ABSTRACT

Objetivou-se, com este estudo, avaliar o ajuste dos modelos de Brody, Gompertz, Logístico e Von Bertalanffy aos dados de altura na cernelha de equinos Mangalarga Marchador, ponderando pelo inverso da variância, a fim de selecionar o melhor modelo e predizer sobre o crescimento e a maturidade dos animais dessa raça. Foram utilizados dados de 230 equinos dos seis aos 176 meses de idade, os quais foram divididos por sexo e em 16 classes de idade. Os modelos estudados foram comparados segundo os avaliadores de qualidade: coeficiente de determinação (R2); desvio padrão residual (DPR) e critério de informação de Akaike (AIC). A estimação dos parâmetros dos modelos foi realizada pelo método de mínimos quadrados ponderado no software R. Todos os modelos avaliados se mostraram adequados para descrever a curva de crescimento em ambos os sexos. Perante os avaliadores utilizados, o modelo Logístico foi o mais adequado para descrever as curvas de crescimento em altura na cernelha nos dois sexos da raça Mangalarga Marchador. Observou-se também um crescimento acelerado nos primeiros meses de idade. Os animais machos atingiram uma altura adulta maior, porém as fêmeas são mais precoces, pois apresentaram maior estimativa para o índice de maturidade.(AU)


This work aimed to evaluate the fit of models Brody, Gompertz, Logistic and Von Bertalanffy to height at the withers of Mangalarga Marchador horses, weighed by the inverse of variance, in order to select the best model and predict growth and maturity of this breed pf animals. We used data of 230 equines from 06 to 176 months of age who were divided by sex and 16 age classes. The models were compared according to the quality assessors: coefficient of determination (R2); residual standard deviation (RSD) and Akaike information criteria (AIC). The estimation of the parameters from models was performed by the weighted least squares method in Software R. All models evaluated were suitable to describe the growth curve in both sexes. In view of the evaluators used, the logistic model was the most suitable to describe the growth curves in withers height in both sexes for the race Mangalarga Marchador. A strong growth at first age was also observed. The males reached a greater adult height, but females did so sooner, because they presented higher estimates for the maturity index.(AU)

ABSTRACT

A growth trial with Senegalese Sole (Solea senegalensis Kaup, 1858) juveniles fed with diets containing increasing replacement levels of fishmeal by mixtures of plant protein sources was conducted over 12 weeks. Total fat contents of muscle, liver, viscera, skin, fins and head tissues were determined, as well as fatty acid profiles of muscle and liver (GC-FID analysis). Liver was the preferential local for fat deposition (5.5-10.8% of fat) followed by fins (3.4-6.7% fat). Increasing levels of plant protein in the diets seems to be related to increased levels of total lipids in the liver. Sole muscle is lean (2.4-4.0% fat), with total lipids being similar among treatments. Liver fatty acid profile varied significantly among treatments. Plant protein diets induced increased levels of C16:1 and C18:2 n-6 and a decrease in ARA and EPA levels. Muscle fatty acid profile also evidenced increasing levels of C18:2 n-6, while ARA and DHA remained similar among treatments. Substitution of fishmeal by plant protein is hence possible without major differences on the lipid content and fatty acid profile of the main edible portion of the fish - the muscle.

ABSTRACT

UNLABELLED: The value of measuring projected area of transverse segment of hand nailfold capillary loops using computerized videophotometry was studied in 17 healthy individuals (10 women and 7 men) group A and 17 patients with diabetes type 2 (10 women and 7 men) group B with comparable ages (49.94+/-8.62 x 49.11+/-14.63 years old P=0.49). Videocapillaroscopy (VC) was performed under controlled temperature environment (24-26 degrees C). The test of post-occlusive reactive hyperemia was performed using a sphygmomanometer attached to the fourth left hand finger, 20 mmHg above maximum arterial pressure during 1 min. Images were captured each 2 s during 1 min. Time averages to reach the maximum post-ischemia area were determined as well as the area's increment percent in both groups. Both averages were compared by the Mann-Whitney test. There was no differences between area increments percent averages among controls and patients with diabetes (52.49+/-22.6 x 67.99+/-47.48% P=0.67), but the time to reach it during reperfusion was significantly increased among diabetics (5.52+/-2.96 x 18.58+/-8.08 s P<0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: changes of capillary response to ischemia may be observed among patients with diabetes through bi-dimensional measures of projected area of capillary loops transverse segment in VC using a computerized system of image analysis. Patients with Diabetes mellitus do not have significantly different maximum area increments than controls, but spend more time to reach it during reperfusion.
