ABSTRACT
UNLABELLED: We describe a case of isolated ischemic necrosis of the epididymis in a premature newborn with aortic steal syndrome, secondary to a large patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). Neither this finding nor the possible underlying pathogenesis has been previously described. CONCLUSION: In this report our knowledge of the potential complications of PDA in the premature neonate is extended.

During the years 1975-1990 we treated 6 patients, 52-70 years old, with lipomas of the gastrointestinal tract. In 4 cases the diagnosis was made preoperatively. In 5 the tumor was located in the colon and in 1 in the stomach. 4 were treated surgically and 2, with relatively small lesions, were followed for 24 and for 52 months, respectively. A lipoma situated in the alimentary tract may lead to a variety of symptoms. Awareness of this phenomenon and the use of advanced diagnostic modalities may allow definitive clinical diagnosis.

A new anastomotic technique was performed in a second-look operation for obstructive jaundice after an initial Rous-en-Y cholecystojejunostomy for an adenocarcinoma of the pancreas. This palliative bypass procedure consisted of the interposition of the gallbladder between the common hepatic duct and the jejunum to allow the free drainage of bile.

The experiments reported in this paper draw attention to three new facts : 1) the reticulo-endothelial system (RES) of normal Rat can be " filled " with a non toxic, polymeric substance, PVNO, which is taken up by macrophages by pinocytosis ; 2) a broncho-pulmonary irritation leads to a discharge of PVNO by the macrophage. The macrophages are poured out into the blood stream, whence they arrive in to the lung ; 3) this discharge of a polymer as PVNO which has been previously taken in the macrophage, can happen even 10-12 months after the filling of the RES by the macromolecule.
