ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: People with polycystic ovary syndrome suffer from many symptoms and are at risk of developing diseases such as hypertension and diabetes in the future. Therefore, the importance of self-care doubles. It is mainly to modify the lifestyle, especially following the principles of healthy eating. The purpose of this study is to review artificial intelligence-based systems for providing management recommendations, especially food recommendations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study started by searching three databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, from inception until 6 June 2023. The result was the retrieval of 15,064 articles. First, we removed duplicate studies. After the title and abstract screening, 119 articles remained. Finally, after reviewing the full text of the articles and considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 20 studies were selected for the study. To assess the quality of articles, we used criteria proposed by Malhotra, Wen, and Kitchenham. Out of the total number of included studies, seventeen studies were high quality, while three studies were moderate quality. RESULTS: Most studies were conducted in India in 2021. Out of all the studies, diagnostic recommendation systems were the most frequently researched, accounting for 86% of the total. Precision, sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were more common than other performance metrics. The most significant challenge or limitation encountered in these studies was the small sample size. CONCLUSION: Recommender systems based on artificial intelligence can help in fields such as prediction, diagnosis, and management of polycystic ovary syndrome. Therefore, since there are no nutritional recommendation systems for these patients in Iran, this study can serve as a starting point for such research.

BACKGROUND: Improving the quality of coded data requires the identification and evaluation of the root causes of clinical coding problems to inform appropriate solutions. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to identify the root causes of clinical coding problems. METHOD: Twenty-one clinical coders from three cities in Iran were interviewed. The five formal categories in Ishikawa's cause-and-effect diagram were applied as pre-determined themes for the data analysis. RESULTS: The study indicated 16 root causes of clinical coding problems in the five main themes: (i) policies, protocols, and processes (lack of clinical documentation guidelines; lack of audit of clinical coding and feedback to clinical coders; the long interval between documentation and clinical coding; and not using coded data for reimbursement; (ii) individual factors (shortage of clinical coders; low-skilled clinical coders; clinical coders' insufficient communication with physicians; and the lack of continuing education; (iii) equipment and materials (incomplete medical records; lack of access to electronic medical records and electronic coding support tools; (iv) working environment (lack of an appropriate, dynamic, and motivational workspace; and (v) management factors (mangers' inattention to the importance of coding and clinical documentation; and to providing the required staff support. CONCLUSION: The study identified 16 root causes of clinical coding problems that stand in the way of clinical coding quality improvement. IMPLICATIONS: The quality of clinical coding could be improved by hospital managers and health policymakers taking these problems into account to develop strategies and implement solutions that target the root causes of clinical coding problems.

ABSTRACT

Families encounter some issues after the death of their loved one due to COVID-19. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the family's views on the death of their loved one due to COVID-19. This integrative review was conducted from May to Jan 2021. We searched PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, CINHAL, Magiran, and SID databases. Fifteen studies met the inclusion criteria. The results were classified into two categories, including before and after death. The issues raised before the death of the loved ones include no visit and absence at death time, fear of being infected with the COVID-19, death anxiety, failure to perform religious rites at death, and psychological problems. The after-death issues were related to funeral, burial, rituals, prolonged grieving, maladaptation, loneliness, and repeated mourning. Therefore, health policymakers should provide support before and after the death of loved ones for families.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify and validate the information content and functional capabilities of a smartphone-based application for the self-care of patients with urinary tract stones. METHODS AND MATERIALS: First, by reviewing studies and urology-oriented books, studying 214 medical records, and consulting with specialists, the information items and basic capabilities of the application were identified, and in the next stage, a researcher-made questionnaire was designed based on the information obtained from the previous step. Then, experts' opinions were considered to confirm the validity and reliability of the questionnaire; the designed questionnaire was distributed among various participants. Finally, the application's leading information elements, contents, and functional capabilities were explored by analyzing the questionnaire results. RESULTS: To conduct the survey, 101 patients with Urinary Stone Diseases (USD), 32 urologists and nephrologists, 11 nurses, and six other specialists were recruited. After analyzing the results of the filled questionnaire, 21 information elements and nine surveyed capabilities that were more important than others were selected to be used in designing the application. Some of the principal information elements that were used in the application design include: the cause of various stones in the body, clinical manifestations, laboratory results, treatments of various stones, the role of environmental factors in the treatment, the role of nutrition in the treatment and formation of stones, and different diagnostic methods. Some of the important features of the application include: medication and fluid intake reminders, laboratory test reminders, radiography and periodic examination reminders, surgical history, and easy access to medical centers for information. The mean score of information elements was 75.07 from the patients' perspective, 65.09 from the physicians' perspective, and 80.09 from the nurses' perspective. Also, the mean score of application capabilities was 31.89 from the patients' perspective, 30.37 from the physicians' perspective, and 35.09 from the nurses' perspective. The difference in the mean scores of the above variables was statistically significant (p < 0.05) in both layers. CONCLUSION: In this study, informational and functional needs and capabilities were presented for designing a mobile-based application that helps in disease management in patients with urinary tract stones.

ABSTRACT

Nurses, as front-line care providers, strive to offer adequate care to their clients. They have acquired valuable experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic that enhance the nursing profession. This study aimed to explore nurses' caring experiences in the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a qualitative meta-aggregative systematic review. Electronic databases (Google Scholar, PubMed, Web of Science, CINHAL) in English were searched to find out the meaningful subjective data on the COVID-19 pandemic. The inclusion criteria were studies published in English related to nurses' caring experiences in the COVID-19 pandemic. Seventeen qualitative studies with several approaches were included. Three key themes were identified from the studies: Weaknesses and strengths of nursing at the beginning of the pandemic, Nursing beyond challenges related to the pandemic, and Family and career challenges. Nurses face different challenges in caring for patients with COVID-19 that benefit the health and nursing professions. Governments, policymakers, and managers have to support nurses during and after the pandemic. Without enough support, nurses are likely to experience significant psychological issues that can lead to burnout and frustration.

BACKGROUND: Pain is a common health issue and acute pain is the main problem for patients after surgery and injury. Inadequate and inappropriate management of pain is dangerous and costly for patients and leads to undesirable health effects. To overcome this problem, empowerment of the health-care team, especially nurses, is essential. Today, to improve the quality of health-care provision, various methods are used that e-learning is one of them. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Based on the studies on pain management, existing parameters were extracted, and according to them, the educational content of the software was approved by nursing professors and anesthesiologists. The Unified Modeling Language diagrams were designed to provide a better understanding of the entities and the order in which the software operates. The software was implemented in the google android studio environment using Photoshop and JQuery mobile. Finally, the software was evaluated by using Questionnaire for User Interface Satisfaction. The software was evaluated by experts and students in two stages. The first stage was evaluated by eight anesthesiologists and nursing professors, and the second stage was evaluated with the participation of 55 undergraduate students and 28 M.Sc. nursing students. RESULTS: The software was developed with two main modules of training and testing, and sections of the report, about us and exit, and four scenarios for the test section. In the initial evaluation of software by experts with an average of 91.85%, and in the second assessment of students, with a mean of 78.15%, application software was evaluated at a good level. CONCLUSIONS: In order to teach academic and practical (clinical) materials to students, the use of digital teaching aids and e-learning, along with traditional methods such as lectures, increases the students' eagerness, and motivation to learn more and thereby enhance the level of learning and improving the quality of education.

BACKGROUND: Nurses have a continuous presence and crucial role in response to disasters. During disasters, nurses apply specific knowledge and skills to minimize victims' health and life-threatening risks. Nurses' roles in crisis are not clearly stated in resources. Thus, this study aimed to explore nurses' role in the nursing disaster model. METHODS: A scoping review was conducted using Joanna Briggs Institute framework. The review considered primary research and reviewed literature from following databases, including Web of Science, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, as well as the reference lists of articles identified for full-text review. Eligibility criteria were outlined as a priori to guide the literature selection. RESULTS: Eight of 60 eligible articles met the inclusion criteria. The studies were conducted in different countries with no limit of time of published articles. The publications' design were three systematic reviews, one meta-synthesis, two qualitative types of research, one quasi-experimental, and one case study. The results showed nurses' roles in the three stages before, during, and after the crisis. CONCLUSION: This review provided a comprehensive understanding of the concept of the nursing role in the crisis, and nurses could be useful to save victims through preparing and implementing effective care at different stages of a crisis.

BACKGROUND: The ability of timely access to mental health care is very important for combat veterans that are facing many barriers such as living in rural and remote areas and the lack of integration. Telemental health services improve the veterans' health situation by providing mental health care from a distance. We aimed to identify the telemental health service requirements for Iranian veterans and validate them from the perspective of the statistical population. METHODS: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2018. In the first phase, a review was conducted in relevant databases, such as PubMed, Scopus, Ovid, Ebsco, and Web of Science. In the second phase, veterans, mental health providers, and telemedicine experts were consulted to validating of the identified telemental health service requirements by a researcher-made questionnaire. Analysis of collecting data was done using SPSS software. RESULTS: By full-text reviewing of 15 related articles, the identified elements were justified in 2 main categories and 24 subcategories including telemental health services (17 items) and telemental health requirements (7 items). According to the findings, the highest score was related to "save health-care costs" (4.47) and "reduce transportation-related problems" (4.47). Moreover, the "feasible alternative to face-to-face care" (2.22) obtained the lowest score from the perspective of the statistical population. CONCLUSION: Due to the importance of accessibility and patient-based mental health services, more studies are needed to investigate the point of views of patients and specialists to better understand the concerns and barriers to the implementation and use of telemental health services.

BACKGROUND: Recently, with the development of information and communication technology in the healthcare industry, the tools of this technology have different applications such as Health Smart Card in this area. The main application of health smart card in the field of ophthalmology is providing demographic and clinical information for different people. Therefore, this study was done to identify and prioritize the data elements of the ophthalmology health smart card. METHODS: This study was a descriptive-development one that was done in 2017. A review was conducted in relevant databases including PubMed, Web of knowledge, Science direct, and Web of Science to identify appropriate related sources. In the second phase, the ophthalmology specialists and health information managers (20) in RassolAkram, Farabi and Noor Eye Hospital consulted by a questionnaire for health smart card requirements. This study carried out in Iran. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive methods in SPSS software version 19. RESULTS: Two categories of demographic and clinical data requirements for health smart card were determined. Patient ID, Occupation, and National Code were the most important demographic requirements of ophthalmology health card. Furthermore, clinical data elements of the ophthalmology health smart card were identified in three categories: Corneal Tests, Retinal Tests, Glaucoma Tests, and Associated Conditions. CONCLUSION: Using the identified data elements, it is possible to design and implement an ophthalmology health smart card. Developing an ophthalmology health smart card is expected to progress of information retrieve, facilitate communication of healthcare organizations and improve healthcare quality.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Cancer is one of the most preventable and common chronic diseases that have economic, social and psychological burden for patients, families, and the society. Cancer can be monitored by new information technology. Digital games as a uniquely powerful interaction tool support optimal care management program operation in all dimensions. The aim of this review article is to describe opportunities and challenges of this new modern technology on the delivery of cancer care services in cancer management domains for cancer care improvement. METHODS: This study was un-systematic (narrative) review article. In this research, 50 full-text papers and reports had been retrieved, studied exactly, and arranged based on study aims. We searched papers based on specific and relevant keywords in research databases including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Google scholar. CONCLUSION: In cancer management domain, digital games are as an effective medium for health education and intervention, disease self-management training, attention distraction to relieve pain, enhance clinical outcomes, improvements in lifestyles, and physical and psychosocial activity promotion when active participation and behavior rehearsal are required for cancer patient. In spite of potential benefits of new technology, sometimes people confront various challenges such as social isolation, unusual anxiety, and disorder in physiological times of body, low physical activities, decrease academic performance, increase aggressive behavior, and physical pain. These problems can be partly overcome by proper planning, good design, and usage of suitable and continuous monitoring.

ABSTRACT

Cancer diagnosis is a very unpleasant and unbelievable experience. Appropriate management and treatment of these diseases require a high degree of patient engagement. Interactive health electronic games are engaging, fun, challenging, and experiential and have the potential to change the attitude and behavior, which can improve the player's health. The use of these digital tools, as one of the most attractive and entertaining modern technologies, canem power patients, provide suitable palliative care, promote health behavior change strategies, increase patient engagement, enhance healthy lifestyle habits, improve self.management, and finally improve the quality of life of the patients. Finally, the aim of this article was to describe electronic games and their effects on the promotion of behavior change in cancer patients. In addition, this article describes categories, characteristic features, and benefits of this digital media in the lifestyle modification of cancer patients.

BACKGROUND: Static nature of performance reporting systems in health care sector has resulted in inconsistent, incomparable, time consuming, and static performance reports that are not able to transparently reflect a round picture of performance and effectively support healthcare managers' decision makings. So, the healthcare sector needs interactive performance management tools such as performance dashboards to measure, monitor, and manage performance more effectively. The aim of this article was to identify key issues that need to be addressed for developing high-quality performance dashboards in healthcare sector. METHODS: A literature review was established to search electronic research databases, e-journals collections, and printed journals, books, dissertations, and theses for relevant articles. The search strategy interchangeably used the terms of "dashboard", "performance measurement system", and "executive information system" with the term of "design" combined with operator "AND". Search results (n=250) were adjusted for duplications, screened based on their abstract relevancy and full-text availability (n=147) and then assessed for eligibility (n=40). Eligible articles were included if they had explicitly focused on dashboards, performance measurement systems or executive information systems design. Finally, 28 relevant articles included in the study. RESULTS: Creating high-quality performance dashboards requires addressing both performance measurement and executive information systems design issues. Covering these two fields, identified contents were categorized to four main domains: KPIs development, Data Sources and data generation, Integration of dashboards to source systems, and Information presentation issues. CONCLUSION: This study implies the main steps to develop dashboards for the purpose of performance management. Performance dashboards developed on performance measurement and executive information systems principles and supported by proper back-end infrastructure will result in creation of dynamic reports that help healthcare managers to consistently measure the performance, continuously detect outliers, deeply analyze causes of poor performance, and effectively plan for the future.

Introduction. The essay at hand is aimed at examining the application of use case modeling in analyzing and designing information systems to support Medical Imaging services. Methods. The application of use case modeling in analyzing and designing health information systems was examined using electronic databases (Pubmed, Google scholar) resources and the characteristics of the modeling system and its effect on the development and design of the health information systems were analyzed. Results. Analyzing the subject indicated that Provident modeling of health information systems should provide for quick access to many health data resources in a way that patients' data can be used in order to expand distant services and comprehensive Medical Imaging advices. Also these experiences show that progress in the infrastructure development stages through gradual and repeated evolution process of user requirements is stronger and this can lead to a decline in the cycle of requirements engineering process in the design of Medical Imaging information systems. Conclusion. Use case modeling approach can be effective in directing the problems of health and Medical Imaging information systems towards understanding, focusing on the start and analysis, better planning, repetition, and control.
