ABSTRACT

We have studied the effect of dietary supplement "ExPress" on clinical and biochemical parameters and on the activity of detoxification enzymes of liver in patients with chronic viral hepatitis B and C. 24 patients (19 females and 5 males aged 16-39 years) were enrolled in the study. Patients in case group received dietary supplement "ExPress" in addition to basic treatment. Average indices of total bilirubin in cases after treatment were 26.98 +/- 2.85 mmol/l, while in controls--34.31 +/- 5.72 mmol/l (p > 0.05). Average indices of alanin-aminotransferase and aspartate-aminotransferase were 78.75 +/- 11.25 and 160.75 +/- 23.67 units while in controls--208.5 +/- 56.4 and 330.25 +/- 65.14 units respectively (p < 0.05). In case group we observed full normalization of thymol test--from 9.99 +/- 1.51 to 4.03 +/- 0.73 units (p = 0.001), while in controls--from 7.9 +/- 1.56 only to 5.2 +/- 1.15 units (p = 0.194). Contents of non-metabolized antipyrine in cases decreased from 9.76 +/- 1.2% (p = 0.0002) whilst in controls--from 9.38 +/- 1.28% only to 3.93 +/- 1.18% (p = 0.01). Results of the study show that dietary supplement "ExPress" induces the activity of detoxification enzymes of liver and increases the efficiency of basic treatment.

ABSTRACT

The paper discusses the data available in the literature and the author's own findings which show the close relationship between the unfavorable ecological situation in Siberia and the health indices of the population and its different groups. It outlines the ideas of the indicative and ecological dependence of abnormalities, whose comparative assessment and parameter changes make it possible to range the areas by the anthropo-ecological risks. It forwards a concept of the foci of socioecological stress, which forms around large-scale industrial enterprises and cities. A basic conclusion is made that the health status is an indicator of the ecological risk of regions and a limiting factor of the socioeconomic development of areas.

ABSTRACT

The patients with atherosclerosis obliterans of the peripheral arteries received sanatorium treatment at Belokurikha health resort. The treatment (thermoradonotherapy) involved hyperthermia in sauna combined with radon pool. The above combination turned out superior to conventional radonotherapy provided the procedures were well tolerated and no balneoreactions arose.

ABSTRACT

The article presents the structure and constituent elements of the algorithm of liver disorders' assessment (ALDA). The latter was designed to be applied at the initial stage of comprehensive prophylactic medical examinations of workers carried out for an early risk-factor quantitative assessment of functional disorders of the liver. The main results of the ALDA approbation are given account of, which demonstrated a high level sensitivity and specificity of the algorithm and its applicability to most USSR-produced computers.

ABSTRACT

The problems pertaining to the utilization of health status evaluation techniques insufficiently described in modern literature on preventive check-ups and dispensarization of the population are discussed. One of the approaches to quantitative diagnosis of risk factors of main pathologic syndromes and states carried out by means of Bayes formula and automation devices is proposed. The considered technique enables one to rank groups of healthy and practically healthy persons into arms according to quantitative indices and to differentiate them by priority, orientation and volume of the programmes of medical observation and examination.

ABSTRACT

The paper documents the necessity of study into food tastes and the nutrition pattern in multifactorial appraisal of the miners' health status. Use was made of a questionnaire enabling one to reveal the features of the nutrition regimen, individual food tastes and habits, and biorhythmological aspects. The application of such a questionnaire within the frames of multifactorial appraisal is an attempt to elucidate the relationship between nutrition aspects and disease risk. The data obtained indicate the prospectiveness of studying the features of nutrition during examination of tension and premorbid conditions.

ABSTRACT

The growth and proliferation of organ liver cultures from sucklings born to mice infected with Coxsackie A 13 virus during pregnancy have been studied. In liver explants of the experimental group of sucklings, a well defined zone of of growth, mostly of epithelial cells, was observed early, whereas the cell growth around liver explants of sucklings born to control female mice was either absent or very weak.
