ABSTRACT

Authors report a case of Fournier's gangrene developed after prostatic puncture to draw attention to this rare condition, which can develop rapidly and jeopardize patient's life. They recommend an urgent and aggressive surgical intervention including temporary urinary and bowel diversion, if it is required.

ABSTRACT

The postoperative complaints of patients having been subjected to laparoscopic cholecystectomy have been studied. Residual gallstones involving clinical symptoms have not been observed. Right subcostal pain, meteorism, and nausea due to faulty diet showed a slight difference in favour of the laparoscopic method when compared to traditional surgery. The laparoscopic method was qualified as excellent by over 95 per cent of the patients.

ABSTRACT

Examination of the bronchial artery system by means of contrast materials and pneumo-angiography has made it possible to determine the extent of the pathological process and to provide an answer to some of the problems raised by chronic non-specific diseases. When free passage is disturbed in the bronchi and alveolar ventilation is abolished, arterial blood will reach through the arterio-arterial anastomosis the branches of the pulmonary arteries, followed by a local hypertension in the affected region and a high oxygen saturation in the terminal branches of the pulmonary artery. In the case of bronchiectasis, the capillary circulation in the bronchial wall decreases because of the extension of the bronchial system which leads to the development of sclerosis and thus to a deterioration of the drainage function of the bronchus.

ABSTRACT

A method of in situ preformed auto-alloplastic replacement for the treatment of long femoro-poplitela vascular obstructions is described on the basis of highly promising experimental results. A macropouous tube made of aplastic net and obturated with a silicone rubber mandril was implanted next to the obstructed vascular section. The two ends of the live auto-alloplastic tube formed in situ around the mandril were joined in a second operation to the femoral and popliteal arteries. Early experience is described on grounds of four cases, together with the current and possible future indications of the operation.
