ABSTRACT

The effects of hydrogen sulfide baths and sulfide-silt mud applications on the abdominal wall were studied in outbred white rats. Heart preparations stained with hematoxylin and eosin were analyzed and the mean numbers of cells expressing Ki-67, Nkx-2.5, and mesenchymal stem cell markers were determined. Hydrogen sulfide balneotherapy promoted the development of blood capillaries in rat hearts and an increased the expression of CD34. A decrease in the regenerative potential of the myocardium was found due to a decrease in the content of proliferating cells and cells expressing CD73, CD90, and CD105, and also due to the absence of cells stained for cardiomyogenic differentiation marker Nkx-2.5.

ABSTRACT

Candida lesion of Palatine tonsils was studied in 32 HIV-infected patients in the late stages of the disease using histological and cytological methods. There were used conventional methods during pathomorphological studies of palatine tonsils tissue fragments obtained by biopsy, and smears from the surface of the organ. It was found that micromycetes Candida spp. were located in association with various bacteria (mainly Streptococcus spp.), as well as Cryptococcus spp., with the formation of the biofilms, both on the surface of the Palatine tonsils and in the depth of their parenchyma. We revealed the minimal response cellular protective reaction to the deep introduction of the pathogen. Mycosis proceeded against the background of pronounced follicular lymphoid depletion of the tissue of the Palatine tonsils. The examined patients represent a risk group for invasion of Candida micromycetes into the vascular channel and their dissemination with the development of generalized candidiasis.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: The aim of our study was to investigate associations between the lipid profile, liver condition and the level of BMI. Methods: Our sample consisted of 58 patients: 30 - with morbid obesity and BMI - 40-49 (1 group), 28 - with superobesity, BMI - 50-69 (2 group). Lipids and hepatic functional tests were measured just prior to surgery. Ultrasound examination was used to estimate liver condition. Liver biopsy specimens were obtained at the time of surgery, classified according to the nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and steatohepatitis activity score. Results: Lower level of cholesterol has been found in the first group with morbid obesity. Higher level of triglycerides and very low-density lipoprotein has been found in the second group with superobesity (р=0,000 ANOVA). High-density lipoprotein was normal but significantly associated with BMI. The level of low-density lipoprotein was higher in the second group, but the difference between ptoups was not significant. BMI was associated with higher scores of ultrasonographic parameters and severity of steatosis, the increased prevalence of steatohepatitis and it activity. We also realized the positive correlation between ultrasonographic parameters and histological features. Conclusion: BMI has significantly positive correlations with the level of triglycerides and very low-density lipoprotein, ultrasonographic parameters, histological features of steatosis and steatohepatitis. The level of total cholesterol did not reflect all changes of lipid profile.

ABSTRACT

The morphology of neoangiogenesis in breast carcinoma tissue is considered as a relationship between the density of the tumor vascular bed and different indices (age, histological type of a tumor, stage of the disease, tumor anaplastic proliferative activity, fibrosis degree, stromal cellularity, and parenchymal destructive changes).

ABSTRACT

377 patients aged 30 to 79 years who had breast carcinoma were examined to study the age-related features of tumor anaplasia. The degree of tumor anaplasia was studied, in primary nodules, less and more than 2.5 cm in diameter in patients of different ages. This index decreased with age. This may explain more a malignant course of the disease in young patients.

ABSTRACT

The electric conductivity of the hepatic bile received during and 24 hours after surgery from the drainage introduced into the common hepatic duct was studied in 94 patients with cholelithiasis. It is demonstrated that conductivity increases in cholestasis, inflammatory process in the biliary tract and depends on the hepatic morphofunctional status. The specific electric conductivity of intraoperative bile that is more than 192 S/m is considered to be criteria for the diagnosis of cholangitis. The electric conductivity of urine before and in first 4 days after surgery decreases in inflammation of the biliary tract and depends on the degree of concomitant renal dysfunction and electrolyte disturbances. There was a decrease in the conductivity of bile and urine in all studied groups. Detection of biophysical parameters of biological fluids may objectively control the postoperative period and correct treatment policy.

ABSTRACT

An autopsy observation of viral cirrhosis of the liver is presented. Along with the clinical data, morphological diagnosis of viral cirrhosis of the liver one should take into account not only the nature of cirrhosis (macronodular surface, multilobular structure of regenerative nodes, wide fibrous septae and lymphohistiocyte infiltration, Councilman bodies, "frosted vitreous" hepatocytes, mature lipofuscin in hepatocytes) but also the possibility of detecting HBsAg in paraffin sections of the liver stained with orseine and aldehydethionine.

ABSTRACT

From the literature and their own observations the authors present morphological criteria of acute viral hepatitis which may be used for differential diagnosis from hepatites of other etiology (toxic, drug). Examinations of liver biopsies from patients with viral hepatitis permit to establish the stage of the disease and to predict its possible outcomes.
