ABSTRACT

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Manlyman Spray combined with biofeedback therapy in the treatment of premature ejaculation (PE).Methods: A total of 60 primary premature ejaculation patients with stable sexual partners and regular sexual activity (≥1 times per week) from April 2021 to October 2022 were involved in the clinical observation, The patients' age is (34.3 ± 4.9) years old, and the course of the disease is (112.5 ± 65.5) months, and Manlyman Spray combined with biofeedback therapy was used to treat patients for 8 weeks. Manlyman Spray was sprayed 3 times on the surface of the penisqd for 4 weeks, and Biofeedback therapy is treated twice a week according to the AI setting module, for a total of 8 weeks. Before and 8 weeks after medication and at 4 weeks after drug withdrawal, the Intravaginal Ejaculation Latency Time (IELT), Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT) scores and Clinical Global Impression of Change (CGIC) scores were Obtained and compared. Results: After 8 weeks of treatment, the IELT of the patients was significantly prolonged (ï¼»351.4 ± 76.7ï¼½ vs ï¼»87 ± 16.8ï¼½,P<0.05) and at 4 weeks after drug withdrawal, the therapeutic effect still existed (ï¼»345.9 ± 80.3ï¼½ vs ï¼»87 ± 16.8ï¼½,P<0.05), the PEDT scores were significantly improved after treatment (ï¼»18.2 ± 1.1ï¼½ vs ï¼»9.0 ± 1.4ï¼½,P<0.05)and at 4 weeks after drug withdrawal(ï¼»18.0 ± 1.2ï¼½ vs ï¼»9.0 ± 1.4ï¼½,P<0.05), and so were the CGIC scores (ï¼»13.4 ± 1.3ï¼½ vs ï¼»3.3 ± 1.4ï¼½,P<0.05, and ï¼»12.6 ± 1.6ï¼½ vs ï¼»3.3 ± 1.4ï¼½,P<0.05). Conclusion: The combination of Manlyman Spray and biofeedback therapy can effectively treat primary premature ejaculation, with a long duration of treatment and good safety, and the specific mechanism needs further study.

ABSTRACT

The controllable preparation of ligand-protected clusters is still an unresolved problem, which may be due to that their formation mechanism is unclear. We propose that the ligand is the key to solve the above problems. Here, by using p-, m-, and o-methylbenzenethiol ligand protected gold clusters as examples, we try to explore the effect of ligand structures on ligand-protected gold clusters. The geometrical structures, relative stabilities and surface properties of small-sized ligand-protected gold clusters [Au-SR]1-8 (SR = p-/m-/o-MBT) have been systematically studied based on the density functional theory. The results show that the ground state structures of [Au-SR]1-8 clusters tend to form closed rings except for [Au-SR]1,2. The different structures of ligand have significant effect on the structures and stabilities of ligand-protected clusters. By analyzing their surface properties and possible growth patterns, it is found that [Au-SR]1,2 clusters serve as the basic building blocks, and the larger clusters can be regarded as the combinations of them. This study provides some insights into the effect of ligands on ligand-protected clusters, which is useful for understanding the formation mechanism of ligand-protected clusters.

ABSTRACT

5-Methylcytosine (mC) is an epigenetic mark that impacts transcription, development, diseases including cancer and aging. The demethylation process involves Tet-mediated stepwise oxidation of mC to hmC, fC, or caC, excision of fC or caC by thymine-DNA glycosylase (TDG), and subsequent base excision repair. Thymine-DNA glycosylase (TDG) belongs to uracil-DNA glycosylase (UDG) superfamily, which is a group of enzymes that are initially found to be responsible for excising the deaminated bases from DNA and generating apurinic/apyrimidinic (AP) sites. mC oxidative derivatives may also be generated from Fenton chemistry and γ-irradiation. In screening DNA glycosylase activity in UDG superfamily, we identified new activity on fC- and caC-containing DNA in family 2 MUG/TDG and family 6 HDG enzymes. Surprisingly, we found a glycosylase SMUG2 from bacterium Pedobacter heparinus (Phe), a subfamily of family 3 SMUG1 DNA glycosylase, displayed catalytic activity towards not only DNA containing uracil, but also fC and caC. Given the sequence and structural differences between the family 3 and other family enzymes, we investigated the catalytic mechanism using mutational, enzyme kinetics and molecular modeling approaches. Mutational analysis and kinetics measurements identified I62, N63 and F76 of motif 1, and H205 of motif 2 in Phe SMUG2 as important catalytic residues, of which H205 of motif 2 played a critical role in catalyzing the removal of fC and caC. A catalytic model underlying the roles of these residues was proposed. The structural and catalytic differences between Phe SMUG2 and human TDG were compared by molecular modeling and molecular dynamics simulations. This study expands our understanding of DNA glycosylase capacity in UDG superfamily and provides insights into the molecular mechanism of fC and caC excision in Phe SMUG2.

ABSTRACT

Using density functional theory and semiclassical Boltzmann transport equation, the lattice thermal conductivity and electronic transport performance of monolayer SnI2 were systematically investigated. The results show that its room temperature lattice thermal conductivities along the zigzag and armchair directions are as low as 0.33 and 0.19 W/mK, respectively. This is attributed to the strong anharmonicity, softened acoustic modes, and weak bonding interactions. Such values of the lattice thermal conductivity are lower than those of other famous two-dimensional thermoelectric materials such as MoO3, SnSe, and KAgSe. The two quasi-degenerate band valleys for the valence band maximum make it a p-type thermoelectric material. Due to its ultralow lattice thermal conductivities, coupled with an ultrahigh Seebeck coefficient, monolayer SnI2 possesses an ultrahigh figure of merits at 800 K, approaching 4.01 and 3.34 along the armchair and zigzag directions, respectively. The results indicate that monolayer SnI2 is a promising low-dimensional thermoelectric system, and would stimulate further theoretical and experimental investigations of metal halides as thermoelectric materials.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To explore the optimal maintenance dose of caffeine citrate for preterm infants requiring assisted ventilation and caffeine citrate treatment. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on the medical data of 566 preterm infants (gestational age ≤34 weeks) who were treated and required assisted ventilation and caffeine citrate treatment in the neonatal intensive care unit of 30 tertiary hospitals in Jiangsu Province of China between January 1 and December 31, 2019. The 405 preterm infants receiving high-dose (10 mg/kg per day) caffeine citrate after a loading dose of 20 mg/kg within 24 hours after birth were enrolled as the high-dose group. The 161 preterm infants receiving low-dose (5 mg/kg per day) caffeine citrate were enrolled as the low-dose group. RESULTS: Compared with the low-dose group, the high-dose group had significant reductions in the need for high-concentration oxygen during assisted ventilation (P=0.044), the duration of oxygen inhalation after weaning from noninvasive ventilation (P<0.01), total oxygen inhalation time during hospitalization (P<0.01), the proportion of preterm infants requiring noninvasive ventilation again (P<0.01), the rate of use of pulmonary surfactant and budesonide (P<0.05), and the incidence rates of apnea and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (P<0.01), but the high-dose group had a significantly increased incidence rate of feeding intolerance (P=0.032). There were no significant differences between the two groups in the body weight change, the incidence rates of retinopathy of prematurity, intraventricular hemorrhage or necrotizing enterocolitis, the mortality rate, and the duration of caffeine use (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: This pilot multicenter study shows that the high maintenance dose (10 mg/kg per day) is generally beneficial to preterm infants in China and does not increase the incidence rate of common adverse reactions. For the risk of feeding intolerance, further research is needed to eliminate the interference of confounding factors as far as possible.

ABSTRACT

This paper proposes a concept of soil shear strength exertion around an anchorage section to analyze and calculate the anchor's force and displacement. First, based on the Mohr stress circle, the numerical relationship between the value of the internal friction angle exertion, the value of the cohesion exertion, and the displacement are established under the non-limit active state. According to the interaction mechanism between the anchorage section and the surrounding soil, this paper obtains the corresponding relationship between the value of the soil's shear strength exertion and displacement under the non-limit active state. Then, according to the load transfer principle of the anchorage section, the basic differential equation is established. The differential equation of the relative displacement distribution along the length of the anchorage section under the non-limit active state is further derived. And the calculation and analysis formula of the shear stress and relative displacement in the anchorage section considering the process of the soil shear strength exertion is also obtained. Finally, this paper compares the calculation method with the hyperbolic model calculation method for the same example. The results verify the accuracy of the calculation method.

ABSTRACT

Neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS) is a common disease that occurs in premature infants. However, the mechanisms underlying the disease remain unclear. microRNAs (miRNAs) have been indicated to play a crucial role in the development of NRDS. In this study, we aimed to explore the regulatory mechanisms of miR-296-5p in NRDS. The expression levels of miR-296-5p in preterm infants with NRDS were determined using quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). A549 cells were transfected with lentiviral vectors encoding miR-296-5p, and the transfection efficiency was determined using RT-qPCR. Flow cytometry and CCK8 assay were performed to measure apoptosis and proliferation of A549 cells, respectively. The protein levels of pulmonary surfactant SP-A (SFTPA1), SP-B, Wnt7b, and ß-catenin were measured using western blotting. We demonstrated an upregulation of miR-296-5p in NRDS. The miR-296-5p was successfully overexpressed in A549 cells via lentivirus transfection, and the upregulation of miR-296-5p inhibited cell proliferation and secretion of SP-A and SP-B and also induced downregulation of the Wnt7b/ß-catenin in vitro. Therefore, miR-296-5p inhibits cell proliferation and secretion of pulmonary surfactants in A549 cells via downregulation of Wnt7b/ß-catenin signaling.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: The role of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) as the main docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in Alzheimer's disease (AD) remains controversial. Our study aimed to provide detailed information about the role of endogenous n-3 PUFAs in AD. METHODS: Here, we generated a fat-1/tau transgenic mouse AD model by crossing female tau mice with male fat-1 mice to exclude confounding variables associated with the benefit of a DHA diet in these AD mice models. PUFAs presented in these AD models were detected by gas chromatography, and the role of endogenous n-3 PUFAs was assessed by lifespan survival assay, behavioral, pathologic, and molecular biology testing as well as imaging of cerebral vasculature. RESULTS: Endogenous n-3 PUFAs were shown to improve the memory and learning ability of AD mice. One possible reason for this improvement is the reduced formation of neurotrophic factors (NFTs) and Aß amyloid plaques which usually damage hippocampal neurons. Additionally, endogenous n-3 PUFAs were demonstrated to protect cerebral vascular of AD mice, thereby increasing brain metabolism. Besides, endogenous n-3 PUFAs were observed to extend of the overall survival of tau mouse models. CONCLUSION: Endogenous n-3 PUFAs delayed the onset of Alzheimer's disease caused by tau protein dysfunction, alleviating related symptoms and significantly prolonging survival in vivo.

Objective This study was performed to examine serum microRNA-375 (miR-375) expression in patients with osteosarcoma and determine its diagnostic and prognostic value. Methods Serum samples were obtained from 95 patients with osteosarcoma and 95 healthy individuals. miR-375 expression was detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction. The associations of serum miR-375 expression with the patients' clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis were then evaluated. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to obtain the potential value of serum miR-375 as a biomarker for osteosarcoma diagnosis and chemosensitivity prediction. Results Serum miR-375 expression was significantly lower in patients with osteosarcoma than in healthy individuals. Low serum miR-375 levels were associated with advanced clinical stages, large tumor size, positive distant metastasis, and poor tumor response to preoperative chemotherapy. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis illustrated that serum miR-375 could distinguish patients with osteosarcoma from healthy individuals and distinguish patients with a good pathologic response from those with a poor response. Multivariate analysis confirmed low serum miR-375 expression as a statistically significant independent unfavorable prognostic factor. Conclusions Serum miR-375 expression was downregulated in patients with osteosarcoma and might serve as a biomarker for its diagnosis, prognosis, and chemosensitivity prediction.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels at birth and respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in preterm infants. METHODS: This retrospective study recruited preterm infants with gestational age of below 34 weeks who were born between January 2014 and December 2016. These preterm infants were divided into two groups: RDS (n=72) and control (n=40). Clinical data of the two groups were collected, including gestational age, birth weight, gender, delivery mode, Apgar scores at 1 minute and 5 minutes, incidence of maternal gestational diabetes mellitus, and use of prenatal steroid hormone. Peripheral blood samples were collected and 25(OH)D levels were measured by chemiluminescence immunoassay. The association between serum 25(OH)D levels at birth and RDS was analyzed by multivariate logistic regression. RESULTS: Apgar scores at 1 minute and 5 minutes and serum 25(OH)D levels in the RDS group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05), while the rates of neonatal asphyxia and vitamin D deficiency were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that neonatal asphyxia (OR=2.633, 95%CI: 1.139-6.085) and vitamin D deficiency (OR=4.064, 95%CI: 1.625-10.165) were risk factors for RDS in preterm infants. CONCLUSIONS: Vitamin D deficiency might be associated with increased risk of RDS in preterm infants. Reasonable vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy might reduce the incidence of RDS in preterm infants.

ABSTRACT

The uracil DNA glycosylase superfamily consists of at least six families with a diverse specificity toward DNA base damage. Family 1 uracil N-glycosylase (UNG) exhibits exclusive specificity on uracil-containing DNA. Here, we report a family 1 UNG homolog from Nitratifractor salsuginis with distinct biochemical features that differentiate it from conventional family 1 UNGs. Globally, the crystal structure of N. salsuginisUNG shows a few additional secondary structural elements. Biochemical and enzyme kinetic analysis, coupled with structural determination, molecular modeling, and molecular dynamics simulations, shows that N. salsuginisUNG contains a salt bridge network that plays an important role in DNA backbone interactions. Disruption of the amino acid residues involved in the salt bridges greatly impedes the enzymatic activity. A tyrosine residue in motif 1 (GQDPY) is one of the distinct sequence features setting family 1 UNG apart from other families. The crystal structure of Y81G mutant indicates that several subtle changes may account for its inactivity. Unlike the conventional family 1 UNG enzymes, N. salsuginisUNG is not inhibited by Ugi, a potent inhibitor specific for family 1 UNG. This study underscores the diversity of paths that a uracil DNA glycosylase may take to acquire its unique structural and biochemical properties during evolution. BACKGROUND: Patient-derived xenografts (PDX) have a biologically stable in tumor architecture, drug responsiveness, mutational status and global gene-expression patterns. Numerous PDX models have been established to date, however their thorough characterization regarding the tumor formation and rates of tumor growth in the established models remains a challenging task. Our study aimed to provide more detailed information for establishing the PDX models successfully and effectively. METHODS: We transplanted four different types of solid tumors from 108 Chinese patients, including 21 glioblastoma (GBM), 11 lung cancers (LC), 54 gastric cancers (GC) and 21 colorectal cancers (CRC), and took tumor tissues passaged for three successive generations. Here we report the rate of tumor formation, tumor-forming times, tumor growth curves and mortality of mice in PDX model. We also report H&E staining and immunohistochemistry for HLA-A, CD45, Ki67, GFAP, and CEA protein expression between patient cancer tissues and PDX models. RESULTS: Tumor formation rate increased significantly in subsequent tumor generations. Also, the survival rates of GC and CRC were remarkably higher than GBM and LC. As for the time required for the formation of tumors, which reflects the tumor growth rate, indicated that tumor growth rate always increased as the generation number increased. The tumor growth curves also illustrate this law. Similarly, the survival rate of PDX mice gradually improved with the increased generation number in GC and CRC. And generally, there was more proliferation (Ki67+) in the PDX models than in the patient tumors, which was in accordance with the results of tumor growth rate. The histological findings confirm similar histological architecture and degrees of differentiation between patient cancer tissues and PDX models with statistical analysis by GraphPad Prism 5.0. CONCLUSION: We established four different types of PDX models successfully, and our results add to the current understanding of the establishment of PDX models and may contribute to the extension of application of different types of PDX models.

BACKGROUND: Chinese chestnut (Castanea mollissima) has emerged as a model species for the Fagaceae family with extensive genomic resources including a physical map, a dense genetic map and quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for chestnut blight resistance. These resources enable comparative genomics analyses relative to model plants. We assessed the degree of conservation between the chestnut genome and other well annotated and assembled plant genomic sequences, focusing on the QTL regions of most interest to the chestnut breeding community. RESULTS: The integrated physical and genetic map of Chinese chestnut has been improved to now include 858 shared sequence-based markers. The utility of the integrated map has also been improved through the addition of 42,970 BAC (bacterial artificial chromosome) end sequences spanning over 26 million bases of the estimated 800 Mb chestnut genome. Synteny between chestnut and ten model plant species was conducted on a macro-syntenic scale using sequences from both individual probes and BAC end sequences across the chestnut physical map. Blocks of synteny with chestnut were found in all ten reference species, with the percent of the chestnut physical map that could be aligned ranging from 10 to 39 %. The integrated genetic and physical map was utilized to identify BACs that spanned the three previously identified QTL regions conferring blight resistance. The clones were pooled and sequenced, yielding 396 sequence scaffolds covering 13.9 Mbp. Comparative genomic analysis on a microsytenic scale, using the QTL-associated genomic sequence, identified synteny from chestnut to other plant genomes ranging from 5.4 to 12.9 % of the genome sequences aligning. CONCLUSIONS: On both the macro- and micro-synteny levels, the peach, grape and poplar genomes were found to be the most structurally conserved with chestnut. Interestingly, these results did not strictly follow the expectation that decreased phylogenetic distance would correspond to increased levels of genome preservation, but rather suggest the additional influence of life-history traits on preservation of synteny. The regions of synteny that were detected provide an important tool for defining and cataloging genes in the QTL regions for advancing chestnut blight resistance research.

ABSTRACT

Bone cancer pain (BCP) is still an intractable problem currently because the analgesic pharmacological intervention remains insufficient. Thus, the development of novel therapeutic target is critical for the treatment of BCP. Emerging evidence demonstrated that some chemokines and their receptors contribute to the induction and maintenance of BCP. In this article, we reviewed the current evidence for the role of different chemokines and their receptors (e.g. CXCL12/CXCR4, CXCL1/CXCR2, CCL2/CCR2, CCL5/CCR5, CX3CL1/CX3CR1 and CXCL10/CXCR3) in mediating BCP. By extensively understanding the involvement of chemokines and their receptors in BCP, novel therapeutic targets may be revealed for the treatment of BCP.

ABSTRACT

Vegetation plays an important role in regulating the terrestrial carbon balance and the climate system, and also overwhelmingly dominates the provisioning of ecosystem services. Therefore, it has significance to monitor the growth of vegetation. Based on AVHRR GIMMS NDVI and MODIS NDVI datasets, we analyzed the spatiotemporal patterns of change in NDVI and their linkage with climate change and human activity from 1982 to 2012 in the typical arid region, Xinjiang of northwestern China, at pixel and regional scales. At regional scale, although a statistically significant positive trend of growing season NDVI with a rate of 4.09 x 10⁻4· a⁻¹ was found during 1982-2012, there were two distinct periods with opposite trends in growing season NDVI before and after 1998, respectively. NDVI in growing season first significantly increased with a rate of 10 x 10⁻4· a⁻¹ from 1982 to 1998, and then decreased with a rate of -3 x 10⁻4· a⁻¹ from 1998 to 2012. The change in trend of NDVI from increase to decrease mainly occurred in summer, followed by autumn, and the reversal wasn't observed in spring. At pixel scale, the NDVI in farmland significantly increased; the NDVI changes in the growing season and all seasons showed polarization: Areas with significant change mostly increased in size as the NDVI record grown in length. The rate of increase in size of areas with significantly decreasing NDVI was larger than that with significantly increasing NDVI, which led to the NDVI increase obviously slowing down or stopping at regional scale. The vegetation growth in the study area was regulated by both climate change and human activity. Temperature was the most important driving factor in spring and autumn, whereas precipitation in summer. Extensive use of fertilizers and increased farmland irrigated area promoted the vegetation growth. However, the rapid increase in the proportion of cotton cultivation and use of drip irrigation might reduce spring NDVI in the part of farmlands, and the increase in stocking levels of livestock might lead to a decrease in NDVI in some grasslands.

ABSTRACT

ITS2 sequence was used as a barcode to identify herbal tea ingredient Plumeria rubra and its adulterants. Genomic DNAs from forty eight samples were extracted, the ITS2 sequences were amplified and sequenced bi-direstionlly, and then assembled and obtained using CodonCode Aligner. The sequences were aligned using ClustalW, the genetic distances were computed by kimura 2-parameter (K2P) model and the Neighbor-joining (NJ) phylogenetic trees were constructed using MEGA5.0. Results showed that the length of ITS2 sequence of P. rubra were 244 bp. The intra-specific genetic distances (0-0. 016 6) were much smaller than inter-specific ones between P. rubra and its adulterants(0.320 8-0.650 4). The NJ tree indicated that P. rubra and its adulterants could be distinguished clearly. Therefore, Using ITS2 barcode can accurately andeffectively distinguish herbal tea ingredient P. rubra from its adulterants, which providesa new molecular method to identify P. rubra and ensure its safety in use.

ABSTRACT

This article investigated the spatiotemporal variation of landscape ecological risk in Dantu District of Zhenjiang City with statistical method based on the ETM remote sensing data in 2000 and 2005, and the TM remote sensing data in 2010, and quantitative index of regional ecological risk assessment was established with the employment of landscape index, so as to enhance the ecosystem management, prevent and reduce the regional ecological risk in southern Jiangsu with rapid economic development. The results showed that the fragmentations, divergence, and ecological losses of natural landscape types, such as forestland, wetland, waters, etc., were deteriorated with the expansion of built-up lands from 2000 to 2010. The higher ecological risk zone took up 5.7%, 9.0%, and 10.2% of the whole region in 2000, 2005, and 2010, respectively, which mainly distributed in the plain hilly region. During the study period, the area aggravating to the higher ecological risk zone was approximately 296.2 km2, 48% of the whole region. The ecological risk rose up in most of the region. The interference of rapid economic development to landscape patterns was even more intensive, with obvious spatial differences in ecological risk distribution. The measures of exploiting resources near the port, utilizing natural wetlands, constructing industrial parks, and rapid urbanization, etc., intensified the ecological risk and accelerated the conversion rate. Prompt strategies should be established to manage the ecological risk of this region.

ABSTRACT

The repair of various segmental tibial bone defects continues to be a challenging part of many reconstructive procedures. Many methods have been tried to repair the defects, followed by many complications and the results may be unsatisfied. Since 2001 Zuk et al. established human adipose-derived stem cells (hASCs) as a multipotent stem cell population with the ability to assume osteogenic phenotypes through chemically induced differentiation, hASCs represent a valuable tool for pharmacological and biological studies of osteoblast differentiation in vitro and bone development in vivo, and have been proved to be a useful source of stem cells in bone repair. Recently, hASCs have been found to repair both animals and human calvarial defects. In this paper, we hypothesize that hASCs cultured on custom scaffolds can be used to repair of tibial segmental bone defects with intramedullary nail internal fixed. Unlike current treatment modalities, it would promote the regeneration of tibial defects, provide structural support and allow for weight bearing and bony substitution over time.

ABSTRACT

Genomic comparisons of chordates, hemichordates, and echinoderms can inform hypotheses for the evolution of these strikingly different phyla from the last common deuterostome ancestor. Because hox genes play pivotal developmental roles in bilaterian animals, we analyzed the Hox complexes of two hemichordate genomes. We find that Saccoglossus kowalevskii and Ptychodera flava both possess 12-gene clusters, with mir10 between hox4 and hox5, in 550 kb and 452 kb intervals, respectively. Genes hox1-hox9/10 of the clusters are in the same genomic order and transcriptional orientation as their orthologs in chordates, with hox1 at the 3' end of the cluster. At the 5' end, each cluster contains three posterior genes specific to Ambulacraria (the hemichordate-echinoderm clade), two forming an inverted terminal pair. In contrast, the echinoderm Strongylocentrotus purpuratus contains a 588 kb cluster of 11 orthologs of the hemichordate genes, ordered differently, plausibly reflecting rearrangements of an ancestral hemichordate-like ambulacrarian cluster. Hox clusters of vertebrates and the basal chordate amphioxus have similar organization to the hemichordate cluster, but with different posterior genes. These results provide genomic evidence for a well-ordered complex in the deuterostome ancestor for the hox1-hox9/10 region, with the number and kind of posterior genes still to be elucidated.
