ABSTRACT

Concentrations of albendazole and its active metabolite in echinococcal cyst of the human liver were determined in order to evaluate drug effects of the decrease of protoscolex vitality. Albendazole concentration of 0-64.9 micrograms/ml and albendazole sulfoxide of 0-40.8 micrograms/ml were found in cysts. The protoscolexes showed markedly manifested morphologic changes up to the disintegration. The postoperative follow up of patients within 24 months discovered no recidives of the disease and the patients were regarded as cured. On the basis of the results obtained it has been concluded that the use of albendazole in the dose of 800 mg/day within 28 day is sufficient for achievement of therapeutic drug level in vivo conditions.

ABSTRACT

Gas chromatography has been more commonly used in determination of alcohol in blood and other biologic fluids as the most precise and reliable method. Using this method as the standard one, the comparison was made of the results obtained by the analysis of the same samples using the chemical method by Aullu and McCord and results obtained by alcotest ethylmeters 7010, 7110 and 7310. The high correlation was achieved by comparing gas chromatography and chemical method (r = 0.92 and n = 29), that is, etyhlmeters. The best agreement of results was achieved with the alcohol concentration 0.0 mmol/l- 21.7 mmol/l.

ABSTRACT

Manifestations of cardiotoxicity in 9 patients with acute carabamazepine poisoning treated at the Clinic of Toxicology and Clinical Pharmacology of the M.M.A. in 1989 are reported. In all patients together with symptoms and signs characteristic for acute carbamezapine poisoning, there have been also present disorders of the cardiovascular system. The most common clinical signs of cardiotoxicity have been tachycardia and hypotension, and electrocardiographic, ventricular extrasystoles and repolarization disorders. Cardiotoxic manifestations in two cases have been the vital threat for the patients. After application of nonspecific and symptomatic therapy, clinical and electrocardiographic signs of cardiotoxicity were withdrawn, that is, heart sequeles were not recorded.
