ABSTRACT

The ¹77Lu-[tris(1,10-phenanthroline)lutetium(III)] complex (¹77Lu-PQ3) was prepared successfully with high radiochemical purity (> 99%). Lu-177 chloride was obtained by thermal neutron flux (4 × 10¹³ n.cm⁻².s⁻¹) of natural Lu2(NO3)3 sample, dissolved in acidic media. The radiochemical yield was checked by measuring the radiochemical purity of the (177)Lu-PQ complex by ITLC (10 mM DTPA, pH = 5, as mobile phase). The final complex solution was injected intravenously into wild-type male rats and bio-distribution of the complex was checked for up to 48 hours. The dose limiting organs were shown to be the reticulu-endothelial system. The bio-distribution of the labelled compounds in tumour-bearing animals is under investigation.

ABSTRACT

In the present work, results of γ-irradiation on normal and functionalized SBA-15 by aurintricarboxylic acid have been reported. Characterization of normal and functionalized SBA-15 particles before and after γ-irradiation was carried out using Fourier-transform infrared technique. Aurintricarboxylic acid ligand connected to SBA-15 was also analyzed using UV/Vis spectrophotometer. The modified sorbent was then used as a new sorbent for separation of trace amounts of praseodymium and lutetium ions from nuclear waste waters in batch techniques. Based on the results of distribution coefficients determination, and investigation of sorption process in various conditions, the parameters were optimized for separation lanthanides. It can be concluded that the functionalized SBA-15 is a promising sorbent for praseodymium and lutetium cations.

ABSTRACT

(99m)Tc can be produced from (99)Mo/(99m)Tc gel generators. These gels are part of the generator and the (99)Mo/(99m)Tc gel generator performance is directly related with gel structure. In this work a series of zirconium molybdate gels have been synthesized and dried under different conditions and characterized using thermal analysis (TGA, DTA), SEM, XRD and porosity measurements. It is found that the water content of the gel determines the structure porosity which allows the diffusion of the (99m)TcO(4)(-) ions inside the gel and was directly connected with performance of the (99)Mo/(99m)Tc gel generators. Drying conditions of the gel is as an important factor that influence water content and physical-chemical properties of this gel and must be carefully studied to optimize the properties of the gel generators.

ABSTRACT

A new method based on adaptive linear neuron (Adaline) is used to estimate the radon concentration in soil associated with the environmental parameters. Analysis of the data obtained from a site in Thailand indicates that our proposed method is able to differentiate temporal variation of radon concentration related to the environmental parameters from those caused by phenomena in the earth (e.g. earthquake). The result also shows agreement between our method and another method based on impulse responses from multivariable time series (complex mathematical equations).

ABSTRACT

A layered neural network (LNN) has been employed to estimate the radon concentration in soil related to the environmental parameters. This technique can find any functional relationship between the radon concentration and the environmental parameters. Analysis of the data obtained from a site in Thailand indicates that this approach is able to differentiate time variation of radon concentration caused by environmental parameters from those arising by anomaly phenomena in the earth (e.g. earthquake). This method is compared with a linear computational technique based on impulse responses from multivariable time series. It is indicated that the proposed method can give a better estimation of radon variations related to environmental parameters that may have a non-linear effect on the radon concentration in soil, such as rainfall.

ABSTRACT

Separation of 131I from natural uranium fission product mixtures has been accomplished by sorbing the 131I on special platinum-charcoal sorbent and desorbing by buffer solution (NaHCO3+Na2S2O3). High radiochemical and chemical purity is obtained by this method. Important parameters such as temperature, distillation rate, sorbing and desorbing rates and 131I separation yields have been investigated.
