ABSTRACT

Positive serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-HCG) in reproductive-age women generally indicates a pregnancy in healthy women. Nevertheless, this result can also be associated to other different etiologies that every gynecologist must know. A case report of a 41-year-old woman who had an elevated beta-HCG serum level without pregnancy is presented, which turned out to be the first sign of lung cancer.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo. Estudiar la posibilidad de inducir endometriosis interna/externa en rata wistar, a través de un nuevo modelo microquirúrgico, que denominamos PGR 1. Sujetos y métodos. Se han utilizado 11 ratas Wistar, a las que se ha realizado un autotransplante de fragmento uterino, sobre la cicatriz resultante de la cirugía necesaria para su obtención. Después de 8 semanas se les practicó una nueva intervención, para la inspección de la cavidad abdominal y la toma de muestras relevantes para su estudio anatomopatológico. Resultados. Macroscópicos: adherencias que afectaban fundamentalmente a la zona del implante; vesículas amarillentas. Microscópicos: vesículas/quistes; fenómenos inflamatorios; neovascularización; endometriosis interna en un animal. Conclusiones. Este nuevo modelo de implante nos puede ayudar a comprender mejor los mecanismos involucrados en la aparición de endometriosis, tanto interna como externa (AU)


Objective. To study the possibility of inducing internal or external endometriosis in Wistar rats through a new microsurgical model known as PGR 1. Subjects and methods. Eleven Wistar rats underwent autologous transplantation of a uterine fragment over a deliberately created scar. After 8 weeks, a further intervention was carried out to inspect the abdominal cavity and take samples for pathological analysis. Results. Macroscopic results consisted of adhesions mainly affecting the implant and yellow vesicles. Microscopic findings consisted of vesicles/cysts, inflammatory phenomena, neovascularization, and internal endometriosis in one animal. Conclusions. This new implant model could enhance our understanding of the mechanisms involved in the development of endometriosis, both internal and external (AU)

ABSTRACT

Dentro de un proyecto de investigación aprobado por la comisión ética asesora para la investigación animal de la Universidad de Zaragoza, en un plazo inicial de 3 años, se procederá a la enseñanza de la cirugía laparoscópica usando para ese fin ratas, conejas y cerdas. Se quiere comenzar un aprendizaje por «pasos», que serían en realidad niveles de complejidad quirúrgica laparoscópica progresiva, utilizando para ello animales como la rata y la coneja, antes de llegar a la cerda. En este trabajo describimos cómo realizar una histerectomía total con anexectomía bilateral y extracción de útero y anejos por vagina en una coneja, usando para este fin una cirugía laparoscópica. Las intervenciones se llevaron a cabo en la unidad mixta de investigación dependiente de la Universidad de Zaragoza y del Hospital Clínico Universitario Lozano Blesa de Zaragoza (AU)


A laparoscopic surgery teaching program is ready to begin at the Gynecology Department of the Lozano Blesa University Hospital. This program has been approved by the Ethics Committee for Animal Research of the Zaragoza University and will use rats, female rabbits and sows. This project aims to follow a «a step by step» process, with progressive surgery complexity from the rat and rabbit models to more difficult surgery in sows. The present article describes how to perform total hysterectomy with double annexectomy using vaginal extraction of uterus, tubes and ovaries in the female rabbit through the laparoscopic approach. All surgery will be conducted in the Mixed Research Unit of Zaragoza University and the Lozano Blesa University Hospital (AU)
