ABSTRACT

PIP: The authors examine changes in the distribution of cohorts aged 45, 60, 75, and 85 and over, using official data for Romania for the period 1900-1989. Consideration is given to the effect of changes in life expectancy and survivorship. (SUMMARY IN FRE AND RUM)^ieng

ABSTRACT

PIP: This is the first part of a two-part paper concerning longevity in Romania. The population structure is described by sex, age, and geographical location for the years 1966 and 1988. ABSTRACT

This is the second part of a two-part paper concerning longevity in Romania. In this part the authors examine "the extent to which levels of longevity reached in the Romanian counties over the period 1966 and 1968 were the result of...demographic aging; to this aim the nature and intensity of the relationship between the dynamics of longevity and demographic aging indices by county, sex and social background [were] correlatively analysed." ABSTRACT

PIP: The authors estimate the number of persons aged 90 to 99 years and the number of persons 100 years and over in Romania by sex and region for the year 1988. Data are based on the 1977 national census. The results show increases in both groups for the entire country and by district, with a sex differential favoring females. (SUMMARY IN FRE AND RUM)^ieng

ABSTRACT

Changes in the age distribution of the population of Romania are analyzed. "To this end, the mean, median and quartile age were analysed in terms of the dynamics of these usual average values under the effect of the changes in the age-distribution of the Romanian population over the last decades, marked by an accelerated process of demographic aging. The official demographic data available for the years 1930, 1956, 1966, 1977, 1988 and the projections by the year 2000 were used. As shown, the indices of the central tendency of the age-distribution of the Romanian population acquire increasing values, their ascending dynamics being in accordance with the phenomenon of the demographic aging on the whole, by sex and social milieu."
