ABSTRACT
Se realizó un estudio descriptivo en el Hospital Pediátrico Docente Raymundo Castro, del municipio de Puerto Padre, Las Tunas, en el periodo comprendido de enero a diciembre del año 2012, con el objetivo de caracterizar la neumonía en la edad pediátrica. El universo estuvo constituido por 219 pacientes que ingresaron al hospital con ese diagnóstico durante este período, coincidiendo con la muestra. Se evaluaron las variables de edad, principales factores asociados al huésped, complicaciones y acciones de enfermería aplicada. Los resultados obtenidos mostraron que el grupo de edad más afectado fue el de cuatro a once meses y el principal factor asociado relacionado con el huésped fue el abandono de la lactancia materna. El por ciento de complicaciones fue bajo, siendo la sepsis la más frecuente; el proceso de atención de enfermería fue adecuado (AU)
A descriptive study was carried out from January to December, 2012 in Raymundo Castro Pediatric Hospital, Puerto Padre, with the objective to characterize pneumonia in the pediatric age. The universe, as well as the sample, included 219 patients who were diagnosed and admitted to the hospital during that period. The variables of age, main factors associated to the host, complications, and applied nursing care actions were evaluated. The results obtained showed that the most affected age group was from 4 to 11 months, and the main associated factor related to the host was the interrupted breastfeeding. The complication percentage was low, being sepsis the most frequent one; the nursing care process was adequate (AU)
