ABSTRACT

AIM: To analyze ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) images using random forest network to find new features to make predictions about vault after implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation. METHODS: A total of 450 UBM images were collected from the Lixiang Eye Hospital to provide the patient's preoperative parameters as well as the vault of the ICL after implantation. The vault was set as the prediction target, and the input elements were mainly ciliary sulcus shape parameters, which included 6 angular parameters, 2 area parameters, and 2 parameters, distance between ciliary sulci, and anterior chamber height. A random forest regression model was applied to predict the vault, with the number of base estimators (n_estimators) of 2000, the maximum tree depth (max_depth) of 17, the number of tree features (max_features) of Auto, and the random state (random_state) of 40.0. RESULTS: Among the parameters selected in this study, the distance between ciliary sulci had a greater importance proportion, reaching 52% before parameter optimization is performed, and other features had less influence, with an importance proportion of about 5%. The importance of the distance between the ciliary sulci increased to 53% after parameter optimization, and the importance of angle 3 and area 1 increased to 5% and 8% respectively, while the importance of the other parameters remained unchanged, and the distance between the ciliary sulci was considered the most important feature. Other features, although they accounted for a relatively small proportion, also had an impact on the vault prediction. After parameter optimization, the best prediction results were obtained, with a predicted mean value of 763.688 µm and an actual mean value of 776.9304 µm. The R2 was 0.4456 and the root mean square error was 201.5166. CONCLUSION: A study based on UBM images using random forest network can be performed for prediction of the vault after ICL implantation and can provide some reference for ICL size selection.

ABSTRACT

This study took a consumer sensory perspective to investigate the relationship between taste components and consumers' preferences and emotions. Abdomen meat (M), hepatopancreas (H), and gonads (G) of Chinese mitten crabs, one from Chongming, the Jianghai 21 variety (C-JH), and two from Taixing, the Jianghai 21 (T-JH) and Yangtze II varieties (T-CJ), were used to evaluate flavor quality. The results indicated that in the abdomen meat, differences in taste components were mainly shown in the content of sweet amino acids, bitter amino acids, K+, and Ca2+; M-C-JH had the highest EUC value of 9.01 g/100 g. In the hepatopancreas, bitter amino acids were all significantly higher in H-C-JH (569.52 mg/100 g) than in the other groups (p < 0.05). In the gonads, the umami amino acid content was significantly higher in G-T-JH than in the other groups (p < 0.05) (EUC values: G-T-JH > G-C-JH > G-T-CJ). Consumer sensory responses showed that different edible parts of the crab evoked different emotions, with crab meat being closely associated with positive emotions and more complex emotional expressions for the hepatopancreas and gonads. In comparison, consumers were more emotionally positive when consuming Yangtze II crab. H-C-JH evoked negative emotions due to high bitter taste intensities. Multifactor analysis (MFA) showed arginine, alanine, glycine, proline, K+, and Ca2+ were found to have a positive correlation with consumer preference; an artificial neural network model with three neurons was built with good correlation (R2 = 0.98). This study can provide a theoretical foundation for the breeding of Chinese mitten crabs, new insights into the river crab industry, and the consumer market.

ABSTRACT

To investigate the taste quality of gonads of Eriocheir sinensis during frozen storage, the difference in overall taste profile was determined by electronic tongue, and the contents of free amino acids and 5'-Nucleotides were measure. The results showed that the overall taste profile of samples during frozen storage could be effectively distinguished. The contents of free amino acids and 5'-Nucleotides increased with the extension of frozen storage time. The content of water-soluble substances stored at -20 ℃ was higher than those of stored at -40 and -80 ℃. In addition, taste was evaluated by equivalent umami concentrention (EUC) and taste active value (TAV). The sensory evaluation results indicated that with the extension of frozen storage time, umami, sweetness and saltiness decreased, while bitterness increased, which was inconsistent with the previous experimental results. Sensory verification experiments were carried out to prove that bitterness could inhibit umami, sweetness and saltiness. Fuzzy logic model was used to classify the taste of gonads during frozen storage, with Hypoxanthine (Hx), Lysine (Lys) and Histidine (His) as input variables and twelve flavor grades as output variables. Finally, taste was evaluated using the designed model. When the gonads were stored at -20, -40 and -80 °C, the Pearson correlation coefficients between storage time and the taste grade of gonads were 0.98, 0.99 and 0.99, respectively.

ABSTRACT

Speckle noise is ubiquitous in the optical coherence tomography (OCT) image of the anterior segment, which greatly affects the image quality and destroys the relevant structural information. In order to reduce the influence of speckle noise in OCT images, a denoising algorithm based on a convolutional neural network is proposed in this paper. Unlike traditional algorithms that directly obtain denoised images, the algorithm model proposed in this paper learns the speckle noise distribution through the constructed trainable OCT dataset and indirectly obtains the denoised result image. In order to verify the performance of the model, we compare the denoising results of the algorithm proposed in this paper with several state-of-the-art algorithms from three perspectives: qualitative evaluation from the subjective visual perspective, quantitative evaluation from objective parameter indicators, and running time. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has a good denoising effect on different OCT images of the anterior segment and has good generalization ability. Besides, it retains the relevant details and texture information in the image, and it has strong edge preserving ability. The image of OCT speckle removal can be obtained within 0.4 s, which meets the time limit requirement of clinical application.

ABSTRACT

In this study, we develop an alternating current (AC)-induced electro-epoxidation reaction and incorporate it into nanoelectrospray ionization for locating carbon-carbon double-bonds in positively and negatively charged forms of lipids simultaneously. An AC voltage plays multiple roles in this method, including initiation of the electro-epoxidation of carbon-carbon double-bonds in both charged states of lipids and protonation/deprotonation of lipids for detection in both ion modes. Moreover, the rapid switch between native lipids and their electro-epoxidation products can be achieved at different AC voltages. The efficacy of the present method was demonstrated in mixtures of lipid standards and in a biological polar lipid extract. The advantages of simultaneous detection of negatively and positively charged unsaturated lipids, the low sample consumption, and on-demand electro-epoxidation should allow its wide applications in lipid-related research.

ABSTRACT

Most acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) resin is plagued by an unpleasant odor attributed to the high residual volatile organic compound (VOC) content. This paper primarily aimed to solve the odor issue of ABS resin by effectively reducing the VOC content. To that end, a synthesis of ABS resins was optimized through a supercritical extraction process while evaluating multiple novel chain transfer agents (linear dimer of α-methyl-styrene, methyl 3-mercaptopropionate, and dodecyl mercaptan). ABS resin obtained through a α-methyl-styrene chain transfer agent demonstrated the lowest odor. Moreover, it had the least amount of VOC content which was three times lower than when dodecyl mercaptan was employed. To improve the supercritical extraction process, an orthogonal test was designed to optimize four main process parameters: extrusion temperature, residence time, vacuum degree and extractant dosage. The most optimal conditions were found to be 250 °C extrusion temperature, one minute residence time, vacuum degree of minus 99 KPa, and 1.5% CO2 extractant dosage.

ABSTRACT

In Klebsiella pneumoniae CG43S3, deletion of the response regulator gene rcsB reduced the capsular polysaccharide amount and survival on exposure to acid stress. A comparison of the pH 4.4-induced proteomes between CG43S3 and CG43S3ΔrcsB revealed numerous differentially expressed proteins and one of them, YfdX, which has recently been reported as a periplasmic protein, was absent in CG43S3ΔrcsB. Acid survival analysis was then conducted to determine its role in the acid stress response. Deletion of yfdX increased the sensitivity of K. pneumoniae CG43S3 to a pH of 2.5, and transforming the mutant with a plasmid carrying yfdX restored the acid resistance (AR) levels. In addition, the effect of yfdX deletion was cross-complemented by the expression of the periplasmic chaperone HdeA. Furthermore, the purified recombinant protein YfdX reduced the acid-induced protein aggregation, suggesting that YfdX as well as HdeA functions as a chaperone. The following promoter activity measurement revealed that rcsB deletion reduced the expression of yfdX after the bacteria were subjected to pH 4.4 adaptation. Western blot analysis also revealed that YfdX production was inhibited by rcsB deletion and only the plasmid expressing RcsB or the nonphosphorylated form of RcsB, RcsBD56A, could restore the YfdX production, and the RcsB-mediated complementation was no longer observed when the sensor kinase RcsD gene was deleted. In conclusion, this is the first study demonstrating that YfdX may be involved in the acid stress response as a periplasmic chaperone and that RcsB positively regulates the acid stress response partly through activation of yfdX expression. Moreover, the phosphorylation status of RcsB may affect the YfdX expression under acidic conditions.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the treatment effects of chop hook-assisted phacoemulsification surgery in patients with crystalline lens dislocation. Methods Thirty-seven eyes with cataracts and crystalline lens dislocations underwent cataract surgery. An L-shaped chop hook was introduced into the anterior chamber, and the tip was pushed or pulled to the centre of the anterior capsular edge of the zonular dialysis during the cataract operation. Postoperative follow-up was conducted for ≥ 1 month. Results All patients' postoperative visual abilities improved except one patient with glaucoma. One patient who underwent -5D intraocular lens implantation exhibited vision of 1/50. Visual acuity was less than 6/20 in 6 eyes, 6/20 to 10/20 in 7 eyes, and greater than 10/20 in 22 eyes. Conclusions L-shaped chop hooks can be used to push or pull the anterior capsular edge of the zonular dialysis for protection and avoidance of further zonular damage. This strategy provides satisfactory effects and reduces use of additional instruments.

ABSTRACT

A child suffering from traumatic cataract and corneal astigmatism of 2.14 D had a phacoemulsification operation and implantation of a ReSTOR Toric intraocular lens (IOL) to correct the astigmatism. The primary outcome measurements were the uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected near vision at 40 cm, intraocular pressure, spherical equivalent refraction, residual astigmatism, corneal astigmatism, presence of unusual optical phenomena, and use of spectacles. At 7 months postoperatively, UDVA was maintained between 16/20 and 24/20, near vision was between J1 and J3, residual spherical refraction was 0-0.37 D, and residual refractive cylinder was between 0 and 0.67 D. A multifocal toric IOL can provide the possibility of satisfactory vision for both distant and near conditions without the use of spectacles to meet children's needs when studying and doing sports. Additionally, binocular vision can be reconstructed. This intervention, therefore, seems to be a satisfactory alternative.
