ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to estimate the doses delivered to adult patients during explorations of the sinuses and coastal grill whose attention in dosimetric terms is neglected because of the low demand for diagnosis. But yet dosimetric values are very high. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study was transversely descriptive and was conducted between April and July 2016. The data were collected on 50 adult patients of mass of 70±10kg at the Regional Hospital of Ngaoundere (HRN). The dose at the entrance of the patients' skin was evaluated through the theoretical methods derived from the Davies model according to the 75th percentile calculations. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The entrance skin doses obtained in mGy were, respectively, of 7.2±0.2 for sinuses and 5.27±0.1 for coastal grill. The present study found many variations in doses during radiological investigations. These variations allowed us to understand that the notions of quality of the radiographic image, insurance, and quality control of the radiological equipment are tributary, abstract, and often theoretical because doses delivered are not sufficiently optimized. CONCLUSION: The dosimetric analysis remains very worrying because the various procedures show that an improvement of the practices especially with respect to the technical parameters and the protocols must be considered. Therefore a strengthening of radiological protection skills of radiological manipulators (continuing education and retraining) would contribute to a better protection of patients.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical and CT-scan features of the Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) revealed in children by epilepsy. PATIENTS AND METHOD: It was a cross sectional descriptive study carried out in the Yaounde Gyneco-Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital (YGOPH). Eight consecutive patients consulting for epilepsy between January 2005 and December 20010 with clinical and CT-scan diagnosis criteria of TSC were included in this study. RESULTS: There were two girls and six boys (aged 25months to 14years) with drug-resistant epilepsy and characteristics skin lesions of TSC (hypomelanotic macules, angiofibroma of Pringle, shagreen patches). The delay between the onset of epileptic crisis and the diagnosis of TSC varied from 10 months to 6years. One case of renal involvement and another of ophthalmic involvement were found. Cerebral CT-scan was abnormal for each patient with calcified sub-ependymal nodules in 100%, cortical tubers in 5 patients (62.5%) and one suspicion of giant sub-ependymal atrocytoma. CONCLUSION: Features of TSC are ruled by epilepsy, skin lesions, calcified sub-ependymal nodules and cortical tubers. Thus children presenting with epilepsy, should have a careful dermatological examination to search for TSC lesions. Cerebral CT-scan will afterwards seek for characteristic brain lesions.

ABSTRACT

Amoebic abscess is the most frequent type of liver abscess in tropical areas, including in immunocompromised patients. Abscesses affect the right lobe in 74% of cases and are solitary in more than 80%. The ultrasonographic features of liver abscess vary according to stage, viscosity of liquid contents, amount of debris inside and presence of gas bubbles. Multiple small abcesses are mainly associated with pyogenic abscess and are promoted by HIV infection.

ABSTRACT

We describe the principle and the operation of a 120 x 100 pixel antiblooming array. Each cell in the array is made up of a hydrogenated amorphous silicon photoconductor layer driving a ferroelectric liquid-crystal shutter. The device is designed to be coupled with a CCD camera to prevent high-blooming overload and image lag.
