ABSTRACT

The porpose of this study was to compare the effects of two kinds of stretching-passive, static stretching and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNP), in patients with leprosy sequel. Twelve patients were randomly assigned into two groups: the PNF group, that was submitted to static stretching...

ABSTRACT

This study is based on two cases of surgical repair for Achilles tendon and physical therapy treatment later, aiming to aid in the healing process, to reduce fibrosis in the site, to increase the range of motion, to strength the enrolled muscle, to restore the propriception and patients returning to their activities before the lesion. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of physical therapy treatment after the Achilles tendon tenorrhaphy. The patients were submitted to surgical treatment (tenorrhaphy) after the lesion, and after immobilization they began physical therapy treatment with cryotherapy, laser, ultrasound, oblique massage and kinesitheraphy in UNIOESTE’s Physical Therapy Clinic – PR, during five months, and data of the goniometry and the muscular strength of these patients were analyzed. It was observed an improvement in the range of motion and in the muscular strength of the patients and they were able to run, to ascend and to descend stairs and ramp without pain. We concluded that the results with patients after surgical repair for Achilles tendon suggest that physical therapy treatment was able to promote patients returning to their activities before the lesion.
