ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Major depressive disorder is related to unfavourable outcomes in patients with severe comorbidities. In transplant patients, major depression is associated with worse clinical outcomes. CASE REPORT: We present the case of a 55-year-old man with a heart transplant due to heart failure of ischaemic origin. Six months after the transplant he developed depressed mood, anhedonia and suicidal ideation with a score of 20/27 on the PHQ-9 depression screening scale. After receiving mirtazapine 30 mg/night for a week and persisting with a high suicide risk, it was decided to administer ketamine infusion for 24 h, with which a significant improvement in mood was observed, and the disappearance of suicidal ideation 24 h after the infusion. DISCUSSION: Depression in transplant patients is a factor associated with graft loss and post-transplant mortality, in addition to favouring other negative outcomes such as deep vein thrombosis. CONCLUSIONS: Ketamine infusion was shown to be an effective and safe option to treat major depression with suicidal risk in a heart transplant patient.

ABSTRACT

Since the term proteomics was coined by Marc Wilkins in 1994, there has been an explosion in the number of articles reporting the use of the proteomics technique. As the layers of biological organization and their regulation increase, the complexity of living beings increases. Thus, we go from the genome to tissues, cells, cellular compartments, and phenotypes and the complexity of the tools used to study this complexity also increases. Unlike the genome study, in the case of the proteome, we have a more complex panorama. We have a spatial and temporal proteome. Proteomics helps to answer complex biological questions since proteins' function depends on their molecular structure, subcellular localization, and posttranslational modifications. In this protocol, we describe a methodology to extract proteins using different methods, separating proteins by electrophoresis in double-dimensional gels and analyzing the gels using specialized software that allows obtaining information on the number and abundance of the proteins from the gels.

ABSTRACT

Omic tools have changed the way of doing research in experimental biology. The somatic embryogenesis (SE) study has not been immune to this benefit. The transcriptomic tools have been used to compare the genes expressed during the induction of SE with the genes expressed in zygotic embryogenesis or to compare the development of the different stages embryos go through. It has also been used to compare the expression of genes during the development of calli from which SE is induced, as well as many other applications. The protocol described here is employed in our laboratory to extract RNA and generate several transcriptomes for the study of SE on Coffea canephora.

ABSTRACT

Agrobacterium's journey has been a roller coaster, from being a pathogen to becoming a powerful biotechnological tool. While A. tumefaciens has provided the scientific community with a versatile tool for plant transformation, Agrobacterium rhizogenes has given researchers a Swiss army knife for developing many applications. These applications range from a methodology to regenerate plants, often recalcitrant, to establish bioremediation protocols to a valuable system to produce secondary metabolites. This chapter reviews its discovery, biology, controversies over its nomenclature, and some of the multiple applications developed using A. rhizogenes as a platform.

ABSTRACT

MAIN CONCLUSIONS: In contrast to Neltuma species, S. tamarugo exhibited higher stress tolerance, maintaining photosynthetic performance through enhanced gene expression and metabolites. Differentially accumulated metabolites include chlorophyll and carotenoids and accumulation of non-nitrogen osmoprotectants. Plant species have developed different adaptive strategies to live under extreme environmental conditions. Hypothetically, extremophyte species present a unique configuration of physiological functions that prioritize stress-tolerance mechanisms while carefully managing resource allocation for photosynthesis. This could be particularly challenging under a multi-stress environment, where the synthesis of multiple and sequential molecular mechanisms is induced. We explored this hypothesis in three phylogenetically related woody species co-occurring in the Atacama Desert, Strombocarpa tamarugo, Neltuma alba, and Neltuma chilensis, by analyzing their leaf dehydration and freezing tolerance and by characterizing their photosynthetic performance under natural growth conditions. Besides, the transcriptomic profiling, biochemical analyses of leaf pigments, and metabolite analysis by untargeted metabolomics were conducted to study gene expression and metabolomic landscape within this challenging multi-stress environment. S. tamarugo showed a higher photosynthetic capacity and leaf stress tolerance than the other species. In this species, a multifactorial response was observed, which involves high photochemical activity associated with a higher content of chlorophylls and ß-carotene. The oxidative damage of the photosynthetic apparatus is probably attenuated by the synthesis of complex antioxidant molecules in the three species, but S. tamarugo showed the highest antioxidant capacity. Comparative transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses among the species showed the differential expression of genes involved in the biosynthetic pathways of key stress-related metabolites. Moreover, the synthesis of non-nitrogen osmoprotectant molecules, such as ciceritol and mannitol in S. tamarugo, would allow the nitrogen allocation to support its high photosynthetic capacity without compromising leaf dehydration tolerance and freezing stress avoidance.

ABSTRACT

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common dermatological disease affecting both children and adults. No drug-free emulgel has been developed and studied in vitro and in vivo for the treatment of AD. The aim of this study was to develop and assess the efficacy of a topical emulgel containing hyaluronic acid, glycerol, Calendula officinalis, Aloe vera, polyphenols and EGF for the concomitant treatment in patients with AD aged over 14. Objective skin barrier function parameters were included, such as transepidermal water loss (TEWL), skin temperature, pH, stratum corneum hydration, skin elasticity and erythema. The subjective opinion of the patients was determined including acceptability, absorption, comfort of use and tolerability, as well as the degree of improvement in patients' quality of life. We observed an improvement in the subjective parameters studied and statistically significant differences in the objective parameters. Specifically, we found an improvement in TEWL (p = 0.006), erythema (p = 0.008) and hydration (p < 0.001), parameters indicating an improvement in the epidermal barrier. One hundred per cent of patients were satisfied with the product. Therefore, these results suggest that the product may contribute to the treatment of AD.

ABSTRACT

Plant growth regulators (PGR) are essential for somatic embryogenesis (SE) in different species, and Coffea canephora is no exception. In our study model, previously, we have been able to elucidate the participation of various genes involved in SE by using different strategies; however, until now, we have not used a proteomic approach. This research seeks to contribute to understanding the primary cellular pathways involved in developing SE in C. canephora. The process of our model consists of two stages: (1) preconditioning in MS medium with auxin (NAA) and cytokinin (KIN), and (2) induction in Yasuda liquid medium added with cytokinin (BA). Therefore, in this study, we analyzed different days of the SE induction process using shotgun label-free proteomics. An amount of 1630 proteins was found among different sampling days of the process, of which the majority were accumulated during the induction stage. We found that some of the most enriched pathways during this process were the biosynthesis of amino acids and secondary metabolites. Eighteen proteins were found related to auxin homeostasis and two to cytokinin metabolism, such as ABC, BIG, ILR, LOG, and ARR. Ten proteins and transcription factors related to SE were also identified, like SERK1, SKP1, nuclear transcription factor Y, MADS-box, and calreticulin, and 19 related to other processes of plant development, among which the 14-3-3 and PP2A proteins stand out. This is the first report on the proteomic approach to elucidate the mechanisms that operate during the induction of SE in C. canephora. So, our findings provide the groundwork for future, more in-depth research. Data are available via ProteomeXchange Consortium via the PRIDE partner repository with the dataset identifier PXD047172.

ABSTRACT

Somatic embryogenesis (SE) is an excellent example of mass plant propagation. Due to its genetic variability and low somaclonal variation, coffee SE has become a model for in vitro propagation of woody species, as well as for large-scale production of vigorous plants that are advantageous to modern agriculture. The success of the large-scale propagation of an embryogenic system is dependent on the development, optimization, and transfer of complementary system technologies. In this study, two successful SE systems were combined with a SETIS™ bioreactor immersion system to develop an efficient and cost-effective approach for the in vitro development of somatic embryos of Coffea spp. This study used an efficient protocol for obtaining somatic embryos, utilizing direct and indirect SE for both C. canephora and C. arabica. Embryos in the cotyledonary stage were deposited in a bioreactor to complete their stage of development from embryo to plant with minimal manipulation. Following ten weeks of cultivation in the bioreactor, complete and vigorous plants were obtained. Different parameters such as fresh weight, length, number of leaves, and root length, as well as stomatal index and relative water content, were recorded. In addition, the survival rate and ex vitro development of plantlets during acclimatization was assessed. The best substrate combination was garden soil (GS), peat moss (PM), and agrolite (A) in a 1:1:0.5 ratio, in which the bioreactor-regenerated plants showed an acclimatization rate greater than 90%. This is the first report on the use of SETIS™ bioreactors for the in vitro development of somatic embryos in Coffea spp., providing a technology that could be utilized for the commercial in vitro propagation of coffee plants. A link between research and innovation is necessary to establish means of communication that facilitate technology transfer. This protocol can serve as a basis for the generation and scaling of different species of agroeconomic importance. However, other bottlenecks in the production chains and the field must be addressed.

ABSTRACT

Auxins are responsible for a large part of the plant development process. To exert their action, they must move throughout the plant and from cell to cell, which is why plants have developed complex transport systems for indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). These transporters involve proteins that transport IAA into cells, transporters that move IAA to or from different organelles, mainly the endoplasmic reticulum, and transporters that move IAA out of the cell. This research determined that Persea americana has 12 PIN transporters in its genome. The twelve transporters are expressed during different stages of development in P. americana zygotic embryos. Using different bioinformatics tools, we determined the type of transporter of each of the P. americana PIN proteins and their structure and possible location in the cell. We also predict the potential phosphorylation sites for each of the twelve-PIN proteins. The data show the presence of highly conserved sites for phosphorylation and those sites involved in the interaction with the IAA.

Improving plant ability to acquire and efficiently utilize phosphorus (P) is a promising approach for developing sustainable pasture production. This study aimed to identify ryegrass cultivars with contrasting P use efficiency, and to assess their associated biochemical and molecular responses. Nine ryegrass cultivars were hydroponically grown under optimal (0.1 mM) or P-deficient (0.01 mM) conditions, and P uptake, dry biomass, phosphorus acquisition efficiency (PAE) and phosphorus utilization efficiency (PUE) were evaluated. Accordingly, two cultivars with high PAE but low PUE (Ansa and Stellar), and two cultivars with low PAE and high PUE (24Seven and Extreme) were selected to analyze the activity and gene expression of acid phosphatases (APases), as well as the transcript levels of P transporters. Our results showed that ryegrass cultivars with high PAE were mainly influenced by root-related responses, including the expression of genes codifying for the P transporter LpPHT1;4, purple acid phosphatase LpPAP1 and APase activity. Moreover, the traits that contributed greatly to enhanced PUE were the expression of LpPHT1;1/4 and LpPHO1;2, and the APase activity in shoots. These outcomes could be useful to evaluate and develop cultivars with high P-use efficiency, thus contributing to improve the management of P in grassland systems.

Cytokinins (CK) are plant growth regulators involved in multiple physiological processes in plants. One less studied aspect is CK homeostasis (HM). The primary genes related to HM are involved in biosynthesis (IPT), degradation (CKX), and signaling (ARR). This paper demonstrates the effect of auxin (Aux) and CK and their cross talk in a Coffea canephora embryogenic system. The transcriptome and RT-qPCR suggest that Aux in pre-treatment represses biosynthesis, degradation, and signal CK genes. However, in the induction, there is an increase of genes implicated in the CK perception/signal, indicating perhaps, as in other species, Aux is repressing CK, and CK are inducing per se genes involved in its HM. This is reflected in the endogenous concentration of CK; pharmacology experiments helped study the effect of each plant growth regulator in our SE system. We conclude that the Aux-CK balance is crucial to directing somatic embryogenesis in C. canephora.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to answer several questions related to the assessment and treatment of fever, as well as other controversies that exist during its management in pediatric patients. First, an advisory board with medical experts was conducted to discuss the clinical journey of these patients, considering the main challenges and possible solutions. After this discussion, a non-systematic literature review was performed, between November 2019 and January 2020, to collect the most relevant evidence available in the scientific databases MEDLINE, Lilacs, and SciELO. A narrative review was carried out based on scientific evidence and on extensive experience of experts in clinical practice. The experts developed a set of recommendations and clarifications about the assessment of the severity of fever in pediatrics, the need for treatment and the choice of the most appropriate antipyretic. The most common controversies in the management of fever in pediatric patients were also addressed, such as alternating antipyretics, persistent fever, and dose equivalence. In primary management of pediatric patients, fever should be seen as a relevant symptom that requires treatment with antipyretics in potentially more complex or severe cases, when it causes discomfort to children or is associated with infectious diseases.

Introducción. Entre el 80 y el 95 % de los pacientes infectados por el virus de inmunodeficiencia humana (HIV) desarrollan manifestaciones en la piel que sirven como marcadores de su estado inmunológico. Objetivos. Describir las manifestaciones dermatológicas y los factores clínicos y sociodemográficos de los pacientes hospitalizados con diagnóstico de HIV y su correlación con el recuento de linfocitos T CD4. Materiales y métodos. Se hizo un estudio observacional de corte transversal y retrospectivo a partir del registro de las historias clínicas de 227 pacientes mayores de edad con diagnóstico de HIV, evaluados por dermatología en un hospital de Medellín, Colombia. Resultados. Los 227 registros daban cuenta de 433 manifestaciones dermatológicas, el 64,4 % de ellas infecciosas. Las tres manifestaciones más frecuentes fueron candidiasis oral, condilomas acuminados y reacciones a medicamentos. Se encontró una relación estadísticamente significativa entre el virus del herpes zóster (HZ) diseminado y la sífilis secundaria, con un recuento de CD4 entre 200 y 499 células/mm3 (p=0,04 y 0,028, respectivamente), y entre la candidiasis oral y un recuento de CD4 menor de 100 células/ mm3 (p=0,008). Conclusiones. La relación entre el herpes zóster diseminado y un recuento de CD4 entre 200 y 499 células/mm3 sugiere que, a pesar de los recuentos altos, se pueden presentar formas graves de la enfermedad debido a una posible disfunción de las células T y el agotamiento del sistema inmunológico. La relación entre la candidiasis oral y un recuento de CD4 menor de 100 células/mm3 plantea la posibilidad de considerar esta infección micótica como un marcador importante de debilitamiento inmunológico de los pacientes con HIV.


Introduction. About 80-95% of patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) develop skin manifestations, which are markers of the patients' immune status. Objective. To describe the dermatologic manifestations and the clinical and sociodemographic factors of hospitalized patients diagnosed with HIV and their correlation with CD4 T-lymphocyte count. Materials and methods. We conducted an observational, cross-sectional, and retrospective study of the medical records of 227 adult patients with HIV diagnosis evaluated by dermatology in a hospital in Medellín, Colombia. Results. We included 227 patient records with 433 dermatologic manifestations, 64.4% of them infectious. The most frequent manifestations were oral candidiasis, condylomata acuminata, and drug reactions. Moreover, a statistically significant relationship was found between disseminated herpes zoster virus and secondary syphilis with a CD4 count between 200-499 cells/mm3 (p=0.04 and 0.028, respectively). There was also a statistically significant relationship between oral candidiasis and a CD4 count of less than 100 cells/ mm3 (p=0.008). Conclusions. The relationship between disseminated herpes zoster with CD4 between 200-499 cells/mm3 suggests that, despite having high CD4 counts, severe forms of the disease may occur due to possible T-cell dysfunction and depletion of the immune system. Additionally, the relationship between oral candidiasis and CD4 less than 100 cells/mm3 indicates the potential role of oral candidiasis as an essential marker of weakened immune status in HIV patients.

ABSTRACT

The need for more sustainable printed electronics has emerged in the past years. Due to this, the use of nanocellulose (NC) extracted from cellulose has recently been demonstrated to provide interesting materials such as functional inks and transparent flexible films due to its properties. Its high specific surface area together with the high content of reactive hydroxyl groups provide a highly tailorable surface chemistry with applications in ink formulations as a stabilizing, capping, binding and templating agent. Moreover, NC mechanical, physical and thermal properties (high strength, low porosity and high thermal stability, respectively) provide an excellent alternative for the currently used plastic films. In this work, we present a process for the production of water-based conductive inks that uses NC both as a template for silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) formation and as an ink additive for ink formulation. The new inks present an electrical conductivity up to 2 × 106 S/m, which is in the range of current commercially available conductive inks. Finally, the new Ag NP/NC-based conductive inks have been tested to fabricate NFC antennas by screen-printing onto NC-coated paper, demonstrating to be operative.

Salicylic acid (SA) has been shown to ameliorate drought stress. However, physiological and biochemical mechanisms involved in drought stress tolerance induced by SA in plants have not been well understood. Thus, this study aimed to study the role of SA application on enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants, photosynthetic performance, and plant growth in A. chilensis plants subjected to moderate drought stress. One-year-old A. chilensis plants were subjected to 100% and 60% of field capacity. When plants reached moderate drought stress (average of stem water potential of -1.0 MPa, considered as moderate drought stress), a single SA application was performed on plants. Then, physiological and biochemical features were determined at different times during 14 days. Our study showed that SA application increased 13.5% plant growth and recovered 41.9% AN and 40.7% gs in drought-stressed plants on day 3 compared to drought-stressed plants without SA application. Interestingly, SOD and APX activities were increased 85% and 60%, respectively, in drought-stressed SA-treated plants on day 3. Likewise, SA improved 30% total phenolic content and 60% antioxidant capacity in drought-stressed A. chilensis plants. Our study provides insight into the SA mechanism to tolerate moderate drought stress in A. chilensis plants.

Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Among the risk factors related to this disease, lifestyle and unhealthy diet have important relevance. In the present report, we describe the case of an indigenous villager who consumed processed foods, such as snacks, soft drinks, artificial juice and biscuits. Therefore, we were able to observe a transition in habits of the indigenous population with possible epidemiological repercussions.

Introducción: La hepatitis es una enfermedad inflamatoria que afecta al hígado. El virus de la hepatitis A produce un cuadro infeccioso agudo por lo general autolimitado en el ser humano, para el cual no existe tratamiento específico. Objetivo: Realizar una actualización acerca del comportamiento y manejo actual de la infección por el virus de la hepatitis A. Métodos: Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica durante septiembre y octubre de 2021, se consultaron 156 artículos en idioma inglés y español de bases de datos como SciELO, PubMed, LILACS y Medigraphic, de ellos se utilizaron 30 citas. Se empleó la combinación de términos y operadores booleanos y métodos teóricos como: análisis-síntesis, inducción-deducción e histórico-lógico. Resultados: Se abordó el comportamiento de la infección causada por el virus de la hepatitis A, se hizo hincapié en su epidemiología, características morfológicas y funcionales que permiten su infectividad, evolución y manifestaciones clínicas, complicaciones, tratamiento y perspectivas actuales. Conclusiones: El virus de la hepatitis A produce un cuadro infeccioso agudo. Se presenta tanto de forma esporádica como epidémica. Es la forma más común de hepatitis viral aguda. La transmisión es de persona a persona por vía fecal oral. Los síntomas relacionados con las hepatitis virales agudas son variables e inespecíficos. El diagnóstico de certeza se realiza mediante las pruebas serológicas y técnicas de biología molecular para la identificación del virus. No existe tratamiento específico para esta infección.


Introduction: Hepatitis is an inflammatory disease that affects the liver. The hepatitis A virus produces a generally self-limited acute infectious picture in humans, for which there is no specific treatment. Objective: To update on current behavior and management of hepatitis A virus infection. Methods: A bibliographic review was carried out during September and October 2021, consulting 156 articles in English and Spanish from databases such as SciELO, PubMed, Lilacs and Medigraphic, of which 30 citations were used. The combination of Boolean terms and operators and theoretical methods such as: analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and historical-logical was used. Results: The behavior of the infection caused by the hepatitis A virus was addressed, emphasizing its epidemiology, morphological and functional characteristics that allow its infectivity, evolution and clinical manifestations, complications, treatment and current perspectives. Conclusions: The hepatitis A virus produces an acute infectious picture. It occurs both sporadically and epidemically. It is the most common form of acute viral hepatitis. Transmission is person-to-person by the fecal oral route. Symptoms related to acute viral hepatitis are variable and nonspecific. The diagnosis of certainty is carried out by means of serological tests and molecular biology techniques for the identification of the virus. There is no specific treatment for this infection.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to answer several questions related to the assessment and treatment of fever, as well as other controversies that exist during its management in pediatric patients. First, an advisory board with medical experts was conducted to discuss the clinical journey of these patients, considering the main challenges and possible solutions. After this discussion, a non-systematic literature review was performed, between November 2019 and January 2020, to collect the most relevant evidence available in the scientific databases MEDLINE, Lilacs, and SciELO. A narrative review was carried out based on scientific evidence and on extensive experience of experts in clinical practice. The experts developed a set of recommendations and clarifications about the assessment of the severity of fever in pediatrics, the need for treatment and the choice of the most appropriate antipyretic. The most common controversies in the management of fever in pediatric patients were also addressed, such as alternating antipyretics, persistent fever, and dose equivalence. In primary management of pediatric patients, fever should be seen as a relevant symptom that requires treatment with antipyretics in potentially more complex or severe cases, when it causes discomfort to children or is associated with infectious diseases.

RESUMEN Introducción: Las hepatitis virales son un problema de salud a nivel mundial, provocan elevada mortalidad y morbilidad. A pesar de los avances en la prevención, diagnóstico y tratamiento de la hepatitis B, esta enfermedad es todavía preocupación de las autoridades sanitarias. Objetivo: Realizar una actualización acerca del comportamiento y manejo actual de la infección por el virus de la hepatitis B. Métodos: Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica durante abril y mayo de 2021, se consultaron 211 artículos en idioma inglés y español en las bases de datos como SciELO, PubMed, Lilacs y Medigraphic, de ellos se utilizaron 30 citas. Se empleó la combinación de términos y operadores booleanos y métodos teóricos como: análisis-síntesis, inducción-deducción e histórico-lógico. Resultados: Se abordó el comportamiento de la infección causada por el virus de la hepatitis B, se hizo hincapié en su epidemiología, características morfológicas y funcionales que permiten su infectividad, evolución y manifestaciones clínicas, complicaciones, tratamiento y perspectivas actuales. Conclusiones: La historia natural de la infección es dinámica y las manifestaciones clínicas dependen de diversos factores. La infección por el virus de la hepatitis B puede causar complicaciones como: la cirrosis hepática y el carcinoma hepatocelular y su principal vía de transmisión es la parenteral. El diagnóstico se realiza a través de técnicas serológicas. Es imprescindible la atención diferenciada a los grupos con riesgo y, aunque se cuenta con una vacuna eficaz, aún existen casos y se han desarrollado tratamientos con resultados positivos.


ABSTRACT Introduction: Viral hepatitis is a global health problem, causing high mortality and morbidity. Despite advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis B, this disease is still a concern of health authorities. Objective: Toupdate on current behavior and management of hepatitis B virus infection. Methods: A bibliographic review was carried out during April and May 2021, consulting 211 articles in English and Spanish from databases such as SciELO, PubMed, Lilacs and Medigraphic, of which 30 citations were used. The combination of Boolean terms and operators and theoretical methods such as: analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and historical-logical were used. Results: The behavior of the infection caused by the hepatitis B virus was addressed, emphasizing its epidemiology, morphological and functional characteristics that allow its infectivity, evolution and clinical manifestations, complications, treatment and current perspectives. Conclusions: The natural history of infection is dynamic, and clinical manifestations depend on various factors. Hepatitis B virus infection can cause complications such as liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, and its main route of transmission is parenterally. The diagnosis is made mainly through serological techniques. Differentiated care for groups at risk is essential and, although there is an effective vaccine, there are still cases and treatments have been developed with positive results.

ABSTRACT

The disease, which originated from the SARS-CoV-2 virus, is primarily transmitted by direct contact with infected individuals. Visual healthcare professionals perform clinical practices that pose a significant risk of infection due to their proximity with patients during the examination. This systematic review aims to identify preventive measures that will aid in reducing the risk of infection during standard appointments between patients and visual health professionals. A systematic review was done for articles published in indexed journals from December 2019 to December 2020. The search for these articles was done in 3 electronic databases. As part of the search criteria, articles were selected if they had the keywords (SARS-CoV-2), (COVID-19), and coronavirus combined with ophthalmology, optometry, eye care, and the eye. Once duplicated and unrelated items were eliminated, 36 articles of interest were selected. Seven sections were described in detail: telephone screening, (COVID-19) triage, decreasing transmission within shared spaces, hand washing, use of personal protective equipment Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), cleaning of diagnostic instruments, and use of telemedicine. This paper helps healthcare professionals to better understand the context of the "new normal" clinical practice. Visual health professionals and their patients must adhere to norms and use the indicated PPE during the consultation to safeguard each other.
