ABSTRACT

Quantitative and qualitative alterations in content of phospholipids were studied in erythrocytes of rats with alloxan diabetes: rate of lipid peroxidation and content of L-tocopherol were estimated in blood plasma before and after the antioxidant therapy. Patterns of lipid metabolism were normalized after the course of treatment involving simultaneous administration of L-tocopherol and ascorbic acid within 10-15 days. The antioxidants used decreased the rate of lipid peroxidation in erythrocyte membranes and stimulated biosynthesis of phospholipids de novo. Role of antioxidants in phospholipid metabolism is discussed.

ABSTRACT

The changes in the content of phospholipids (PL), cholesterol (cr) and its fractions were studied in the processes of lipid peroxidation. At the different periods of alloxan diabetes development the CS/LP ratio coefficient was determined (7, 14, 21 days). The results of our investigations we explain by erythrocyte membranes destruction in the molecular mechanism of which the significant role has played the activation of free radical lipid oxidation processes.

ABSTRACT

The contents of Cu, Zn-superoxide dismutase and catalase isolated and purified from the rat liver at the terminal stages of alloxan diabetes were decreased by 40% and 15%, respectively, as compared to the control. It can be concluded that the decrease in superoxide dismutase and catalase activity in experimental alloxan diabetes is mainly connected with the decline in the content of these proteins at the terminal stages of the disease, this, probably, being the result of DNA degradation and RNA transport disturbances under the effect of oxygen active forms.
