ABSTRACT

The study aimed to investigate the magnitude and shape of the forces applied on the foot rest, foot strap, and paddle. Thirteen elite male kayakers participated in this study and performed a 2-min test simulating 500 m race pace in a kayak ergometer. Forces applied by the kayakers on the paddle, foot rest, and foot strap were measured with load cells and recorded by an electronic measuring system. The magnitude of the peak forces applied on the foot rest (left: 543.27 ± 85.93; right: 524.39 ± 88.36) approximately doubled the ones applied on the paddle (left: 236.37 ± 19.32; right: 243.92 ± 28.89). The forces on the foot strap were similar in magnitude to the paddle forces (left: 240.09 ± 74.92; right: 231.05 ± 52.01). A positive correlation was found between the peak forces applied on the foot rest and paddle on the same side (p < 0.001). When comparing the best and worst kayakers' performance, the best showed greater forces magnitudes and synchronization of the peak forces. Analyses of the force-time curves, including not only the forces applied by the kayaker on the paddle but also the ones applied on the foot rest and strap, should be considered relevant in terms of technique analyses.

ABSTRACT

Eye defects can lead to emotional, psychological, and social changes, impacting negatively the quality of life of the patient. When these structures cannot be satisfactorily repaired by reconstructive surgery, the prosthetic rehabilitation is the better treatment option to restore lost ocular anatomy and promote the social integration of the individual. The aim of this clinical report is to report and discuss a case of ocular prosthesis confection eviscerated patient with opening limitation eyelid and shortening of the distance between palpebral commissure, to obtain a more natural and comfortable to the patient ocular rehabilitation.

ABSTRACT

The symmetry, shape, contour, and size of teeth play an important role in the esthetics of the anterior maxillary region of the mouth. However, abnormalities in symmetry and contour can considerably influence the esthetic parameters. Consequently, rehabilitation performed in this region can be challenging and, frequently, multidisciplinary treatment planning that includes esthetics, function, structure, and biologic aspects is paramount. The high demand for esthetic rehabilitations has, therefore, allowed the effective use of minimally invasive techniques to obtain results that mimic natural teeth. This article presents a case report in which both esthetic and functional rehabilitation were obtained by recontouring the gingival zenith followed by placing ultraconservative porcelain veneers.

ABSTRACT

The occlusal adjustment is a technique widely used to modify the occlusal surface occlusal surface of the teeth in order to restore the occlusal, articular and neuromuscular equilibrium. However, its indication should be specific, considering that it is an irreversible procedure. In this context, several authors have addressed the clinical sequence to perform the occlusal adjustment, although the use of different nomenclatures and techniques makes it a difficult understand procedure to dentists. Thus, the aim of this study is to discuss the main aspects related to occlusal adjustment in natural teeth through selective grinding, proposing a simplified approach of the technique, considering a functional and dynamic occlusion assessment
