ABSTRACT

Objective To comapre and analyze the differences and commonalities of expression profiles of serum exosomal microRNA between patients with thyroid nodules and healthy persons at different iodine levels, and then provide evidence for screening early diag-nostic markers of thyroid nodules at different iodine levels. Methods The peripheral blood samples from 10 patients with thyroid nod-ules and healthy volunteers at different iodine levels were collected.Their serum iodine levels were measured by the arsenic cerium cat-alytic spectrophotometry.Serum exosomal microRNA were extracted and the expression levels of microRNA were determined by the high-throughput sequencing technology. The differential target genes were predicted and further performed Gene ontology(GO)analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)analysis. Results Compared with healthy volunteers, there were 6 downreg-ulated miRNAs in the patients with thyroid nodules at different iodine levels, namely miR-324-5p,miR-6511b-3p,miR-9903,miR-550a-3p,miR-5001-3p,and miR-3688-3p.Differentially expressed exosomal microRNA could regulate the MAPK signaling path-way,PI3K-AKT signaling pathway,VEGF signaling pathway, and NF-κB signaling pathway. Conclusion Six differentially expressed microRNAs is identified, which may serve as biological markers for the early diagnosis of thyroid nodules at different iodine levels.

ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the protection of parathyroid and application of nano-carbon suspen-sion in thyroid surgery .Methods 80 cases were randomly divided into 2 groups:the experimental group which were injected nano-carbon into thyroid during thyroidectomy , and the control group without any injection .Results There were 5 cases with hypocalcemia and 5 cases with PTH decrease in the experimental group , and there were 15 cases and 14 cases respectively in the control group .Pathological results showed that misresection of par-athyroids occurred in 6 cases of the control group(11 parathyroid glands)were while it didn't happen in the experi-mental group .Conclusion Nano-carbon can help to identify and protect the parathyroid , decreasing the proba-bility of parathyroid gland damage during thyroid surgery .

ABSTRACT

A tumor suppressor gene at 10q23.3, designated PTEN, encoding a dual specificity phosphatase with lipid and protein phosphatase activity, has been shown to play an important role in the pathogenesis of a variety of human cancers and sporadic tumor. In this paper, we reviewed the construction and function of PTEN, and the mechanism of activation in cancer especially in thyroid carcinoma.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of ectopic thyroid gland and to improve the management of ectopic thyroid. Methods The clinical data of 15 cases of ectopic thyroid in our hospital and the literatures were analyzed. The clinical features of ectopic thyroid gland, its diagnosis and the treatment were summarized. Results Of the 15 cases, 13 cases underwent operation. Among them, 9 cases showed symptom relief and their thyroid gland function resumed normal with no reoccurrence, 3 cases were complicated by temporary hypothyroidism and 1 case was misdiagnosed and mistreated, resulting in permanent hypothyroidism and lifetime thyroid hormone replacement. Conclusions Ectopic thyroid gland is a rare disease which was frequently misdiagnosed and mistreated. Improvement of related examination is essential in reducing misdiagnosis and mistreatment.
