ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Motivational interviewing has become a popular approach for relieving mood disturbances. We aimed to investigate whether motivational interviewing can effectively improve depression, anxiety, and quality of life among stroke patients. METHODS: Seven electronic databases were searched from inception to March 15, 2021. Other potentially related studies were identified through manually searching the reference lists of empirical articles and relevant review articles. Randomized controlled trials that investigated the effects of motivational interviewing on stroke patients with mood disturbances were deemed eligible. The Cochrane Handbook 5.1.0 was used to assess the risk of bias. Meta-analyses were conducted using the Review Manager Version 5.3. RESULTS: Six articles with 1419 participants were included. The subgroup analysis revealed that motivational interviewing was associated with improvement of depression (P < .00001) and quality of life (P = .0007) among patients having stroke at less than 12 months of follow-up. No significant differences were detected for improving depression (P = .40) and quality of life (P = .38) at 12 months of follow-up. Furthermore, the meta-analysis showed that motivational interviewing was not associated with alleviation of anxiety (P = .81) among stroke patients. CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis indicated that motivational interviewing might have beneficial effects on depression and quality of life in stroke patients at less than 12 months of follow-up. However, large and well-designed randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these findings.

SummaryWhile SARS-CoV-2 likely has animal origins1, the viral genetic changes necessary to adapt this animal-derived ancestral virus to humans are largely unknown, mostly due to low levels of sequence polymorphism and the notorious difficulties in experimental manipulations of coronavirus genomes. We scanned more than 182,000 SARS-CoV-2 genomes for selective sweep signatures and found that a distinct footprint of positive selection is located around a non-synonymous change (A1114G; T372A) within the Receptor-Binding Domain of the Spike protein, which likely played a critical role in overcoming species barriers and accomplishing interspecies transmission from animals to humans. Structural analysis indicated that the substitution of threonine with an alanine in SARS-CoV-2 concomitantly removes a predicted glycosylation site at N370, resulting in more favorable binding predictions to human ACE2, the cellular receptor. Using a novel bacteria-free cloning system for manipulating RNA virus genomes, we experimentally validated that this SARS-CoV-2-unique substitution significantly increases replication in human cells relative to its putative ancestral variant. Notably, this mutations impact on virus replication in human cells was much greater than that of the Spike D614G mutant, which has been widely reported to have been selected for during human-to-human transmission2,3.

OBJECTIVE To develop technique of central vein catheterization by external jugular vein puncture under ultrasound guidance.METHODS A total of 224 patients with central vein catheterization by external jugular vein puncture were randomized into two groups: the control group was treated by routine manipulation and observed blood vessels by macroscopic observation;the patients from the observation group were placed catheters with the assist of ultrasound techniques.To record the one time achievement ratio of catheterization and incidence of phlebitis and thrombus.RESULTS Comparing the two groups,we found the observation group had higher one time achievement ratio of catheterization and lower incidence of phlebitis and thrombus than that of the control group.And there were statistical significances between the two groups(P
