ABSTRACT

Renal function was examined in 66 proteinura-free patients at the age of 40-67 years having diabetes mellitus (DM) type II for 4-10 years and HbA1c 7% maximum. Non-insulin-dependent DM was found to affect both glomerular and tubulointerstitial renal systems. This was indicated by reduced glomerular filtration, microalbuminuria, hyperenzymuria, high blood and urine levels of beta-2-microglobulin. Administration of glurenorm instead of maninil led to enhancement of glomerular filtration, lowerering of albuminuria, uroenyzmes, beta-2-microglobulin in the blood and urine. Glurenorm is a proper drug in DM type II as it has both sugar-reducing and nephroprotective effects.

ABSTRACT

The paper deals with a description of the biochemical properties of the isoforms of pepsinogen pepsin of gastric mucosa and blood serum in children suffering from duodenal ulcerative disease as well as in atrophic and subtrophic lesions of gastric mucosa. Atrophic gastritis was found to involve an inhibited biosynthesis of the Ist fraction of pepsinogen while ulcerative-erosive lesions of the gastro-duodenal area--an increased level of the 3rd isoform of pepsinogen.

ABSTRACT

The perspectives in application of carnosine, its analogs (histidine-containing dipeptides), and their derivatives as components of medicinal drugs are reviewed. These applications are based on antioxidative properties of carnosine and its analogs, their chelating activity towards transient valency metals as well as on their specific neurotransmitter functions in the brain. Combination of carnosine with other antioxidants and the use of copper or zinc complexes with histidine-containing dipeptides are considered as perspective trends in the design of new drugs.

ABSTRACT

The changes in the pepsinogen pepsin system reflect the degree of morphological alterations in the gastric mucosa. Based on the results of examining 98 children suffering from gastroduodenal diseases, the possibility is shown of distinguishing genetic and biochemical markers of duodenal ulcer. The characteristic features of the isoenzymic spectrum of pepsinogen-pepsin in different gastroduodenal diseases are demonstrated.
