ABSTRACT

Contribution of one case report of congenital urethral diverticulum, located in the anterior urethra with narrow opening, that occurred in an adult male patient as a post-traumatic urethrorrage and presented with no obstructive symptomatology. The occasional incidence, etiology and atypical presentation form of this entity are examined. The diagnostic features, where urethrocystography still prevails, as well as the surgical alternatives are also discussed.

ABSTRACT

From November 1987 treatment of urinary lithiasis regardless location was initiated in our Service of extracorporal renal lithofragmentation using shockwaves. Up until August 1988 (10 months), 411 patients have been treated representing a total of 590 lithiasis and 699 sessions on which the present communication is based; treatment included calculus of various chemical composition, as well as different sizes and locations. Also the relationship between sex, age, number of waves, use of analgesia, hospital stay, etc, has been considered. Results obtained after a 2.5 months follow-up are: 60.34% fragments-free and 39.41% in expulsion stage. Monotherapy was chosen in 98% cases and multiple drug therapy in the remaining 2%. There has been no case of complementary open surgical therapy. Thus, we consider extracorporal renal lithofragmentation as the ideal treatment for urinary lithiasis, as long as the indication is correct. And we believe it to be the ideal treatment since it is a simple procedure, highly effective and with few complications.

ABSTRACT

We present a series of cases of complex renal lithiasis, in which we carried out temporary internal urinary bypassing, prior to extracorporeal lithotripsy, by means of the retrograde insertion of a double-J urethral catheter, studying the time of stay, the presence or not of contamination in the catheter and its relationship with the calcifications found in them. We also carried out a metabolic-functional study of each patient, determining the urinary pH and the serum and urinary calcium, phosphorous and uric acid concentrations, and observing their possible influence on the above-mentioned complications. Of the 25 catheters studied, we observed calcification in 11 cases (44%). In these we observed urealytic germs (Proteus and Pseudomonas), without finding modifications of urinary pH. We observed no relationship between the calcium deposits and serum and urinary calcium, phosphorous and uric acid concentration.

ABSTRACT

We report on a patient with a benign retroperitoneal schwannoma whose course had been followed clinically and pathologically for 11 years. The clinical features, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of this uncommon tumor type are discussed.

ABSTRACT

We present a case of pyelorenal calcification on double-J ureteral catheter, which made endoscopic extraction impossible. We review the literature and describe the incidence, methods of diagnosis and treatment of this complication, as well as the means used to avoid it.

ABSTRACT

PIP: A case of hepatic adenoma associated with oral contraceptive (OC) use in a 34-year old housewife is described. The patient presented with transient headaches which were experienced primarily on waking in the morning and were not alleviated with common analgesics. Hypertension was observed. Arteriographs of the kidneys were normal, but a hypervascularized zone in the liver was discovered. The patient, an emotional woman who habitually took sedatives for sleep, had used Neogynon OCs for 8 years. Most other findings were normal. The patient was treated with 20 mg Apresoline and 30 drops of Hydergina/day. After the suppression of the OCs, the patient's condition was favorable, with normal blood pressure of 120/80. The tumor was removed. Radiographic films and microscopic findings are reproduced. The tumor was clinically asymptomatic and was discovered by chance during an evaluation of hypertension. Until the intervention there was no hemoperitoneum. Because of the surgical intervention it was not possible to determine whether the tumor would have regressed after discontinuation of the OCs, as sometimes reported.^ieng

ABSTRACT

A case of hemangioma in the lower pole of the right kidney is reported. Relapsing hematuria and a urographic filling defect were the principal findings. A vascular mass of thick uniform vessels with rapid shunting of contrast medium into the vein was seen in arteriography. The histologic appearance was highly dilated vessels with well-framed walls. Lower heminephrectomy was successfully performed. The main features of this rare tumor are discussed.
