ABSTRACT

Context The overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during in vitro culture of ovarian tissues impairs follicular development and survival. Aims To evaluate the effects of punicalagin on the development and survival of primordial follicles, stromal cell and collagen fibres, as well as on the levels of mRNA for nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2 ), superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1 ), catalase (CAT ), glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPX1 ) and perirredoxin 6 (PRDX6 ), and activity of antioxidant enzymes in cultured bovine ovarian tissues. Methods Bovine ovarian cortical tissues were cultured for 6days in α-MEM+ alone or with 1.0, 10.0, or 100.0µM punicalagin at 38.5°C with 5% CO2 . Follicle morphology and growth, stromal cell density, and collagen fibres were evaluated by classical histology, while the expression of mRNA was evaluated by real-time PCR. The activity of enzymes was analysed by the Bradford method. Key results Punicalagin improved follicle survival and development, reduced mRNA expression for SOD1 and CAT , but did not influence stromal cells or collagen fibres. Punicalagin (10.0µM) increased the levels of thiol and activity of SOD1, CAT , and GPX1 enzymes. Conclusions Punicalagin (10.0µM) promotes follicle survival and development and activates SOD1, CAT , and GPX1 enzymes in bovine ovarian tissues. Implications Punicalagin improves follicle development and survival in cultured ovarian tissues.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To use three-dimensional anorectal ultrasonography (3D-US) to evaluate the outcome of ligation of the intersphincteric fistula tract (LIFT) in patients with crypto-glandular transsphincteric fistula and describing the patterns of healing, failure, and recurrence rate. METHODS: After classifying the fistula and determining the length of the sphincter muscle to be transected, the patients were submitted to LIFT. The accuracy of pre- and postoperative 3D-US with 360° endoprobe (16 MHz) with automatic scanning and clinical findings was evaluated against surgical findings. Three outcomes were considered: healing, failure (persistent anal fistula through the original external opening or intersphincteric), and recurrence (reappearance of the anal fistula). RESULTS: Sixty-three patients of both sexes were evaluated. The 3D-US assessment revealed primary healing in 50 (79.3%) patients, although in 6 (9.5%) cases healing was delayed and the cavity was without communication with the anal canal. The procedure failed in 9 (15.9%) and fistula recurred in 4 (6.3%), all of whom underwent a second surgery based on a new 3D-US, resulting in a 92.3% (12/13) healing rate on 3D-US. CONCLUSIONS: A 3D-US was found to be useful in the preoperative assessment of fistulas by quantifying the percentage of muscle to be transected, and in the postoperative assessment by identifying healing, types of failure, and recurrence. The 3D-US was accurate and consistent with surgical findings.

ABSTRACT

Eutrophication has become a recurrent concern in reservoirs worldwide. This problem is intensified in tropical semiarid regions, where the reservoirs have high seasonal and annual variability of water level and volume. Therefore, an extensive understanding of the diel variation of water quality key-parameters can help improve management of such reservoirs. This study focuses on Castanhão reservoir with the largest multipurpose dam in the Brazilian semiarid. Its main water uses are irrigation, fish farming, and human supply. The reservoir faced a decline in water quality due to a prolonged drought period. While previous research has predominantly emphasized the seasonal dynamics of thermal and chemical stratification, our investigation provides diel assessments of multiple water quality parameters, including nutrient concentrations and phytoplankton abundance. Our primary objective is to compare seasonal and diel variations in stratification and nutrient distribution within the reservoir. Key findings reveal a diel cycle of thermal stratification, primarily during dry season, driven by higher wind speeds. This is corroborated by a significant negative correlation between wind speed and the relative water column stability index. In contrast, during the rainy season, the reservoir experiences continuous thermal stratification due to inflowing water being warmer than the reservoir's water temperature. Notably, a significant negative correlation between total phosphorus and chlorophyll-a, along with a two-fold increase of this nutrient throughout the day during the rainy season, underscores the influence of the phytoplankton community dynamics on the diel nutrient variation. Chemical stratification of dissolved oxygen occurred during dry and rainy seasons, indicating that even during the dry season, where there is no significant inflow, the internal nutrient loading can also significantly impact the water quality of a reservoir. This study advances the understanding of diel water quality dynamics in tropical semiarid reservoirs, shedding light on both climatic and anthropogenic influences on water resources.

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the sediment geochemistry of a fish farming area in net cage tanks in the Rosário reservoir, Brazil. Three areas were investigated: reference (RA), fish farming (FFA), and dispersion (DA). The results were analyzed through correlation, similarity, principal component analysis, comparison with legislation, sediment quality guidelines, and sediment pollution indices. The mean concentrations for RA, FFA, and DA areas were respectively: Cu (mg.kg-1) 37.74, 62.23, and 71.83; Mn (mg.kg-1) 22.55, 66.48, and 55.90; Zn (mg.kg-1) 9.13, 114.83, and 94.27; Fe (%) 0.28, 0.40, and 0.43; OM (%) 15.84, 21.95, and 18.45; TOC (%) 1.86, 3.69, and 6.05; TN (mg.kg-1) 2365.00, 5015.00, and 3447.51; TP (mg.kg-1) 780.00, 6896.00, and 2585.50; ORP (mV) -95.50, -135.20, and -127.10; pH 6.60, 6.58, and 6.05; <63 µm 90.59, 78.68, and 87.30. Statistically, the influence of fish farming on sediment, organic matter, and pollutant sedimentation was demonstrated. Cu and Zn concentrations were below sediment quality guidelines. Regarding legal limits (resolution 454/2012/CONAMA), nutrients in the FFA area exceeded by 60% (TN) and 100% (TP), while in DA and RA areas they were 100% lower. TOC was 100% lower in all areas. Organic matter exceeded the limit by 100% in all areas. Pollution indices resulted in: low contamination factor 78%; unpolluted for 87% of pollution load and 83% of combined pollution; moderately polluted for 75% of the Nemerow index. The greatest impacts and influence of farming on pollutant sedimentation were more concentrated in the fish farming area. In terms of legal aspects and pollution indices, fish farming produced low levels of trace metal pollution and nutrient concentrations exceeded legal limits.

ABSTRACT

Glicophyllum is well supported, presenting four homoplasies, easily differentiated from the other genera of the clade due to characteristics related to the reproductive organs, which can make the identification of their species difficult when they are not in the reproductive phase. Therefore, there are provided the leaf anatomical and morphological description of the leaf glands of seven species of Glicophyllum to assist in the identification of their species. The samples for the study were obtained from several national and international herbaria, sectioned freehand, stained with basic fuchsin - astra blue and compared through a binary matrix using the Sorensen's coefficient in the MVSP software. Among the leaf anatomical characters found, the following stand out: presence/absence of trichomes; petiole contour; contour of the main vein; organization of the mesophyll, presence/absence of bundle sheath extension and the surface of the glands. In this study, an identification key with leaf anatomical data is presented for the first time, demonstrating the applicability of leaf anatomy for the taxonomy of Glicophyllum. In the multivariate analysis, it is observed that the characteristics of leaf venation and topology of the glands are more representative to differentiate the taxa. Therefore, the data obtained can support future taxonomic and phylogenetic studies of the genus.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate three-dimensional facial soft tissue dimensions, maximum bite force (MBF), and occlusal contact area in patients with DFD. In addition, we analyzed the relationship between MBF and the three-dimensional facial measurements. METHODS: Thirty-two patients with skeletal Class III DFD and 20 patients with Class II DFD underwent a soft tissue evaluation using surface laser scanning, as well as MBF and occlusal contact area assessments. The DFD groups were compared with each other and with 25 healthy subjects. RESULTS: Significant morphological differences were found in the transversal, vertical, and anteroposterior dimensions between Class II DFD and Class III DFD. Both DFD groups presented an increased linear distance of chin height, which was strongly related with decreased MBF magnitude. The DFD groups exhibited lower MBF and occlusal contact area, with no significant differences between Class II and Class III DFD. CONCLUSION: The presence of DFD affected 3D measurements of facial soft tissue, causing variations beyond normal limits, lower MBF, and occlusal contact area in both Class II and Class III DFD patients. The vertical dimension might have influenced the lower MBF magnitude in the studied skeletal deformities.

ABSTRACT

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is an option for brain metastases (BM) not eligible for surgical resection, however, predictors of SRS outcomes are poorly known. The aim of this study is to investigate predictors of SRS outcome in patients with BM secondary to non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The secondary objective is to analyze the value of volumetric criteria in identifying BM progression. This retrospective cohort study included patients >18 years of age with a single untreated BM secondary to NSCLC. Demographic, clinical, and radiological data were assessed. The primary outcome was treatment failure, defined as a BM volumetric increase 12 months after SRS. The unidimensional measurement of the BM at follow-up was also assessed. One hundred thirty-five patients were included, with a median BM volume at baseline of 1.1 cm3 (IQR 0.4-2.3). Fifty-two (38.5%) patients had SRS failure at follow-up. Only right BM laterality was associated with SRS failure (p=0.039). Using the volumetric definition of SRS failure, the unidimensional criteria demonstrated a sensibility of 60.78% (46.11%-74.16%), specificity of 89.02% (80.18%-94.86%), positive LR of 5.54 (2.88-10.66) and negative LR of 0.44 (0.31-0.63). SRS demonstrated a 61.5% local control rate 12 months after treatment. Among the potential predictors of treatment outcome analyzed, only the right BM laterality had a significant association with SRS failure. The volumetric criteria were able to identify more subtle signs of BM increase than the unidimensional criteria, which may allow earlier diagnosis of disease progression and use of appropriate therapies.

ABSTRACT

A new species of Jeremia Redtenbacher (Phasmatodea: Phasmatidae: Cladomorphinae) is described based on both male and female specimens from the northern Brazilian Amazon Basin and named Jeremia megaplax sp. nov. The new species can be differentiated from other species of this genus by the length of the female subgenital plate, which is two times longer than the length of tergites 810. Photos and description from subadult male and not fully developed eggs are also provided. The studied material is deposited at the Invertebrate Collection of the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amaznia (INPA).

ABSTRACT

Resumo O artigo tem como objetivo refletir sobre a importância da formação humana em perspectiva hermenêutica-dialógica para a prática dos profissionais da saúde, para sua formação e para a promoção de saúde. Nesse sentido, forma coro com produções que se posicionam favoravelmente à compreensão de que a prática, a formação e a promoção da saúde devem estar ancoradas também no paradigma das humanidades médicas. Metodologicamente, trata-se de revisão bibliográfica ancorada no trabalho hermenêutico com textos clássicos do filósofo alemão Hans-Georg Gadamer sobre a saúde e com literatura secundária sobre o tema. Divide-se em três partes. Na primeira, analisa a medicina e algumas de suas concepções sobre saúde e doença ao longo da história, observando as transformações sofridas na passagem de ciência médica mais ampla, fundada na religião e na espiritualidade, para a predominância do paradigma técnico-científico. Na segunda, são realizadas delimitações sobre alguns conceitos essenciais para a compreensão da importância da formação humana para o profissional da saúde. Na parte final, é investigada uma ideia de formação humana sustentada pela perspectiva hermenêutica-dialógica. Conclui afirmando a importância de que o saber técnico especializado na área da saúde se deixe ancorar pelo saber prático, de cunho ético-formativo, alicerçado na noção hermenêutica de diálogo.


Abstract The article aims to reflect on the importance of human education in a hermeneutic-dialogical perspective for the practice of health professionals, their training and health promotion. In this sense, it forms a chorus with productions favorable to the understanding that practice, training, and health promotion must also be anchored in the paradigm of the medical humanities. Methodologically, it is a literature review anchored in a hermeneutical work with classic texts by the German philosopher Hans-Georg Gadamer on health and secondary literature on the subject. It is divided into three parts. The first analyzes medicine and some of its conceptions about health and disease throughout history, observing the transformations from a broader medical science, founded on religion and spirituality, to the predominance of the technical-scientific paradigm. In the second, delimitations are carried out on some essential concepts for understanding the importance of human education for the health professional. In the final part, an idea of human education supported by the hermeneutic-dialogical perspective is investigated. It concludes by affirming the importance that the specialized technical knowledge in the health area should be anchored by practical knowledge, of an ethical-formative nature, based on the hermeneutic notion of dialogue.

ABSTRACT

Heliotropium elongatum is used to treat inflammation, cough, and flu. This study aimed to characterize the phytochemical profile and determine the total phenolic content (TPC), antioxidant and cytogenotoxic activity of the ethanolic extract (EE), and fractions of H. elongatum leaves. In the phytochemical profile analysis, organic acids, reducing sugars, flavonoids, saponins, anthraquinones, steroids/triterpenes, and depsides/depsidones were detected in the EE and/or fractions (hexanic/FH, chloroformic/FC, ethyl acetate/FAE, and hydromethanolic/FHM). The highest TPC and highest antioxidant activity (DPPH and ABTS) was detected in FHM. In FH, 16 compounds were identified by GC-MS, and ursolic acid was isolated by 1H NMR and 13C NMR. HPLC-DAD from EE, FAE, and FHM demonstrated characteristic wavelengths for flavonoids, flavonols, flavones, and anthraquinones. ESI-IT/MSn analysis of EE, FC, FAE, and FHM revealed alkaloids, steroids, terpenoids, flavonoids, and phenolic acids. In Allium cepa assay there was no significant cytotoxic effect initiated by EE (62.5 to 1,000 µg/ml), FHM (1,000 µg/ml), and FAE (62.5 µg/ml). Genotoxicity was evidenced only with EE at 500 and 1,000 µg/ml, and FHM (62.5 to 1,000 µg/ml) as evidenced by presence of micronuclei (MN) and nuclear buds (NB). Our results identified compounds of medicinal interest with antioxidant activity; however observed cytogenotoxic changes indicated the need for caution when using these compounds for therapeutic purposes.

Objetivo: Identificar as evidências cientificas acerca da associação da covid-19 e o desenvolvimento de pré-eclâmpsia. Método: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa, realizada em abril de 2022, mediante acesso às bases de dados: Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) e Portal Regional da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS). A partir da utilização dos descritores em saúde: Gestantes, Pré-eclâmpsia e COVID-19. Resultados: Foram incluídos 15 estudos na síntese avaliativa, onde 13 foram provenientes da PubMed (86,6%) e 02 da BVS (13,3%). Quanto ao desenho, seis (40%) estudos foram do tipo relato ou estudo de caso, cinco (33,3%) do tipo revisão sistemática, com destaque para três revisões com meta-análise, dois (13,3%) se tratou estudos observacionais, um (6,6%) estudo descritivo e um (6,6%) estudo de coorte. Conclusão: Foram identificados estudos que associaram o desenvolvimento da pré-eclâmpsia à infecção causada pelo Covid-19, no entanto, outros estudos destacam a detecção de uma síndrome semelhante a pré-eclâmpsia, destacando a necessidade da realização de um diagnóstico diferencial.(AU)


Objective: To identify the scientific evidence on the association between covid-19 and the development of pre-eclampsia. Method: This is an integrative review, carried out in April 2022, through access to the databases: Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) and Regional Portal of the Virtual Health Library (VHL). Using the health descriptors: Pregnant women, Pre-eclampsia and COVID-19. Results: 15 studies were included in the evaluation synthesis, of which 13 came from PubMed (86.6%) and 02 from the VHL (13.3%). In terms of design, six (40%) studies were of the case report or study type, five (33.3%) were of the systematic review type, with emphasis on three reviews with meta-analysis, two (13.3%) were observational studies, one (6.6%) was a descriptive study and one (6.6%) was a cohort study. Conclusion: Studies were identified that associated the development of pre-eclampsia with infection caused by Covid-19, however, other studies highlight the detection of a syndrome similar to pre-eclampsia, highlighting the need for a differential diagnosis.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: Mapear as evidências científicas relacionadas aos fatores que influenciam na adesão de idosos a vacina COVID-19. Método: Revisão de escopo realizada em novembro de 2021, nas seguintes bases de dados: Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE via PubMed®), Excerpta Medica Data Base (Embase) via Elsevier; Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) Web of Knwedge (Web of Science); Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) e Índice Bibliográfico Español em Ciencias de la Salud (IBECS). Resultados e Discussão: Houve 10 publicações atenderam aos critérios de inclusão. Dentre os fatores identificados para maior hesitação frente à vacina contra COVID-19 destacaram-se o desconhecimento, baixo nível educacional, preocupação com efeitos colaterais e a segurança das vacinas, subestimação do risco de infecção após o recebimento da primeira dose da vacina, situação econômica desfavorável, pouco acesso à internet e tecnologias, entre outros fatores. Conclusão: Conhecer os fatores que causam hesitação entre os idosos com relação à vacina contra COVID-19 e os adjuvantes na luta contra a doença, para que haja um melhor direcionamento das ações no intuito de melhorar a cobertura vacinal e enfrentamento da covid19.(AU)


Objective: To map the scientific evidence related to the factors that influence the adherence of older adults to the COVID-19 vaccine. Method: Scoping review carried out in November 2021, in the following databases: Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE via PubMed®), Excerpta Medica Data Base (Embase) via Elsevier; Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) Web of Knwedge (Web of Science); Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS) and Spanish Bibliographic Index in Health Sciences (IBECS). Results and Discussion: 10 publications met the inclusion criteria. Among the factors identified for greater hesitancy towards the COVID-19 vaccine were lack of knowledge, low educational level, concern about side effects and vaccine safety, underestimation of the risk of infection after receiving the first dose of the vaccine, unfavorable economic situation, little access to the internet and technologies, among other factors. Conclusion: Knowing the factors that cause hesitation among the elderly in relation to the COVID-19 vaccine and the adjuvants in the fight against the disease, so that there is a better targeting of actions in order to improve vaccination coverage and coping with covid19.(AU)


Objetivo: Mapear la evidencia científica relacionada con los factores que influyen en la adherencia de los adultos mayores a la vacuna COVID-19. Método: Revisión de alcance realizada en noviembre de 2021, en las siguientes bases de datos: Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE vía PubMed®), Excerpta Medica Data Base (Embase) vía Elsevier; Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) Web of Knwedge (Web of Science); Literatura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud (LILACS) e Índice Bibliográfico Español en Ciencias de la Salud (IBECS). Resultados y Discusión: 10 publicaciones cumplieron los criterios de inclusión. Entre los factores identificados para una mayor indecisión hacia la vacuna COVID-19 se encuentran el desconocimiento, el bajo nivel educativo, la preocupación por los efectos secundarios y la seguridad de la vacuna, la subestimación del riesgo de infección tras recibir la primera dosis de la vacuna, la situación económica desfavorable, el escaso acceso a internet y a las tecnologías, entre otros factores. Conclusión: Conocer los factores que causan dudas entre los ancianos en relación a la vacuna COVID-19 y los adyuvantes en la lucha contra la enfermedad, para que las acciones puedan ser mejor dirigidas para mejorar la cobertura vacunal y hacer frente a la COVID-19.(AU)

Objetivo: Identificar as evidências científicas sobre os benefícios do uso da bola suíça em gestantes na assistência ao parto de baixo risco. Métodos: Revisão integrativa da literatura, realizada nas bases de dados Medline/PubMed, LILACS via BVS e biblioteca Scielo para responder à questão norteadora: Quais os benefícios do uso da bola suíça em gestantes na assistência ao parto de baixo risco? As buscas ocorreram entre março e abril de 2022, utilizando os descritores "gestantes", "terapia por exercício", "trabalho de parto", "parto normal". Após os cruzamentos desses descritores, identificaram-se 230 artigos, que ao aplicar os critérios de elegibilidade, restaram dez estudos, avaliados e elegíveis para a revisão. Na extração dos dados elaborou-se um instrumento para coleta. Resultados: 10 estudos foram elegíveis após seleção. Destes, a maior parte (8) desenvolvidos no Brasil (1) China e (1) em Taiwan. O periódico de maior frequência das publicações foi Acta Paulista de Enfermagem (3). Quanto ao ano de publicação o ano com menos publicações foi 2012 (1), seguido 2013 (2), 2019 (2). Quanto ao delineamento o tipo ensaio clinico prevaleceu nas publicações (5). Conclusão: esta revisão aponta benefícios do uso da bola suíça como instrumento de trabalho que pode favorecer a assistência ao parto de baixo risco evidenciando ser uma alternativa viável para profissionais nesse campo de atuação.(AU)


To identify the scientific evidence on the benefits of using the Swiss ball in pregnant women in low-risk childbirth care. Methods: Integrative literature review, carried out in Medline/PubMed, LILACS via VHL and Scielo library databases to answer the guiding question: What are the benefits of using the Swiss ball in pregnant women in low-risk childbirth care? The searches took place between March and April 2022, using the descriptors "pregnant women", "exercise therapy", "labor", "normal delivery". After crossing these descriptors, 230 articles were identified, which, when applying the eligibility criteria, left ten studies, evaluated and eligible for the review. In the data extraction, a collection instrument was elaborated. Results: 10 studies were eligible after selection. Of these, most (8) developed in Brazil (1) China and (1) Taiwan. The journal with the highest frequency of publications was Acta Paulista de Enfermagem (3). As for the year of publication, the year with the fewest publications was 2012 (1), followed by 2013 (2), 2019 (2). As for the design, the clinical trial type prevailed in the publications (5). Conclusion: this review points out the benefits of using the Swiss ball as a work tool that can favor low-risk childbirth care, showing that it is a viable alternative for professionals in this field.(AU)

ABSTRACT

The Internet of Things (IoT) introduces significant security vulnerabilities, raising concerns about cyber-attacks. Attackers exploit these vulnerabilities to launch distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, compromising availability and causing financial damage to digital infrastructure. This study focuses on mitigating DDoS attacks in corporate local networks by developing a model that operates closer to the attack source. The model utilizes Host Intrusion Detection Systems (HIDS) to identify anomalous behaviors in IoT devices and employs network-based intrusion detection approaches through a Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) for comprehensive attack identification. Additionally, a Host Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (HIDPS) is implemented in a fog computing infrastructure for real-time and precise attack detection. The proposed model integrates NIDS with federated learning, allowing devices to locally analyze their data and contribute to the detection of anomalous traffic. The distributed architecture enhances security by preventing volumetric attack traffic from reaching internet service providers and destination servers. This research contributes to the advancement of cybersecurity in local network environments and strengthens the protection of IoT networks against malicious traffic. This work highlights the efficiency of using a federated training and detection procedure through deep learning to minimize the impact of a single point of failure (SPOF) and reduce the workload of each device, thus achieving accuracy of 89.753% during detection and increasing privacy issues in a decentralized IoT infrastructure with a near-real-time detection and mitigation system.

ABSTRACT

High phosphate concentrations in natural waters are associated with eutrophication problems that negatively affect the fauna and flora of ecosystems. As an alternative solution to this problem, we evaluated the adsorptive capacity of the fruit peel ash (PPA) of Caryocar coriaceum Wittm and its efficiency in removing phosphate (PO43-) from aqueous solutions. PPA was produced under an oxidative atmosphere and calcinated at 500 °C. The XRF and EDS analyses of PPA after contact with an aqueous PO43- solution showed an increase in its PO43- content, thus confirming the adsorption of PO43-. The Elovich and Langmuir models are the ones fitting the kinetics and the equilibrium state of the process, respectively. The highest PO43- adsorption capacity was approximately 79.50 mg g-1 at 10 °C. PO43- adsorption by PPA is a spontaneous, favorable, and endothermic process involving structural changes. The highest removal efficiency was 97.08% using a 100 mg.L-1 PO43- solution. In sight of this, PPA has shown potential as an excellent natural bioadsorbent.

ABSTRACT

The cashew peduncle has a high nutritional value and contains a wide variety of phenolic compounds. Among these, anacardic acids (AnAc) are biologically active components; however, they influence the cashew juice flavor and, consequently, its acceptance. This study validates a high-performance liquid chromatography method for quantifying the AnAc present in cashew peduncles, using a C18 reverse-phase column and a diode-array detector. The calibration curve obtained showed satisfactory precision for intraday (CV = 0.20%) and interday (CV = 0.29%) quantification, linearity (y = 2333.5x + 2956.2; r2 = 0.9979), repeatability with respect to retention time (CV = 0.45%) and area (CV = 0.30%), and selectivity, and possessed detection and quantification limits of 0.18 and 0.85 µg·mL-1, respectively. Different cashew clones containing AnAc were extracted and analyzed using the proposed method. A recovery of >90% was achieved using two sequential extractions. The total AnAc content ranged from 128.35 to 217.00 mg·100 g-1 in peduncle samples obtained from five different cashew clones.

ABSTRACT

The aim was to evaluate the effect of the inclusion of wheat bulgur in the diet on intake, digestibility, N balance and ruminal parameters in cannulated lambs. Four castrated Santa Ines×Dorper lambs, cannulated in the rumen, (45 ± 9 kg) were housed in metabolism crates. They were randomly distributed in a 4×4 Latin Square,10-day adaption, a 6-day sampling period. The base diet was composed by ryegrass hay and concentrate, in a 40:60 roughage:concentrate ratio and four inclusions of wheat bulgur on the total diet: 0, 190, 380 and 570 g/kg dry matter. The inclusion of wheat bulgur did not affect the intake of non-structural carbohydrates. The intake of dry matter, fiber, crude protein, organic matter and crude fat decreased linearly (P<0.05). The digestibility of neutral detergent fiber decreased linearly (P=0.001). The N retained and the excreted in urine were not affected by wheat bulgur inclusion. Fecal excretion, total excretion and absorbed N, decreased linearly (P<0.05). There was no change on pH, ammonia, soluble carbohydrates and protozoa population in rumen. Increasing of wheat bulgur in the diet of lambs decrease the nutrient intake and fiber digestibility without affecting the digestibility of other compounds, ruminal parameters, and the protozoa count.
