ABSTRACT

In the period of August 1995 to January 1996 samples of beef and pork completed by raw sausages, were tested for enterohaemorrhagic strains of Escherichia coli. Samples were taken in a meat-processing company after mincing and cooling, delivered to the microbiological laboratory. All investigated meat originated from slaughterhouses which are EU-certified. In this study we found in no case enterohaemorrhagic strains of E. coli. Colony forming units were in the test 10(5)/g meat in average.

ABSTRACT

This is a survey of textile-technical requirements, of quality controls, of the hygiene certificate as well as of the relevant valid legal provisions, regulations and directions. The test-list for works inspection is quoted. The hygienic-bacteriological control methods as well as the checking methods are described by means of selected examples.

ABSTRACT

In order to test the potential biological activity of 18-substituted progesterones, 3,20-dioxo-4-pregene-18-carbonitrile (ld approximately) was converted to 3,20-dioxo-4-pregnene-18-carboxylic acid (lb approximately) and methyl 3,20-dioxo-4-pregnene-18-carboxylate (ld approximately) via a sequence of reactions involving an intramolecular hydrolysis of the 18--arbonitrile. Lithium aluminum hydride reduction of the bisethylene ketal derived from la approximately furnished 18-aminomethyl-5-pregnene-3,20-dione 3,20-bisethylene ketal (8 approximately). Acetylation and hydrolysis furnished 18-acetamidomethyl-4-pregnene-3,20-dione (lf approximately) and simple hydrolysis of 8 approximately furnished 3'alpha H-5' 6'-dihydro-2',19 beta-dimethyl-3-oxo-4-goneno [13,17-c]pyridine (9 approximately). None of the compounds exhibited any activity in Clauberg or anti-Clauberg tests.

ABSTRACT

The present stage of our studies suggests that, provided a highly effective combined therapy is, and can be, carried out correctly, all excreters can be cured of their chronic carrier state by chemotherapy within 8-12 weeks. Although we cannot recommend a universal therapeutic regimen for all patients, a highly effective 'basic therapy' (RMP+TSP) is available for the majority of the cases, needing occasional modification, depending on the specific requirements of the individual patient as shown by the result of the serum activity determination. This method saves the patient from toxic inconveniences caused by inadequate treatment, it shortens the treatment time and makes cholecystectomy superfluous - unless it is considered necessary out of a different indication in which case it should certainly be done. We cannot share the often expressed view that Salmonella enteritidis excreters cannot be cured, a view which is found even in the most recent manuals. The same applies to the view that therapy is not necessary because it would delay cure. It is indispensable to establish a close cooperation between the public health authorities and the private physician, and we therefore wish to sincerely thank all colleagues and Public Health Officers for their collaboration.
