ABSTRACT

This study aims to investigate the association between two important personality traits (extraversion and neuroticism) and social media addiction (SMA) through social media usage (SMU) while considering the important moderating role of life satisfaction. We collected data from 623 university students in Pakistan through an electronic survey. SmartPLS software was utilized to perform partial least squares - structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) analyses to verify our proposed model. The results revealed a significant direct association between extraversion and social media addiction whereas social media usage partially mediates this relationship. However, the direct relationship between neuroticism and social media addiction was not found significant but was fully mediated by social media usage. In addition, life satisfaction revealed no moderating effect on the relationship between extraversion, neuroticism, and social media addiction. Our results contribute to the prior studies that intensity of using social media for whatever purpose leads to social media addiction; life satisfaction does not play any role in social media addiction. Limitations and directions for future research are discussed.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: Drawing on the growing emphasis in the literature on the importance of creativity in the workplace, the present study examines the effect of personal and organizational level factors that influences employee creativity. Precisely, we examine how grit, work engagement, person-organization fit, and feedback influence creativity in the workplace. Design/methodology/approach: We sampled data from 422 research assistants who are professional workers at top-notch Universities in China. They were recruited to participate in the survey through an online medium known as WeChat. We empirically tested the effect of grit, work engagement, person-organization fit, and feedback on employee creativity. These hypotheses were supported by confirmatory and exploratory factor analysis, and path analysis. Findings: The results show that work engagement strengthens the relationship between grit and creativity. In addition, the results proved that person-organization fit positively moderates the link between grit and work engagement. Feedback also had a positive mediating effect on the link between work engagement and creativity. Practical implications: Based on the appropriateness of an individual work environment, a gritty person will likely become engaged and creative with task execution. Consequently, a person's organizational fit will strongly interact with grit, work engagement, and creativity. Originality/value: We shed light on the blended value of personal and organizational-level factors that positively affect creativity in the workplace. Specifically, grit being both a personal and organizational factor influences employee creativity via work engagement. This research explored the effect of work engagement as a mechanism that serves as a motivational feature enhancing creativity. We also simultaneously identify the moderation conditions of person-organization fit and feedback. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed in detail. The study makes a theoretical contribution through its assessment of the impact of grit on employee creativity. The trait activation theory portrays how grit can be expressed through feedback and person-organization fit. In terms of practice, grit can be an important consideration in hiring decisions, and feedback should be given to make the workplace more creative.

ABSTRACT

Background: The 2019-nCoV which is regarded as a novel coronavirus is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus. It is infectious to humans and is the cause of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak which has elicited an emergency in public health and a call for immediate international concern has been linked to it. The coronavirus main proteinase which is also known as the 3C-like protease (3CLpro) is a very important protein in all coronaviruses for the role it plays in the replication of the virus and the proteolytic processing of the viral polyproteins. The resultant cytotoxic effect which is a product of consistent viral replication and proteolytic processing of polyproteins can be greatly reduced through the inhibition of the viral main proteinase activities. This makes the 3C-like protease of the coronavirus a potential and promising target for therapeutic agents against the viral infection. Results: This study describes the detailed computational process by which the 2019-nCoV main proteinase coding sequence was mapped out from the viral full genome, translated and the resultant amino acid sequence used in modeling the protein 3D structure. Comparative physiochemical studies were carried out on the resultant target protein and its template while selected HIV protease inhibitors were docked against the protein binding sites which contained no co-crystallized ligand. Conclusion: In line with results from this study which has shown great consistency with other scientific findings on coronaviruses, we recommend the administration of the selected HIV protease inhibitors as first-line therapeutic agents for the treatment of the current coronavirus epidemic.
