ABSTRACT

In this study, the venous drainage patterns of white New Zealand rabbits' peripheral nerves were examined in an effort to provide an animal model for studies focusing on the venous drainage of the healing nerves. Extremities of rabbits sacrificed via intraarterial lead oxide-gelatin solution, and thus had their peripheral bloods pushed out of the arteries and into the veins were dissected for the venous drainage of radial, median, ulnar, femoral, sciatic, tibial and fibular nerves. The observations revealed that white New Zealand rabbit was a feasible model due to its consistent venous anatomy draining the major nerves and accessibility and workability of them. Of those dissected, the most suitable set of nerves suitable for such studies seem to be the Median nerve of the anterior extremity, and Sciatic nerve of the posterior extremity (Fig. 12, Ref. 16). ABSTRACT

The vascularization of the cranial cervical ganglion [superior cervical ganglion (SCG)] of 10 adult guinea-pigs (Cavia porcellus) was investigated by latex injection and dissection techniques. Compared with other species, there were differences in the arterial supply of SCG and in the number of branches originating from these vessels. The SCG received arterial blood from branches of the ascending pharyngeal and internal carotid arteries. In addition, it was demonstrated that the superior thyroid and occipital arteries contribute rarely to the vascularization of the SCG.

ABSTRACT

Eight female New Zealand rabbits were used. The bulbus oculi was removed bilaterally from orbita then intraorbital muscles were revealed by dissection and their length and breadth and the distance of the muscle insertion to the corneal limbus were measured. Junction formations of the insertion tendon of intraorbital muscle to the sclera were identified.

ABSTRACT

This study has been conducted on the knee joints of the New Zealand rabbits. A total of 20 knee joints from 10 (five female, five male) adult New Zealand rabbits were studied in the study. Fourteen ligaments and four sesamoid bones including the patellar bone, the infrapatellar adipose body, and the suprapatellar cartilage specifically present in rabbits were grossly observed. The caudal meniscotibial ligaments of the lateral meniscus were noted to be lacking in these rabbits. Moreover, the medial collateral ligament did not have a capsular character in nature. Thus, adipose tissue was determined at a point where the suprapatellar cartilage and patella fused.

ABSTRACT

Bovine tactile hairs in skin samples from the lateral side of the upper lip were examined using scanning electron and light microscopy. The root of these hairs has a variable length and is surrounded by a large sinus located between the internal and the external dermal sheath. With a prominent thickness, the external dermal sheath forms the external wall of the tactile hair and contains many nerves some of which extend into trabeculae. Trabeculae projecting from the internal dermal sheath and attaching to the external dermal sheath with two or more branches are present in the entire sinus. The trabeculae are interconnected by connective tissue sheets that support the integrity of the trabecular organization. The sinus surfaces as well as trabeculae are lined by endothelia. As a result, the bovine tactile hair is truly a cavernous type of tactile hair with a well organized microscopic anatomy. Thus, the bovine tactile hair most likely plays an important role in relatively immobile and insensitive bovine lips.

ABSTRACT

Arterial vascularisation of the ovine pineal gland was investigated by latex injection preparations of the common carotid artery in 20 adult Akkaraman sheep brains under stereo light microscope. It was observed that the arterial supply comes exclusively from branches of the caudal cerebral artery. The pineal gland was found to contain a rich vascular network. This network also received a few branches from the caudal choroid rami.

ABSTRACT

This study reports an anatomical study of the vascular supply in 20 Akkaraman sheep cerebelli from adult subjects of both sexes. The origin and branching pattern of the cerebellar artery vascularising the cerebellar nuclei were studied by gross dissection and vascular injection. Then dissection was performed and vessels nourishing the cerebellar nuclei were documented. Four bilaterally symmetrical cerebellar nuclei were determined as nucleus lateralis cerebelli, nucleus interpositus lateralis cerebelli, and nucleus interpositus medialis cerebelli and nucleus fastigii from lateral to medial side. It has been previously confirmed that vascularisation of the cerebellar nuclei is carried out by intermediary branches of the rostral cerebellar artery and the caudal cerebellar artery. However, this study has confirmed that the caudal cerebellar artery has no contribution in the vascularisation of the cerebellar nuclei.

ABSTRACT

A double aortic arch is described in an 8-week-old female Siamese cat. In this case a vascular ring anomaly consistent with a double aortic arch is described in a cat. Stridor and dysphagia were noted in the cat. Radiography showed an esophageal dilation, with constriction at the fifth intercostal space. At necropsy, the esophagus and trachea were constricted at the base of the heart. The cause of the constriction of both the esophagus and trachea was a vascular ring formed by well-developed right and left aortic arches. The ascending aorta divided into two asymmetrical arches. The right aortic arch was larger than the left. The origin of the major arteries from the aortic arches were anomalous.
