ABSTRACT

To reduce the radiation exposure during full spine X-ray examinations, the following techniques were instituted: 72" tube to film distance; X-ray beam collimation; fast screen-film combination (rare earth gradual screens with high speed films); additional compensation filters; shielding of the most radiation-sensitive organs. Dosimetric measurements are reported. A very high reduction in exposure, above all of breasts and gonads, was obtained, without significant loss in the quality of radiographs.

ABSTRACT

A rare case of a bifid gallbladder is reported, in which a traditional radiological examination provided more nosological details than echography.

ABSTRACT

Reference is made to results obtained in 53 nephropathics in the study of urinary elimination of alphaglycosidase and lysozyme before and after rapid contrastography with sodium and meglumine diatrizoate and with iopamidol. A statistically significant difference in alphaglycosidase was evident with both media, whereas no change was noted for lysozyme. As far as the evaluation of alphaglycosidase was concerned, the tubular alteration induced by each medium was the same in terms of statistical comparison of the mean differences before and after urography.

ABSTRACT

An account is given of a study of 118 patients, including 67 with renal failure of varying severity, examined nephrangiotomographically with the aid of both a non-ionic contrast medium (iopamidol) and a conventional medium (sodium diatrizoate and methylglucamine). It is shown that the advantages presented by rapid injection of the medium, and the obtaining of prompt vascular data, are accompanied by those offered by the non-ionic medium, since it induces reduced osmotic diuresis, which permits satisfactory visualisation of the excretory ducts, even in patients with very low glomerular filtration values.

ABSTRACT

Tomographic study of the bile ways following a second dose of oral contrast medium led in 60 patients to a considerable diagnostic gain. Oral cholecystographic examination failures fell and at the same time the field of indication for i.v. cholangiography was restricted.

ABSTRACT

A brief report of two cases of Goodpasture's pneumonephrotoxic syndrome offers the greatest contribution that can be given by renal radiographic signs obtained by contrast radiography. Their association with already known pulmonary signs helps diagnosis and is an absolute indication for nephrobiopsy.

ABSTRACT

Radiology has an important part to play in Goodpasture's syndrome. The radio-sympatomatological value of lung changes are clarified and subdivided into primary, secondary and mixed, and mention made of the possible significance of cardiomegaly, where present. Special attention is paid to the importance of radiological exploration of the kidneys for the recognition of changes whose concomitance with lung changes may suggest diagnosis of Goodpasture's syndrome.

ABSTRACT

The reported case calls attention to the possibility that an ectasia of the preterminal segment of the oesophagus with concomitant filling defects may be the expression of ascending intraluminal development of cancer of the bottom of the stomach.

ABSTRACT

Incidental hepatobiliary elimination of a urophilous preparation in a subject with nephrocalcinosis is referred to in an examination of the question of heterotopic opacisation. Stress is placed on the link between this phenomenon with coincident renal insufficiency, and on the need for lengthy controls to ensure its demonstration.
