ABSTRACT

The paper analyzes the treatment made in 110 children with tuberculosis and non-specific lung diseases (NSLD) and in 52 control children without concurrent tuberculous pathology in sanatoria and health resorts. Evolving local tuberculosis was observed in 11.9% of the children with concurrent diseases and infection and an exacerbation of tuberculous process was seen in 26.5%. Failures in the treatment are accounted for not only by the aggravating impact of NSLD, but by physicians' poor attention to comorbidity.

ABSTRACT

The paper presents the findings of a comparative study of the efficacy of chemoprophylaxis which was conducted by the everyday (1 course) and intermittent (2 courses) method in adolescents aged 12-17 years, depending on the presence of aggravating factors. Examination covered 150 adolescents from the VI registration group. Following chemoprophylaxis there was a drop in sensitivity to tuberculin in 95.5 +/- 0.8% of group 1 (main) and in 78.5 +/- 1.1% of group 2 cases during which a medium size of an infiltrate in group 1 reduced by 2.8 mm more than that in group 2 (p less than 0.001). After the end of an observation period, 92.4 +/- 0.8% of subjects of group 1 and 79.4 +/- 0.5% of subjects of group 2 were struck off the register from the VIA registration group; the respective figures for the VIB registration group were 73.2 +/- 0.2% and 58.6 +/- 3%. The epidemiologic and economic effect of chemoprophylaxis conducted by 2 courses was 2 and 1.5 times higher than that in the traditional method.

ABSTRACT

It has been possible to achieve cavity closure earlier than usual in 162 patients aged from 15 to 25 years with newly discovered pulmonary tuberculosis by combining an intensive chemotherapy with early and differential administration of levamisole, tuberculin, intraorganic electrophoresis and ultrasound. Immunologic examination of the patients upon their admission to a hospital and in the course of their treatment made it possible to exercise a differential approach to the administration of pathogenetic drugs. The use of the immunostimulators, like levamisole in the first months of treatment and tuberculin at the second stage of therapy, significantly enhances the efficacy of chemotherapy.
