ABSTRACT
An extensive hemangioma of the lower face is discussed as an example illustrating the use of therapeutic--particularly preoperative--arterial embolization in the treatment of extensive facial hemangiomas. In this procedure a thrombusinducing material is inserted into the lumen of a blood vessel to occlude this vessel, and thus to reduce blood flow to the lesion. This promising technique opens up new possibilities in the treatment of extensive hemangiomas of the maxillofacial region. It may be used either as a definite therapy or as pretreatment procedure enabling a safer and simpler surgical approach.

Tumors of the parotis and surrounding tissues can be examined by CT, by CT-sialography ot by intravenous contrast medium injection. In five special cases in which we examined parotis and surrounding tissues we report on our experiences with the methods.

Chondrosarcomas of the jaws and facial region are very rare tumors when compared with other bony tumors. It may show growth for several months or it may present as a rapidly growing tumor causing facial deformity, nasal obstruction, epistaxis, visual disturbances and teeth dislocation. Tumor radiologic evaluation must be done very carefully with conventional techniques, CT or M.R. Treatment must be surgical with wide an block excision. Treated patients should have a long-term follow up, because may recur, even after years.

A case with masseteric and temporal abscess formation is reported in which the use of CT-Scanning is demonstrated. We believe that CT is a valuable adjunct in confirmation of the presence of an abscess in the deep head and neck spaces and for CT guided aspiration of purulent material, in order to have the possibility of a culture prior to the drainage of the abscess.
