ABSTRACT

Bacillus cereus strain F, collected from relict permafrost located in Siberia, was analyzed for probiotic activity in the mouse Salmonella enterica model. Viable bacterial cells were found in frozen soils taken at Mammoth Mountain in Yakutia from a depth below the level of seasonal thawing. Geological data indicated the absence of a thawing within millions of years of deposited soils, which helped to ensure the ancient origin of our sample. According to DNA analysis, bacterial cells collected from the relict permafrost appeared to be B. cereus strain F. The morphology of these bacteria was analyzed using atomic force microscopy. B. cereus strain F was assessed as a nonpathogenic bacterium by evaluation of its pathogenicity. A S. enterica model is described in mice after per oral inoculation and serves as a model for the human carrier state. Using this model, probiotic activity by the bacterial strain isolated from the ancient permafrost has been shown against Salmonella infection in mice.

ABSTRACT

A system of two vectors, pEnLox and pCre. was developed. The pEnLox vector is used to induce insertional mutations, while pCre is used to obtain transgenic plants expressing the Cre recombinase gene. The T-DNA enhancer is flanked by the loxP sites in the pEnLox vector. As an Arahidopsis thaliana insertional mutant obtained by transformation with pEnLox is crossed with another transgenic line carrying the cre gene. the enhancer sequence is eliminated. The vector system makes it possible to induce insertional mutations and to determine whether the mutant phenotype is caused by the loss-of-function insertional mutation or by overespression of nearby genes in response to the enhancer contained in the insert.

ABSTRACT

A method preventing a contact of the intestinal content and bile with the wound surface of the stump and pancreatic juice in the pancreatic ducts was proposed in order to prevent reflux of the infected intestinal content in the ducts of the pancreas. The work was fulfilled in experiment and in clinic. The article is well illustrated and recommended for publication as having a scientific and practical value.

ABSTRACT

The method of surgical treatment of postbulbar ulcers of the duodenum based on the data of their localization, complications, functional state of the stomach and duodenum, technical skills of the surgeon includes radical ablation of the ulcer, reestablishment of the gastroduodenal continuity with the formation of the functionally active anastomosis or selective proximal vagotomy. The method allows to considerably lessen the amount of complications at the early postoperative period and to obtain good functional results at late terms of observations.
