ABSTRACT
A 4-stage system of mass screening of population for the detection of renal diseases tested in one of the outpatient clinic zones in Moscow (2013 residents), Thelinograd (7091 residents), and Tselinograd Region, Kazakh SSR (880 residents) was presented. The incidence rates of renal diseases per 1000 examined population in Moscow, Tselinograd and Thelinograd Region, Kazakh SSR, were 12.4 +/- 2.5, 10.4 +/- 1.2, 13.6 +/- 3.9, respectively.

Validity of a multidimensional statistics procedure for the prediction of the psychotropic drugs efficacy (PDE) was tested in a study on 60 schizophrenics showing the signs of an acute condition before treatment. Pretreatment ratings of 78 psychopathological symptoms underwent a computer analysis. A multiple stepwise regression equation was obtained which predicted PDE using ratings of 15 symptoms. A high correlation between the predicted and actual PDE was shown at cross-validation (r = +0.87), as well as a higher proportion of the PDE variance explained by the "regression" predictor rather than traditional "syndromal" one or the former's combination with the diagnosed type of the course (42%, 57.4% and 71.9%, respectively). Some methodological problems (homogeneity of patients and treatment conditions, the adequacy of the mathematical model applied) are discussed.

The investigation of parameters of the artificial pulmonary ventilation and hemodynamics of the greater and lesser circulation circles during operation on the lungs has shown these parameters to be most greatly changed at the stages of separation of the pulmonary root and dissection of the vessels and bronchi. Changes in the ventilatory regimen were not followed by changes in the pulmonary hemodynamics and gas composition of the blood.

When the pH of the medium was maintained at the level of 6.6--6.8 and the content of KH2PO4 in it was decreased, the biosynthetic activity of Streptococcus lactis, strain MGU, became lower. The culture assimilated low quantities of phosphorus from KH2PO4 at a high concentration of this salt in the medium; presumably, the culture required large quantities of potassium ions. If the pH of the medium is maintained at a constant value, the fermentation can be stopped 21 hr after the beginning of cultivation of Str. lactis, strain MGU.
