma. Initial and follow up MRI examinations showed serial modifications typical of hematoma and allowed to exclude a preexisting non hyperfunctioning tumor. MRI findings modified the therapeutic attitude, a voiding surgery.

ABSTRACT

Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis is most frequently characterised by the presence of gaseous cysts, in the intra-parietal, subserous or sub-mucous zones of the colon. This complaint, with symptoms of non specific colic and the cause of chronic pain, generally progresses favourably but can be responsible for surgical complications. Characteristic signs are detected on an plain abdominal X-ray and by colonoscopy. The diagnosis can be established by CT or by ultrasonography but needs carefully trained operators. CT remains the most successful technique for the initial diagnosis and subsequent follow-up. Ultrasonography can also be used for follow-up. As the lesions regress rapidly, the diagnosis must established rapidly, otherwise the disorder might easily be incorrectly diagnosed.
