ABSTRACT
Maxar and legalon--hepatoprotectors containing polyphenols--exhibit a therapeutic effect with respect to the experimental Reye's syndrome induced in rats by intraperitoneal injections of 4-pentenoic acid. Maxar restores the activity of enzymes of the hepatic origin, normalizes the content of bilirubin, glucose, phenols, and malonic aldehyde in the blood serum, stimulates the production of ketone bodies and ammonia detoxication, and improves the histologic structures of liver and cortex. Legalon also decreases the structural-metabolic disorders accompanying the Reye's syndrome, but to as lower ewxtent.

One of the lines of inquiry into rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a quest for markers capable of prognosticating the course of the illness. It is only genetic factors, the presence of rheumatoid factor, and activity of the illness that are most significant prognostic criteria. Showing much promise among the current approaches is DAS (Disease Activity Score) which relies on four variables (Richey index, number of swollen joints, ESR, and health index). The baseline and cumulative DAS values over a certain period of time can be used as prognostic factors. It is these criteria that the European League Against the Rheumatic Diseases Committee on Standardization of Clinical and Therapeutic Investigations have given approval to. They have been termed EULAR criteria.

A study is presented of 107 patients with chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis verified on the basis of morphological changes of the punctate obtained at echocontrol puncture liver biopsy. It was established that clinical manifestations of chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis are determined not only by their morphological forms, but also by the structure of the inflammatory infiltrate of the liver tissue. This is to be considered in evaluation of the severity of the disease course and differentiated treatment.

Serum levels of eicosanoids in patients suffering from chronic hepatic diseases were analysed in correlation with morphological characteristics of the hepatic lesion, body reactivity, manifestations of the alternative and immune phases of the inflammation. The results could be contributing to diagnosing and treating chronic inflammation in the liver.
