ABSTRACT

The transcription factor Hif-1α regulates epithelial to mesenchymal transition and neural crest cell chemotaxis in Xenopus. Hif-1α is only stabilised under low oxygen levels, and the in vivo stabilisation of this factor in neural crest cells is poorly understood. Multiple oxygen-independent Hif-1α regulators have been described in cell cultures and cancer models. Among these, the PDGF pathway has been linked to neural crest development. The present study established a connection between the Pdgf pathway and Hif-1α stabilisation in zebrafish. Specifically, embryos with a disrupted Pdgf pathway were rescued by employing hif-1α mRNA through qPCR and immunohistochemistry techniques. The data suggest that oxygen levels in the neural crest are normal and that Pdgf1aa regulates neural crest migration through Hif-1α expression.

ABSTRACT

This work studies the adsorption of colored compounds in cane juice using a food-grade macroporous adsorber resin without functional groups. The adsorption equilibrium was studied through the adsorption isotherms at 30, 40, and 50 ℃. The absorbance at 420 nm was used to measure the concentration of colored compounds, which enables correlation of the residual concentration with the adsorbed concentration. Furthermore, the efficiency of the adsorption process was studied, from which it was observed that there was an improvement in efficiency with increasing resin content, while the increase in temperature was less important in the process. The kinetic study was performed using the Ibarz model and intraparticle diffusion model, which correctly account for the kinetics of the adsorption process. The adsorption kinetic constant was always greater than the desorption kinetic constant, indicating that the adsorption step predominates over the desorption step.

ABSTRACT

We report a case of incarcerated crural hernia including omentum with metastases of pancreatic carcinoma. The scarce literature is reviewed. The possibility of mistaking an incarcerated crural hernia for an inguinal lymph node may result in a ganglionar biopsy ending up in a crural herniography under local anaesthesia. We recommend that all hernial sacs be examined, especially those of adult patients and, in such cases, a crural herniography with prolene should be made in view of its remarkably technical simplicity.
