ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Advances in laboratory techniques for HPV diagnosis necessitate a thorough assessment of the efficiency, replicability, sensitivity, and specificity of those methods. This study aims to validate and compare HPV detection/genotyping using the Anyplex™ II HPV28 Detection assay (Seegene) assay and the Linear Array HPV Genotyping test (Roche Diagnostics) on genital samples for use in epidemiological studies. METHODS: From 6,388 penile and cervical DNA samples collected in the POP-Brazil, 1,745 were randomly selected to be included in this study. The samples were submitted to HPV detection and genotyping following the manufacturers' protocols. DNA was genotyped using the Anyplex™ II HPV28 Detection kit (Seegene), and the results were compared to those obtained using the Linear Array HPV Genotyping test (Roche Diagnostics). Concordance of HPV genotyping results was assessed by the percentage agreement and Cohen's kappa score (κ). RESULTS: The agreement between the two methodologies was deemed good for HPV detection (κ = 0.78). Notably, Anyplex™ II HPV28 demonstrated enhanced capability in detecting a broader spectrum of genotypes compared to Linear Array. CONCLUSION: Anyplex™ II HPV28 exhibited comparable results to the Linear Array assay in clinical specimens, showcasing its potential suitability for a diverse array of research applications requiring the detection and genotyping of HPV. The study supports the utility of Anyplex™ II HPV28 as an effective tool for HPV screening in epidemiological studies, emphasizing its robust performance in comparison to established diagnostic tests.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: This paper aims to instigate discussion and publication of methodologies applied to enhance quality management through comprehensive scientific reports. It provides a detailed description of the design, implementation, and results of the quality control program employed in the SMESH study. METHODS: Cross-sectional, multicenter, national study designed to assess the prevalence of human papillomavirus in sex workers and in men who have sex with men (MSM). Respondent-driven sampling recruitment was used. An online system was developed for the study and checkpoints were defined for data entry. The system checked the quality of biological samples and performed a retest with part of the sample. RESULTS: A total of 1.598 participants (442 sex workers and 1.156 MSM) were included. Fifty-four health professionals were trained for face-to-face data collection. The retest showed Kappa values ranging between 0.3030 and 0.7663. CONCLUSION: The retest data were mostly classified as indicating a strong association. The data generated by the checkpoints showed the successful implementation of the quality control program.

Introduction: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is present in high amounts in salivary glands, but it is unclear whether labeled binders of PSMA are excreted in the saliva. Methods: Ten patients with prostate cancer underwent whole-body [18F]DCFPyL PET/CT (NCT03181867), and saliva samples were collected between 0-120 minutes post-injection. [18F]DCFPyL salivary excretion was measured over 120 minutes and expressed as %ID/g. Protein-associated binding was estimated by the percentage of [18F]DCFPyL versus parent radiotracer. Results: All PET scans of 10 patients (69 ± 8 years) with histologically confirmed prostate cancer (PSA= 2.4 ± 2.4, and Gleason Grade = 6-9) showed high uptake of [18F]-DCFPyL in salivary glands while 8 patients demonstrated high uptake in the saliva at 45 minutes. The intact [18F]-DCFPyL (98%) was also confirmed in the saliva samples at 120 min with increasing salivary radioactivity between 30-120 min. Conclusion: Systemically injected [18F]DCFPyL shows salivary gland uptake, an increasing amount of which is secreted in saliva over time and is not maximized by 120 minutes post-injection. Although probably insignificant for diagnostic studies, patients undergoing PSMA-targeted therapies should be aware of radioactivity in saliva.

The TP53 3'UTR variant rs78378222 A>C has been detected in different tumor types as a somatic alteration that reduces p53 expression through modification of polyadenylation and miRNA regulation. Its prevalence is not yet known in all tumors. Herein, we examine tumor tissue prevalence of rs7837822 in Brazilian cohorts of patients from south and southeast regions diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD, n=586), sarcoma (SARC, n=188) and uterine leiomyoma (ULM, n=41). The minor allele (C) was identified in heterozygosity in 6/586 LUAD tumors (prevalence = 1.02 %) and none of the SARC and ULM samples. Additionally, next generation sequencing analysis revealed that all variant-positive tumors (n=4) with sample availability had additional pathogenic or likely pathogenic somatic variants in the TP53 coding regions. Among them, 3/4 (75 %) had the same pathogenic or likely pathogenic sequence variant (allele frequency <0.05 in tumor DNA) namely c.751A>C (p.Ile251Leu). Our results indicate a low somatic prevalence of rs78378222 in LUAD, ULM and SARC tumors from Brazilian patients, which suggests that no further analysis of this variant in the specific studied regions of Brazil is warranted. However, these findings should not exclude tumor molecular testing of this TP53 3'UTR functional variant for different populations.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS) is a rare cancer predisposing condition caused by germline pathogenic TP53 variants, in which core tumors comprise sarcomas, breast, brain and adrenocortical neoplasms. Clinical manifestations are highly variable in carriers of the Brazilian germline founder variant TP53 p.R337H, possibly due to the influence of modifier genes such as miRNA genes involved in the regulation of the p53 pathway. Herein, we investigated the potential phenotypic effects of two miRNA-related functional SNPs, pri-miR-34b/c rs4938723 and 3'UTR KRAS rs61764370, in a cohort of 273 LFS patients from Southern and Southeastern Brazil. METHODS: The genotyping of selected SNPs was performed by TaqMan® allelic discrimination and subsequently custom TaqMan® genotyping results were confirmed by Sanger sequencing in all SNP-positive LFS patients. RESULTS: Although the KRAS SNP showed no effect as a phenotype modulator, the rs4938723 CC genotype was significantly associated with development of LFS non-core tumors (first tumor diagnosis) in p.R337H carriers (p = 0.039). Non-core tumors were also more frequently diagnosed in carriers of germline TP53 DNA binding domain variants harboring the rs4938723 C variant allele. Previous studies described pri-miR-34b/c rs4938723 C as a risk allele for sporadic occurrence of thyroid and prostate cancers (non-core tumors of the LFS spectrum). CONCLUSION: With this study, we presented additional evidence about the importance of analyzing miRNA genes that could indirectly regulate p53 expression, and, therefore, may modulate the LFS phenotype, such as those of the miR-34 family.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: CD103 is an integrin specifically expressed on the surface of cancer-reactive T cells. The number of CD103+ T cells significantly increases during successful immunotherapy and might therefore be an attractive biomarker for noninvasive PET imaging of immunotherapy response. Since the long half-life of antibodies preclude repeat imaging of CD103+ T cell dynamics early in therapy, we therefore here explored PET imaging with CD103 Fab fragments radiolabeled with a longer (89Zr) and shorter-lived radionuclide (68Ga). METHODS: Antihuman CD103 Fab fragment Fab01A was radiolabeled with 89Zr or 68Ga, generating [89Zr]Zr-hCD103.Fab01A and [68Ga]Ga-hCD103.Fab01A, respectively. In vivo evaluation of these tracers was performed in male nude mice (BALB/cOlaHsd-Foxn1nu) with established CD103-expressing CHO (CHO.CD103) or CHO-wildtype (CHO.K1) xenografts, followed by serial PET imaging and ex vivo bio-distribution. RESULTS: [89Zr]Zr-hCD103.Fab01A showed high tracer uptake in CD103+ xenografts as early as 3 h post-injection. However, the background signal remained high in the 3- and 6-h scans. The background was relatively low at 24 h after injection with sufficient tumor uptake. [68Ga]Ga-hCD103.Fab01Ashowed acceptable uptake and signal-to-noise ratio in CD103+ xenografts after 3 h, which decreased at subsequent time points. CONCLUSION: [89Zr]Zr-hCD103.Fab01A demonstrated a relatively low background and high xenograft uptake in scans as early as 6 h post-injection and could be explored for repeat imaging during immunotherapy in clinical trials. 18F or 64Cu could be explored as alternative to 68Ga in optimizing half-life and radiation burden of the tracer.

ABSTRACT

For decades, only two nitroheterocyclic drugs have been used as therapeutic agents for Chagas disease. However, these drugs present limited effectiveness during the chronic phase, possess unfavorable pharmacokinetic properties, and induce severe adverse effects, resulting in low treatment adherence. A previous study reported that N-(cyclohexylcarbamothioyl) benzamide (BTU-1), N-(tert-butylcarbamothioyl) benzamide (BTU-2), and (4-bromo-N-(3-nitrophenyl) carbamothioyl benzamide (BTU-3) present selective antiprotozoal activity against all developmental forms of Trypanosoma cruzi Y strain. In this study, we investigated the mechanism of action of these compounds through microscopy and biochemical analyses. Transmission electron microscopy analysis showed nuclear disorganization, changes in the plasma membrane with the appearance of blebs and extracellular arrangements, intense vacuolization, mitochondrial swelling, and formation of myelin-like structures. Biochemical results showed changes in the mitochondrial membrane potential, reactive oxygen species content, lipid peroxidation, and plasma membrane fluidity. In addition, the formation of autophagic vacuoles was observed. These findings indicate that BTU-1, BTU-2, and BTU-3 induced profound morphological, ultrastructural, and biochemical alterations in epimastigote forms, triggering an autophagic-dependent cell death pathway.

99mTc-EDDA/HYNIC-TOC is an easily available and cheaper radionuclide that could be used for somatostatin-receptor-based imaging of neuroendocrine tumours (NETs). We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of 99mTc-EDDA/HYNIC-TOC compared to111In-DTPA-octreotide in patients (pts) with NETs. We performed a prospective diagnostic study including pts with biopsy-confirmed NET and at least one visible lesion at conventional imaging. Two independent nuclear medicine physicians evaluated pts who underwent 99mTc and 111In scans and images. The primary outcome was comparative diagnostic accuracy of 99mTc and 111In. Secondary outcomes include safety. Nine pts were included and performed 14 paired scans. Overall, 126 lesions were identified. 99mTc demonstrated superior sensitivity both when all images were analysed (93.7, 95% CI 88.1% - 96.8% versus 74.8%, 95% CI 66.6 - 81.6%, p < 0.001) and when liver-specific images were analysed (97.8%, 95% CI 92.7% - 99.5% versus 85.1%, 95% CI 76.6% - 91.0%, p < 0.001). 99mTc was also associated with a lower negative likelihood ratio (LR) (0.002, 95% CI 0.009 - 0.1 versus 0.19, 95% CI 0.12 - 0.42, p = 0.009) when evaluating hepatic lesions. Adverse events happened in 3 pts after 111In and in 2 pts after 99mTc, all grade 1. The 99mTc demonstrated a higher sensitivity overall and a better negative LR in liver-specific images compared to 111In in pts with NETs. Our findings suggest that 99mTc is an alternative to 111In and is especially useful in ruling out liver metastases. NCT02691078.

The present study aimed to analyze the evolution of the implementation of Family Health and Primary Health Care Expanded Support Centers (NASF-AB, in Portuguese) in the municipalities of Southern Brazil, from 2008 to 2019, in light of the inverse equity hypothesis. This was an ecological study, considering 1,188 municipalities of Southern Brazil. The analyses were separated by state, with municipalities divided into quartiles of Municipal Human Development Index - Income (MHDI-Income). Our study calculated the cumulative percentage of the implementation of NASF-AB within the given period and the inequality between Q1 (richest) and Q4 (poorest), assessed by the absolute and relative inequality measures. In Paraná, Q1 presented a higher coverage of NASF-AB than did Q4, and, although the inequality had decreased at the end of the period, it was still quite distinct, according to the "top inequality" pattern. In Santa Catarina, the predictions of the hypothesis were confirmed, with inequalities found in the beginning of the period and a near 90% decline once NASF-AB had been implemented in the municipalities of Q1, characterizing the "bottom inequality" pattern. In Rio Grande do Sul, the hypothesis was refuted observing that since 2014 there was a greater implementation in Q4 as compared to Q1 was observed.

ABSTRACT

The textile industry is known for its large consumption of water, energy, and chemical products, making it one of the most environmentally impactful activities. To measure these environmental impacts, life cycle analysis (LCA) is a powerful tool that considers the entire process, from the extraction of raw materials to the finalization of textile products. In this context, this work aimed to present a systematic study on the use of the LCA methodology in the environmental assessment of effluents from the textile industry. The survey for data was carried out using the Scopus and Web of Science databases, and the PRISMA method was utilized for organizing and selecting of articles. During the meta-analysis phase bibliometric and specific data were extracted from selected publications. For the bibliometric analysis, a quali-quantitative approach was adopted, and the VOSviewer software was employed. The review encompasses a total of 29 articles, which were published between 1996 and 2023.The majority of the reviewed articles have shown the use of the LCA as a supportive tool for optimization focusing on sustainability, comparing the environmental, economic, and technical aspects through different approaches. The findings revel that China has the highest number of authors among the selected articles, while researchers from France and Italy had the highest number of international collaborations. The ReCiPe and CML methods were the most frequently used for evaluating life cycle inventories, with global warming, terrestrial acidification, ecotoxicity, and ozone depletion being the main impact categories. The use of activated carbon in textile effluents treatment has shown to be promising since it is environmentally friendly.

OBJECTIVE: To identify terms of the specialized nursing language used in the care of older adults at home and map them with the International Classification for Nursing Practice. METHOD: This is a methodological study, operationalized by the steps of extraction of terms from the specialized nursing language in the care of older adults at home from official documents; normalization; cross mapping between extracted terms and those included in the International Classification for Nursing Practice, 2019/2020 version; distribution according to the Seven-Axis Model. RESULTS: A total of 12,365 terms were identified and, after manual screening, 530 terms were included, which were mapped with the International Classification for Nursing Practice and analyzed according to the level of equivalence, resulting in the presence of 460 (86.8%) terms, 375 (70.7%) with level of equivalence 1 and 85 (16.0%) with level of equivalence 2; and 70 (13.2%) non-included terms, 34 (6.4%) with level of equivalence 3, 22 (4.1%) with level of equivalence 4 and 14 (2.6%) with level of equivalence 5. CONCLUSION: The terms identified will serve as a basis for the elaboration of diagnoses, results, and nursing interventions for older adults living at home.

ABSTRACT

Prostate cancer remains a major cause of mortality and morbidity, affecting millions of men, with a large percentage expected to develop the disease as they reach advanced ages. Treatment and management advances have been dramatic over the past 50 years or so, and one aspect of these improvements is reflected in the multiple advances in diagnostic imaging techniques. Much attention has been focused on molecular imaging techniques that offer high sensitivity and specificity and can now more accurately assess disease status and detect recurrence earlier. During development of molecular imaging probes, single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) must be evaluated in preclinical models of the disease. If such agents are to be translated to the clinic, where patients undergoing these imaging modalities are injected with a molecular imaging probe, these agents must first be approved by the FDA and other regulatory agencies prior to their adoption in clinical practice. Scientists have worked assiduously to develop preclinical models of prostate cancer that are relevant to the human disease to enable testing of these probes and related targeted drugs. Challenges in developing reproducible and robust models of human disease in animals are beset with practical issues such as the lack of natural occurrence of prostate cancer in mature male animals, the difficulty of initiating disease in immune-competent animals and the sheer size differences between humans and conveniently smaller animals such as rodents. Thus, compromises in what is ideal and what can be achieved have had to be made. The workhorse of preclinical animal models has been, and remains, the investigation of human xenograft tumor models in athymic immunocompromised mice. Later models have used other immunocompromised models as they have been found and developed, including the use of directly derived patient tumor tissues, completely immunocompromised mice, orthotopic methods for inducing prostate cancer within the mouse prostate itself and metastatic models of advanced disease. These models have been developed in close parallel with advances in imaging agent chemistries, radionuclide developments, computer electronics advances, radiometric dosimetry, biotechnologies, organoid technologies, advances in in vitro diagnostics, and overall deeper understandings of disease initiation, development, immunology, and genetics. The combination of molecular models of prostatic disease with radiometric-based studies in small animals will always remain spatially limited due to the inherent resolution sensitivity limits of PET and SPECT decay processes, fundamentally set at around a 0.5 cm resolution limit. Nevertheless, it is central to researcher's efforts and to successful clinical translation that the best animal models are adopted, accepted, and scientifically verified as part of this truly interdisciplinary approach to addressing this important disease.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: The aim of this narrative review is to sumarize data about the use and role of telemedicine in maternal fetal medicine (MFM). Methods: We searched pubmed and scopus to find articles about telemedicine in MFM by using the terms telmedicine or telehealth and maternal fetal medicine. Results: Telehealth has been widely used for several medical specialties. During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, telehealth has gained investment and further research. Even though telemedicine in MFM has not been frequently applied, from 2020 onwards it has increased in both implementation and acceptance worldwide. The need to screen the patients in overloaded centers in a pandemic scenario required telemedicine in MFM, which has exhibited consistently good results concerning health and budget. The aim of this study was to review the telehealth programs and research focused on MFM around the world. Few studies have been applied to MFM and even fewer in developing and undeveloped countries. The majority of studies were concentrated in the USA and in Europe. Conclusion: Further research is needed, especially in non-developed countries, to comprehend the potential role of telemedicine in MFM for improving the life quality of the patients, health professionals, and to be cost-efficient.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective: To identify terms of the specialized nursing language used in the care of older adults at home and map them with the International Classification for Nursing Practice. Method: This is a methodological study, operationalized by the steps of extraction of terms from the specialized nursing language in the care of older adults at home from official documents; normalization; cross mapping between extracted terms and those included in the International Classification for Nursing Practice, 2019/2020 version; distribution according to the Seven-Axis Model. Results: A total of 12,365 terms were identified and, after manual screening, 530 terms were included, which were mapped with the International Classification for Nursing Practice and analyzed according to the level of equivalence, resulting in the presence of 460 (86.8%) terms, 375 (70.7%) with level of equivalence 1 and 85 (16.0%) with level of equivalence 2; and 70 (13.2%) non-included terms, 34 (6.4%) with level of equivalence 3, 22 (4.1%) with level of equivalence 4 and 14 (2.6%) with level of equivalence 5. Conclusion: The terms identified will serve as a basis for the elaboration of diagnoses, results, and nursing interventions for older adults living at home.


RESUMEN Objetivo: Identificar términos del lenguaje especializado de enfermería utilizados en el cuidado de ancianos en el domicilio y mapearlos con la Clasificación Internacional de la Práctica de Enfermería. Método: Estudio metodológico, operacionalizado por las etapas: extracción de términos del lenguaje especializado de enfermería en el cuidado de ancianos que viven en sus casas a partir de documentos oficiales; normalización; mapeo cruzado entre los términos extraídos y los contenidos en la Clasificación Internacional de la Práctica de Enfermería, versión 2019/2020; distribución según el modelo de siete ejes. Resultados: Se identificaron 12.365 términos y luego de la clasificación manual se incluyeron 530 términos, los cuales fueron mapeados con la Clasificación Internacional de la Práctica de Enfermería y analizados según el grado de equivalencia, resultando 460 (86,8%) términos constantes, 375 (70,7%) con grado de equivalencia 1 y 85 (16,0%) con grado de equivalencia 2; y 70 (13,2%) términos no constantes, 34 (6,4%) con grado de equivalencia 3, 22 (4,1%) con grado de equivalencia 4 y 14 (2,6%) con grado de equivalencia 5. Conclusión: Los términos identificados servirán como base para la elaboración de diagnósticos, resultados e intervenciones de enfermería para personas mayores que viven en el hogar.

Método: Estudo metodológico, operacionalizado pelas etapas: extração de termos da linguagem especializada de enfermagem no cuidado à pessoa idosa domiciliada a partir de documentos oficiais; normalização; mapeamento cruzado entre termos extraídos e os constantes na a Classificação Internacional para a Prática de Enfermagem, versão 2019/2020; distribuição segundo Modelo de Sete Eixos. Resultados: Identificaram-se 12.365 termos e após a triagem manual foram incluídos 530 termos, que foram mapeados com a Classificação Internacional para a Prática de Enfermagem e analisados de acordo com o grau de equivalência, resultando em 460 (86,8%) termos constantes, sendo 375 (70,7%) com grau de equivalência 1 e 85 (16,0%) com grau de equivalência 2; e 70 (13,2%) termos não constantes, sendo 34 (6,4%) com grau de equivalência 3, 22 (4,1%) com grau de equivalência 4 e 14 (2,6%) com grau de equivalência 5. Conclusão: Os termos identificados servirão de base para a elaboração de diagnósticos, resultados e intervençōes de enfermagem para pessoas idosas domiciliadas.

ABSTRACT

RESUMO. Este estudo, fundamentado na perspectiva da psicologia cultural-histórica sobre a pessoa com deficiência, teve por objetivo apreender a dimensão subjetiva da realidade (ou as mediações) das crianças com a Síndrome Congênita do Zika Vírus (SCZV) no contexto escolar de desenvolvimento e aprendizagem a partir dos sentidos produzidos por cuidadoras escolares. Para tal, foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com três cuidadoras escolares que trabalham em três creches pertencentes ao sistema de educação de ensino de Campina Grande/PB. Para análise dos dados, foi realizado o procedimento dos Núcleos de Significação, que visa à apreensão das contradições que constituem as produções de significação discursiva dos sujeitos participantes. Os resultados indicaram que as cuidadoras escolares priorizam a mediação pedagógica na relação estabelecida com as crianças com SCZV, embora não desconsiderem a instância do cuidado em termos das necessidades especiais relacionadas à integridade psicomotora que essas crianças apresentam. Ademais, foi evidenciado que as participantes salientam as potencialidades das crianças em detrimento da falta ou lesão gerada pela deficiência.


RESUMEN. Este estudio, basado en la perspectiva de la psicología cultural-histórica sobre las personas con discapacidad, tenía como objetivo apreciar la dimensión subjetiva de la realidad de los niños con Síndrome Congénito del Virus del Zika (SCVZ). en el contexto escolar del desarrollo y el aprendizaje de los significados producidos por los cuidadores escolares. Para ello, se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas con tres cuidadores escolares de guarderías diferentes que pertenecen al sistema educativo de Campina Grande/PB. Para el análisis de datos, se realizó el procedimiento de los núcleos de significación, cuyo objetivo es aprehender las contradicciones que constituyen las producciones de significado discursiva de los participantes. Los resultados indicaron que los cuidadores de la escuela dan prioridad a la mediación pedagógica en la relación establecida con los niños con SCVZ, aunque no descuidan la instancia de cuidado en cuanto a las necesidades especiales relacionadas con la integridad psicomotora que tienen estos niños. Además, se destacó que los participantes ponen de relieve el potencial de los niños en detrimento de la falta o lesión generada por la discapacidad.


ABSTRACT This study is based by the perspective of the cultural-historical psychology on people with disabilities, aimed to apprehend the subjective dimension of the reality (or mediations) of children with Congenital Zika Virus Syndrome (CZVS) on the school context development and learning from the senses produced by school children caregivers. For this reason, semi-structured interviews were conducted with three caregivers working in three daycare centers belonging to the teaching system of education in Campina Grande/PB. For data analysis, was performed the meaning core, which aims to apprehend the contradictions that constitute the productions of discursive meaning in the participating subjects. The results indicated that school caregivers prioritize the mediation in the relationship established with children CZVS, though not disregard the instance of care in terms of the special needs related to psychomotor integrity that these children have. Furthermore, it was evidenced that the participants emphasize the children's potentialities to the detriment of the lack or injury generated by the disability.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: There are many different types of nursing care delivery models used to organize and provide care in hospitals. These models are comprised of different organizational structures and staffing skill mixes. Objective: The aim of this study was to explore how nursing care delivery models promote intraprofessional collaborative care in acute care hospitals from the perspectives of nurse leaders. Methods: A qualitative descriptive approach was used for this study. Telephone interviews were conducted between January 2021 and August 2021 using an interview guide comprised of semi-structured and structured questions. Using a purposeful sampling technique, ten leaders from nine hospital systems, representing both urban and rural hospitals in the province of Ontario, Canada, participated in the study. Content analysis was conducted resulting in two overarching themes. Results: The first theme, Fluidity of the Model addresses the flexibility of the models and the impact of contextual factors such as changes in nurses' scope of practice, government funding changes, staffing mix, and organizational policies and rules. The second theme, Tools of the Trade describes the resources that hospitals implement to promote intraprofessional collaboration that indirectly impacts on patient safety. Conclusion: Nursing care delivery models need to be flexible and adaptable. All nursing care delivery models in this study used various tools to promote intraprofessional collaborative care.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: to construct statements of nursing diagnoses for the clinical practice of rehabilitation of people with spinal cord injury using the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) and Orem's theory of self-care. METHODS: methodological study developed in four steps: identification of relevant terms to clinical nursing practice in the rehabilitation of people with spinal cord injury; mapping of selected terms with ICNP® terms; construction of nursing diagnoses statements; mapping of statements constructed with pre-coordinated concepts of the ICNP®. RESULTS: 241 statements of nursing diagnoses were constructed and categorized according to the self-care requisites of the theory. The most prevalent statements were those related to universal requisites, followed by developmental requisites and health deviation requisites. CONCLUSIONS: the constructed nursing diagnoses reflect the complexity of phenomena evidenced in the clinical practice of rehabilitation, allowing a systematic and comprehensive care to the person with spinal cord injury.

ABSTRACT

The increasing incidence of cancer over the years is one of the most challenging problems in healthcare. As cancer progresses, the recruitment of several immune cells is triggered. Infiltration of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) is correlated with poor patient prognosis. Since TAMs constitute a big portion of the tumor mass, targeting these cells seems to be an attractive approach for cancer immunotherapy. Additionally, TAM assessment using non-invasive imaging techniques, such as positron emission tomography (PET), might provide a better understanding of the role of TAMs in cancer, and a means for tumor profile characterization, patient selection for individualized immunotherapy and treatment monitoring. Imaging of TAMs using PET tracers is still in its infancy. TAMs have several characteristics that could be exploited as potential targets for imaging. Various PET tracers for these TAM biomarkers have been developed, although often in the context of (neuro)inflammatory diseases rather than cancer. Since macrophages in inflammatory diseases express similar biomarkers as TAMs, these PET tracers could potentially also be applied for the assessment of TAMs in the tumor microenvironment. Therefore, the present review provides an overview of the TAM biomarkers, for which potential PET tracers are available and discusses the status of these tracers.
