ABSTRACT

PIP: A brief history of census-taking in Russia is presented, beginning in the time of Peter I in 1719-1722. This original census was revised 10 times up to 1857-1860. Following that, a series of local censuses was taken (about 200 between 1862 and 1917). The first modern national census was taken in 1897.^ieng
