ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Disease management programs (DMP) are a modern way of treating health conditions and are becoming a part of standard care. One telehealth DMP service has been in regular operation since 2017, named "HerzMobil Tirol". OBJECTIVES: This paper investigates, if the electronic health record standard HL7 CDA, which is widely accepted in the health care industry, could be used for telehealth DMP services as well. It is already in use in a legally required integrated element of healthcare in Austria called ELGA. An official guideline from the Austrian Ministry of Health sets the standard for telemonitoring with data logging. METHODS: After the background knowledge was built up, requirements have been gathered through existing official guidelines and interviews and existing documentation by "HerzMobil Tirol". RESULTS: Twenty-five requirements were collected, categorized and analyzed to determine if the existing CDA guidelines are suitable or a new standard must be designed. CONCLUSION: Based on the requirements, it was established that seven specific sections and two different CDA documents are needed.

ABSTRACT

Case-based reasoning and data interpretation is an artificial intelligence approach that capitalizes on past experience to solve current problems and this can be used as a method for practical intelligent systems. Case-based data reasoning is able to provide decision support for experts and clinicians in health systems as well as lifestyle systems. In this project we were focusing on developing a solution for healthy ageing considering daily activities, nutrition as well as cognitive activities. The data analysis of the reasoner followed state of the art guidelines from clinical practice. Guidelines provide a general framework to guide clinicians, and require consequent background knowledge to become operational, which is precisely the kind of information recorded in practice cases; cases complement guidelines very well and helps to interpret them. It is expected that the interest in case-based reasoning systems in the health.

ABSTRACT

Today, progress in biomedical research often depends on large, interdisciplinary research projects and tailored information and communication technology (ICT) support. In the context of the European Network for Cancer Research in Children and Adolescents (ENCCA) project the exchange of data between data source (Source Domain) and data consumer (Consumer Domain) systems in a distributed computing environment needs to be facilitated. This work presents the requirements and the corresponding solution architecture of the Advanced Biomedical Collaboration Domain for Europe (ABCD-4-E). The proposed concept utilises public as well as private cloud systems, the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) framework and web-based applications to provide the core capabilities in accordance with privacy and security needs. The utility of crucial parts of the concept was evaluated by prototypic implementation. A discussion of the design indicates that the requirements of ENCCA are fully met. A whole system demonstration is currently being prepared to verify that ABCD-4-E has the potential to evolve into a domain-bridging collaboration platform in the future.

ABSTRACT

Connecting various sensors in sensor networks has become popular during the last decade. An important aspect next to storing and creating data is information access by domain experts, such as researchers, caretakers and physicians. In this work we present the design and prototypic implementation of a light-weight query engine using natural language processing for accessing health-related sensor data in a fall prevention system.
