ABSTRACT

We report the finding of benign, ectopic prostatic tissue in the seminal vesicle of a 67-year-old man who underwent a radical cystoprostatectomy for transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder and in whom carcinoma of the prostate was incidentally identified. The benign nature of the ectopic prostatic epithelium within the seminal vesicle was confirmed by its morphologic features and by the identification of an intact basal cell layer surrounding the prostatic epithelium. In this patient with prostatic carcinoma, it was essential to distinguish benign prostatic epithelium from adenocarcinoma to assign a correct tumor stage and determine appropriate treatment.

ABSTRACT

The case is presented of a 25 year old man with haemoptysis who exsanguinated following endoscopic fine needle aspiration of an endobronchial mass. Necroscopic examination revealed an aneurysm of the proximal left pulmonary artery.

ABSTRACT

Sclerosing cervicitis is an idiopathic fibrosis of the soft tissue compartments of the neck. Reported cases in the past have been characterized by both benign and malignant courses, but the histopathology of the lesion has been invariably benign.

ABSTRACT

We report an unusual case of a renal tumor that showed the classic features of oncocytoma but was wholly encapsulated in a shell of obliterative fibrosis with histologic features identical to those of retroperitoneal fibrosis. Although localized forms of retroperitoneal fibrosis are not uncommonly reported in cases of invasive or metastatic disease, to our knowledge this represents the first report of this process in association with a truly benign tumor of renal epithelial origin.

ABSTRACT

Blue rubber bleb nevi are histologically benign vascular neoplasms of the skin and gastrointestinal tract, which may cause pain and limb-threatening deformities, as well as potentially fatal visceral hemorrhage. Treatment of cutaneous and soft tissue lesions includes local excision, aimed at symptomatic relief, with appropriate referral for evaluation of gastrointestinal lesions and secondary anemia. A case of blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome with lesions of the foot is reported.

ABSTRACT

Six patients with typical features of the multiple basal cell nevus syndrome were studied cytogenetically, using prometaphase G-banding and C-banding. Three patients were from one family and the others were sporadic cases. No cytogenetic marker of the disease was identified using these techniques.

ABSTRACT

The use of Proplast in the restoration of contour defects and for reconstruction of alveolar ridges is described. An evaluation of the results of treatment suggests it is a useful material for the restoration of facial contour, but that there is a significant risk of infection when the intra-oral approach is adopted.
