ABSTRACT

Forkhead Box O1 (FOXO1) has been reported to play important roles in many tumors. However, FOXO1 has not been studied in pan-cancer. The purpose of this study was to reveal the roles of FOXO1 in pan-cancer (33 cancers in this study). Through multiple public platforms, a pan-cancer analysis of FOXO1 was conducted to obtained FOXO1 expression profiles in various tumors to explore the relationship between FOXO1 expression and prognosis of these tumors and to disclose the potential mechanism of FOXO1 in these tumors. FOXO1 was associated with the prognosis of multiple tumors, especially LGG (low grade glioma), OV (ovarian carcinoma), and KIRC (kidney renal clear cell carcinoma). FOXO1 might play the role of an oncogenic gene in LGG and OV, while playing the role of a cancer suppressor gene in KIRC. FOXO1 expression had a significant correlation with the infiltration of some immune cells in LGG, OV, and KIRC. By combining FOXO1 expression and immune cell infiltration, we found that FOXO1 might influence the overall survival of LGG through the infiltration of myeloid dendritic cells or CD4+ T cells. Functional enrichment analysis and gene set enrichment analysis showed that FOXO1 might play roles in tumors through immunoregulatory interactions between a lymphoid and a non-lymphoid cell, TGF-beta signaling pathway, and transcriptional misregulation in cancer. FOXO1 was associated with the prognosis of multiple tumors, especially LGG, OV, and KIRC. In these tumors, FOXO1 might play its role via the regulation of the immune microenvironment.

ABSTRACT

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Accumulating evidence indicates that hypoxia and lactate metabolism play critical roles in tumor progression and therapeutic efficacy. This study aimed to construct a hypoxia- and lactate metabolism-related prognostic model (HLPM) to evaluate survival and treatment responses for HCC patients and develop a nomogram integrated with HLPM and clinical characteristics for prognosis prediction in HCC. Methods: Expression profile and clinical data of HCC were obtained from TCGA and ICGC databases. The univariate, LASSO and stepwise multivariate Cox analyses were used to identify the hypoxia- and lactate metabolism-related biomarkers, whose expression levels were then validated in 14 pairs tissue samples and single-cell RNA sequencing dataset. Kaplan-Meier survival curves were utilized to assess the prognostic values of biomarkers or models. Analyses of ImmuCellAI, TIDE and drug sensitivity were conducted to evaluate the therapeutic responses of patients. Furthermore, the nomogram integrated with hypoxic and lactate metabolic characteristics was established through univariate and multivariate Cox analyses. ROC curves, C-index, and calibration curves were depicted to evaluate the performance of the nomogram. Results: Five hypoxia- and lactate metabolism-related biomarkers (KIF20A, IRAK1, ADM, PPARGC1A and EPO) were used to construct HLPM. The expression of five prognostic biomarkers was validated in 14 pairs tissue samples and single-cell RNA sequencing dataset. Analyses of ImmuCellAI, TIDE and drug sensitivity implied that patients with low-risk score were more sensitive to immunotherapy and major chemotherapeutic agents. The nomogram that contained age, histological grade and risk score of HLPM was developed and exhibited a better capacity in prognosis prediction than HLPM only. Conclusion: A novel nomogram integrated with hypoxic and lactate metabolic characteristics was developed and validated for prognosis prediction in HCC, providing insight into personalized decision-making in clinical management.

ABSTRACT

Ferroptosis has garnered attention as a potential approach to fight against cancer, which is characterized by the iron-driven buildup of lipid peroxidation. However, the robust defense mechanisms against intracellular ferroptosis pose significant challenges to its effective induction. In this paper, an effective gene delivery vehicle was developed to transport solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11) shRNA (shSLC7A11), which downregulates the expression of the channel protein SLC7A11 and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), evoking a surge in reactive oxygen species production, iron accumulation, and lipid peroxidation in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells, and subsequently leading to ferroptosis. This delivery system is composed of an HCC-targeting lipid layer and esterase-responsive cationic polymer, a poly{N-[2-(acryloyloxy)ethyl]-N-[p-acetyloxyphenyl]-N} (PQDEA) condensed shSLC7A11 core (G-LPQDEA/shSLC7A11). After intravenous (i.v.) injection, G-LPQDEA/shSLC7A11 quickly accumulated in the tumor, retarding its growth by 77% and improving survival by two times. This study is the first to construct a gene delivery system, G-LPQDEA/shSLC7A11, that effectively inhibits HCC progression by downregulating SLC7A11 expression. This underscores its therapeutic potential as a safe and valuable candidate for clinical treatment.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Inflammation and vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) phenotypic switching are implicated in the pathogenesis of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) has emerged as a crucial risk factor in cardiovascular diseases, inducing vascular inflammation and calcification. We aimed to evaluate the effect of TMAO on the formation of AAA. APPROACH AND RESULTS: Here, we showed that TMAO was elevated in plasma from AAA patients compared with nonaneurysmal subjects by liquid chromatography‒mass spectrometry (LC‒MS) detection. Functional studies revealed that increased TMAO induced by feeding a choline-supplemented diet promoted Ang II-induced AAA formation. Immunohistochemistry, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and Western blot analyses revealed that TMAO induced macrophage infiltration and inflammatory factor release. Conversely, inhibition of TMAO by supplementation with DMB suppressed AAA formation and the inflammatory response. Molecular studies revealed that TMAO regulated VSMC phenotypic switching. Flow cytometry analyses showed that TMAO induces macrophage M1-type polarization. Furthermore, pharmacological intervention experiments suggested that the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway was critical for TMAO to trigger AAA formation. CONCLUSIONS: TMAO promotes AAA formation by inducing vascular inflammation and VSMC phenotypic switching through activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway. Thus, TMAO is a prospective therapeutic AAA target.

ABSTRACT

Acquired resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs in gallbladder cancer (GBC) results in therapy failure. This study is aimed to establish oxaliplatin (OXA)-resistant GBC cell lines and uncover their gene expression profiles. First, two OXA-resistant GBC cell lines (GBC-SD/OXA and SGC996/OXA) were established by gradually increasing the drug concentration, and the resistance index was 4-5. The two resistant cell lines showed slower proliferation and higher stemness, colony formation, and migration abilities. Epithelial mesenchymal transformation and increased levels of P-glycoprotein were also detected. Next RNA-sequence analysis identified 4,675 dysregulated genes (DGs) in resistant cells, and most of the 12 randomly selected DGs were verified to be consistent with the sequence results. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis indicated that several DGs were involved in resistance- and phenotype-related pathways, of which the activations of PD-L1 and ERK1/2 were both verified in resistant cell lines. In conclusion, this study is the first to report the gene expression profile of OXA-resistant GBC cells and provides a useful database for target development.

ABSTRACT

A series of coal and gas outburst tests were conducted on coal seams in north China to determine the important order of gas pressure, in situ stress, and coal strength during coal and gas outbursts. And the typical phenomena of coal and gas outbursts were investigated. In addition, improved outburst energy equations were built to study the coal energy evolution process during coal and gas outbursts. The results show that the coal strength has the strongest influence on coal and gas outbursts, followed by the gas pressure and the in situ stress. The weights of pulverized coal with a particle size of less than 0.28 mm are consistent with the changing trend of the total weights of the pulverized coal particles in the corresponding outburst interval. Furthermore, the results suggest that the gas pressure monitored by the sensors close to the outburst hole begins to drop first and lasts for the longest time. The outburst coal presents obvious fracture and pulverization damage characteristics, and the pulverization damage features of the coal near the outburst hole are more obvious. In addition, the improved outburst energy equation was established, and the rationality of the improved outburst energy equation was verified by using the outburst orthogonal simulation experimental data and the on-site outburst accident cases. The results of this experiment have important guiding significance for preventing and controlling the occurrence of coal and gas outbursts and ensuring safe and efficient mining of coal mines.

ABSTRACT

A tunable dual broadband switchable terahertz absorber based on vanadium dioxide and graphene is proposed. The tunability of graphene and the phase transition properties of vanadium dioxide are used to switch broadband absorption between low-frequency and high-frequency, as well as the absorption rate tuning function. The simulation results indicate that when vanadium dioxide is in the insulating phase and the graphene Fermi energy is 0.7 eV, the absorber achieves low-frequency broadband absorption within the range of 2.6-4.2 THz with an absorptance greater than 90%; when vanadium dioxide is in the metallic phase and the graphene Fermi energy is 0 eV, the absorber achieves high-frequency broadband absorption within the range of 4.9-10 THz with an absorptance greater than 90%. Furthermore, the absorptance can be tuned by adjusting the conductivity of vanadium dioxide or the Fermi energy of graphene. Due to the central symmetry of the proposed structure, the absorber is completely insensitive to polarization. For TE and TM polarized waves, both low and high-frequency broadband absorption are maintained over a range of incident angles from 0° to 50°. The simple structure, tunable absorption rate, insensitivity to polarization angle and incident angle properties are advantages of our proposed absorber. It has broad application prospects in adjustable filters and electromagnetic shielding.

With the improvement of the average life expectancy and increasing incidence of obesity, the burden of liver disease is increasing. Liver disease is a serious threat to human health. Currently, liver transplantation is the only effective treatment for end-stage liver disease. However, liver transplantation still faces unavoidable difficulties. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can be used as an alternative therapy for liver disease, especially liver cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver transplantation complications. However, MSCs may have potential tumorigenic effects. Exosomes derived from MSCs (MSC-Exos), as the important intercellular communication mode of MSCs, contain various proteins, nucleic acids, and DNA. MSC-Exos can be used as a delivery system to treat liver diseases through immune regulation, apoptosis inhibition, regeneration promotion, drug delivery, and other ways. Good histocompatibility and material exchangeability make MSC-Exos a new treatment for liver diseases. This review summarizes the latest research on MSC-Exos as delivery vehicles in different liver diseases, including liver injury, liver failure, liver fibrosis, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and ischemia and reperfusion injury. In addition, we discuss the advantages, disadvantages, and clinical application prospects of MSC-Exos-based delivery vectors in the treatment of liver diseases.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: Eucommia ulmoides gum (EUG) is an important natural biomass rubber material, which is usually extracted from Eucommia ulmoides Oliver (EUO). In the extraction process of EUG, pretreatment is the most important step which can efficiently damage EUG-containing cell wall and improve yield of EUG. RESULTS: The FT-IR, XRD, DSC and TG results showed that the thermal properties and structure of the EUG from the dilute acids hydrolysis residue are similar with that of the EUG directly extracted from EUO leaves (EUGD). EUO leaves hydrolysis with AA had the highest EUG yield (16.1%), which was higher than the EUGD yield (9.5%). In the case of the EUO leaves hydrolysis with 0.33 ~ 0.67 wt% of acetic acid (AA), the total sugar was stable in the range of 26.82-27.67 g/L. Furthermore, the EUO leaves acid hydrolysate (AA as reagent) was used as carbon sources for lipid-producing fermentation by Rhodosporidium toruloides. After 120 h of fermentation, the biomass, lipid content and lipid yield were 12.13 g/L, 30.16% and 3.64 g/L, respectively. The fermentation results indicated organic acids were no toxic for Rhodosporidium toruloides and the AA also could be used as carbon source for fermentation.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: FDG PET imaging is often recommended for the diagnosis of pulmonary nodules after indeterminate low dose CT lung cancer screening. Lowering FDG injecting is desirable for PET imaging. In this work, we aimed to investigate the performance of a deep learning framework in the automatic diagnoses of pulmonary nodules at different count levels of PET imaging. Materials and methods: Twenty patients with 18F-FDG-avid pulmonary nodules were included and divided into independent training (60%), validation (20%), and test (20%) subsets. We trained a convolutional neural network (ResNet-50) on original DICOM images and used ImageNet pre-trained weight to fine-tune the model. Simulated low-dose PET images at the 9 count levels (20 × 106, 15 × 106, 10 × 106, 7.5 × 106, 5 × 106, 2 × 106, 1 × 106, 0.5 × 106, and 0.25 × 106 counts) were obtained by randomly discarding events in the PET list mode data for each subject. For the test dataset with 4 patients at the 9 count levels, 3,307 and 3,384 image patches were produced for lesion and background, respectively. The receiver-operator characteristic (ROC) curve of the proposed model under the different count levels with different lesion size groups were assessed and the areas under the ROC curve (AUC) were compared. Results: The AUC values were >0.98 for all count levels except for 0.5 and 0.25 million true counts (0.975 (CL 95%, 0.953-0.992) and 0.963 (CL 95%, 0.941-0.982), respectively). The AUC values were 0.941(CL 95%, 0.923-0.956), 0.993(CL 95%, 0.990-0.996) and 0.998(CL 95%, 0.996-0.999) for different groups of lesion size with effective diameter (R) <10 mm, 10-20 mm, and >20 mm, respectively. The count limit for achieving high AUC (≥0.96) for lesions with size R < 10 mm and R > 10 mm were 2 million (equivalent to an effective dose of 0.08 mSv) and 0.25 million true counts (equivalent to an effective dose of 0.01 mSv), respectively. Conclusion: All of the above results suggest that the proposed deep learning based method may detect small lesions <10 mm at an effective radiation dose <0.1 mSv. Advances in knowledge: We investigated the advantages and limitations of a fully automated lung cancer detection method based on deep learning models for data with different lesion sizes and different count levels, and gave guidance for clinical application.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Non-communicable and chronic diseases (NCDs) have become a public health problem that seriously threatens the population's health, especially in rapidly industrialized countries. Given the complexity of managing NCDs, there is growing evidence that interventions embedding or incorporating health promotion strategies can help reduce the disease burden of NCDs. This review aims to identify and map existing control and prevention policies for NCDs in China and identify gaps or opportunities for policy modifications and development, to transfer evidence-based guidelines into empirical public health intervention practices and research. DESIGN: A review was conducted to evaluate the policy documents to manage NCDs in China. Keywords "chronic disease", "health", and "policy" were used to search documents published on the Chinese official national websites. Nvivo 12.0 was used to conduct a content analysis of the policy documents. RESULTS: Fifty-six NCD prevention policies were retrieved from the search, and ten documents that incorporated the health promotion component were analyzed. The Healthy China 2030 Plan and Recommendations on Implementing the Healthy China Action are the core health policies of China's Central Government. These, coupled with three nationwide community-based projects, have provided a foundational transformation platform for health promotion implementation. CONCLUSION: This review revealed the Chinese Government's determination and commitment toward the prevention and control of NCDs and the promotion public health. Additional efforts and a focus on accelerating policy transformation and strengthening policy evaluation are required to achieve this commitment.

ABSTRACT

Natural product celastrol is known to have various biological activities, yet its molecular targets that correspond to many activities remain unclear. Here, we used multiple mass-spectrometry-based approaches to identify catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) as a major binding target of celastrol and characterized their interaction comprehensively. Celastrol was found to inhibit the enzymatic activity of COMT and increased the dopamine level in neuroendocrine chromaffin cells significantly. Our study not only revealed a novel binding target of celastrol but also provided a new scaffold and cysteine hot spot for developing new generation COMT inhibitors in combating neurological disorders.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Revealing microfibrillar-associated protein 4 (MFAP4)'s function and its clinical significance in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blotting were used to evaluate MFAP4 mRNA and protein expression in paired HCC and paracarcinoma tissues, respectively. MFAP4 serum concentration was detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays in healthy people (n = 30), cirrhosis (n = 15) and HCC patients (n = 80). MFAP4 protein expression was detected in two tissue microarrays (n = 60 and n = 90). Plasmids were transfected into human HCC cell line Bel-7402, and MFAP4 function was determined in vitro in cell experiments. Furthermore, tumorigenicity studies in nude mice served to assess the function of MFAP4 for HCC. Results: Both MFAP4 mRNA and protein expression were significantly downregulated in HCC tissue compared with paracarcinoma tissue (P < 0.05). Decreased MFAP4 expression in paracarcinoma tissue was associated with poor postoperative survival in HCC patients (P = 0.027). MFAP4 was also downregulated in HCC sera compared with healthy people (P < 0.05). In vitro, MFAP4 upregulation in Bel-7402 cells induced S phase arrest, promoted apoptosis, and inhibited migration and invasion. Western blotting indicated MFAP4 overexpression increased CDK4, CDK6, pRB, P27, and BCL-XS expression. Tumorigenicity study showed that the upregulation of MFAP4 inhibited the proliferation of Bel-7402 cells in nude mice. Conclusions: MFAP4 expression was significantly lower both in sera and tissue of HCC patients. MFAP4 can serve as molecular marker for HCC diagnosis and prognosis. Additionally, MFAP4 acted as an important HCC tumor suppressor by inducing S phase arrest, and promoting apoptosis, cell migration, and invasion.

OBJECTIVE: Evidence shows sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption is a risk factor for obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in children. Investigating the influential profiles, which have been examined insufficiently, will help to inform the reduction of SSB consumption. The present research examines the current trend in SSB consumption and associated factors among children in China, in order to inform policy development. METHODS: Secondary data was extracted from China's Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS; 2004, 2006, 2009, and 2011), a repeated cross-sectional research, and a Chi-squared test was applied to compare SSB consumption in the last year, queried by social demographical, `environmental, behavioral, and parental factors. Multilevel mixed-effects logistic regression was employed to examine the trend and effects of the multiple factors. RESULTS: A total of 6015 Chinese children aged 6-17 years were investigated. From 2004 to 2011, the percentage of SSB consumption in children increased from 72.6% to 90.3%. The prevalence in urban areas was higher than the prevalence in rural areas, higher in high schools than primary and middle schools, higher in east coast affluent provinces than other provinces, and higher in high-income households than low-income households. Other associated factors include children's fast food and salty snacks preference, level of physical activity, sedentariness, and parental education. The strongest association with SSB consumption in children was the mother's SSB consumption (adjusted odds ratio: 5.54, 95% CI: 3.17-9.67). CONCLUSION: Children's SSB consumption has increased significantly in China, and is associated with socio-economic, demographic, level of physical activity, food preference, and parental factors. Future strategies aimed at reducing SSB consumption among children need to consider these factors.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The rapid rise in the prevalence of diabetes has a negative impact on patients' quality of life. Diabetes self-management group education is cost-effective and efficient for patients to control blood glucose. However, there are no consistent standards for self-management group education, and its long-term effects (≥12 months) are unclear. Although a few systematic reviews evaluated the long-term effects, they did not make clear provisions on the content of self-management, and the number and sample size of included studies were small, which may lead to misclassification bias and reporting bias. Therefore, we plan to conduct this systematic review to evaluate the long-term effects of self-management group education and determine the effects of different self-management characteristics on glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c). METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We will retrieve Chinese databases (Wanfang, Chinese Hospital Knowledge Warehouse) and English databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect, EMBASE, Web of Science, Bailian Platform, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Google Scholar) for randomly controlled trials and cluster randomly controlled trials of which participants are adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. We will manually search citation lists and trial registries, and consult authors to obtain relevant articles. The retrieval time range will be from the establishment of the database to July 2020 to avoid omitting relevant studies. The primary outcome will be HbA1c. The secondary outcomes will be fasting plasma glucose, postprandial blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, body mass index, waist circumference and death event. Two reviewers will independently conduct article screening and assessment of risk of bias, with a third reviewer arbitrating if necessary. We will give priority to the use of meta-analysis to evaluate the pooled effects of all outcomes. For the outcomes of unrecognised sources of heterogeneity, missing data and less than three related studies, narrative synthesis approach will be used. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Ethical approval is not required for this systematic review. We plan to present the findings in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, relevant and responsible organisations, and training meetings. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42020209011.

ABSTRACT

Understanding factors that affect the catalytic efficiency and synergism of enzymes is helpful to enhance the process of bioconversion. In this study, birch wood (BW) was sequentially treated by delignification (DL), deacetylation (DA), and decrystallization (DC) treatments. The physiochemical structures of treated BW were characterized. Moreover, the influences of sequential treatments on the catalytic efficiency and synergism of xylanase and cellulase were studied. DL treatments efficiently improved the conversion of cellulose and xylan. A high degree of synergy (DS) between xylanase and cellulase was produced during hydrolysis of DL-treated BW. DA treatments enhanced xylan conversion but reduced the DS between xylanase and cellulase for xylan hydrolysis, whereas DC treatments enhanced cellulose conversion but reduced the DS between xylanase and cellulase for cellulose hydrolysis. The cellulose conversion of lithium chloride/N,N-dimethylacetamide (LiCl/DMAc)-treated BW (89.69%) was higher than the cellulose conversion of ball milling (BM)-treated BW (81.63%), whereas the xylan conversion of LiCl/DMAc-treated BW (83.77%) was lower than the xylan conversion of BM-treated BW (87.21%). This study showed that the catalytic efficiency and synergism of xylanase and cellulase are markedly affected by lignin hindrance, hemicellulose acetylation, and cellulose crystallization.

ABSTRACT

The synergism between cardiomyogenesis and angiogenesis is essential for cardiac regeneration. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play pivotal roles in cell growth and angiogenesis, but their functions in cardiac regeneration are not yet known. In this study, we investigated the role and underlying mechanisms of circRNA Hipk3 (circHipk3) in both cardiomyogenesis and angiogenesis during cardiac regeneration. We found that circHipk3 was overexpressed in the fetal or neonatal heart of mice. The transcription factor Gata4 bound to the circHipk3 promoter and increased circHipk3 expression. Cardiomyocyte (CM) proliferation in vitro and in vivo was inhibited by circHipk3 knockdown and increased by circHipk3 overexpression. Moreover, circHipk3 overexpression promoted coronary vessel endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and tube-forming capacity and subsequent angiogenesis. More importantly, circHipk3 overexpression attenuated cardiac dysfunction and decreased fibrotic area after myocardial infarction (MI). Mechanistically, circHipk3 promoted CM proliferation by increasing Notch1 intracellular domain (N1ICD) acetylation, thereby increasing N1ICD stability and preventing its degradation. In addition, circHipk3 acted as a sponge for microRNA (miR)-133a to promote connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) expression, which activated endothelial cells. Our findings suggested that circHipk3 might be a novel therapeutic target for preventing heart failure post-MI.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To analysis the usage status of salt control spoon and explore its influencing factors among student caregivers of four cities. METHODS: The data of 2014 salt knowledge, attitude, practice(KAP) survey among urban residents in China was used, which a total of 12 848 student caregivers(male 4862, female 7986) were recruited from Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu and Shenyang by stratified random cluster sampling method. A self-filling questionnaire survey was used to collect information about knowledge of salt and usage of salt control spoon. Logistic regression model was used to explore influencing factors of salt control spoon usage effected by gender, education level, family income, salt related knowledge, etc. . RESULTS: The proportion of student caregivers who didn't know salt control spoon was 33. 3%, and 41. 9% of them knew salt control spoon but hadn't it. Only 24. 8% of them have heard of salt control spoon and had it at home. The proportion of having not heard salt control spoon among Wuhan, male, junior high school and below, other occupation and low family income group was higher than other groups. The proportion of having salt control spoon of groups in Guangzhou, female, high school and above, professional technical and clerical personnel, high family income was higher than other groups, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0. 01). Among the student caregivers having salt control spoon, the proportion of did not used salt control spoon, used it occasionally or used it without controlling the quantity and used it often and controlled the quantity was 10. 0%, 60. 6% and 29. 5%, respectively. The student caregivers of Shenyang, male, high family income groups used salt control spoon and controlled the quantity more often than the other groups, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0. 05). As shown in multivariate logistic regression analysis, the OR(95%CI) of high school and above, high income level, knowing the recommended intake of salt, knowing that high salt diet can cause high blood pressure on the influence of having salt control spoon was 1. 328(1. 221-1. 445), 1. 268(1. 029-1. 563), 1. 243(1. 145-1. 348)and 0. 838(0. 763-0. 921), respectively. Among the student caregivers who having salt control spoon, the OR(95%CI) of knowing the recommended intake of salt, knowing that high salt diet can cause high blood pressure, and source of salt control spoon(community/unit, friends/relatives) on the influence of using salt control spoon was 1. 473(1. 259-1. 722), 1. 249(1. 040-1. 501)and 0. 505(0. 415-0. 615)/0. 603(0. 441-0. 823), respectively. CONCLUSION: There still existed lower proportion of awareness and usage of salt control spoon.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To learn the knowledge level on "salt and health", and analyze the influence on related behavior among school teachers in four Chinese cities. METHODS: The data of 2014 salt KAP among urban residents in China was used, with stratified random cluster sampling, a total of 2518(male 708, female 1810) school teachers were selected from four cities of China, including Shenyang, Wuhan, Chengdu and Guangzhou city. Self-filled questionnaire was used to collect the information on the salt intake knowledge and behavior. The statistical software package SAS version 9. 4 was used for data analysis. RESULTS: Among the teachers in four Chinese cities, about 50. 9% of them knew the recommendation of salt intake, about 66. 6% of them knew sodium in the salt may influence health. Approximately 85. 3% of them knew eating long-term salty food may cause hypertension. The proportions of knowing salt intake among female, 40 years and older, below the undergraduate, higher family income teachers were higher than their counterparts(P<0. 05). The proportions of knowing the health influence of sodium among female, higher family income teachers were higher than their counterparts(P<0. 05). The proportions of knowing that eating long-term salty food may cause hypertension among female, undergraduate and above, higher family income teachers were higher than their counterparts(P<0. 05). About 80. 1% of them knew the nutrition labeling on the package food, about 19. 7% of them knew the nutrition labeling contents. Teachers utilized nutrition labeling differently owing to their knowledge on the labeling contents(P<0. 05). In the past three months, about 21. 4% of the teachers always use low-sodium salt when cooking, only 4. 2% of them always control their family's salt intake by using salt control spoon, about 25. 4% of them always choose low-sodium food when purchasing, only 15. 1% of the teachers requested the meals cooked lightly when eating out. The proportions of teachers who used low-sodium salt among female, higher family income, knowing salt intake recommended, knowing the health influence of sodium, knowing that long-term salty food may cause hypertension, active learning related knowledge, family members suffering from hypertension were higher than their counterparts(P<0. 05). The proportions of using salt control spoon among teachers under Bachelor's degree, active learning related knowledge were higher than their counterparts(P<0. 05). The proportions of teachers purchasing low-sodium food among 40 years and older, under Bachelor's degree, higher family income, knowing salt intake recommended, knowing the health influence of sodium, knowing that long-term salty food may cause hypertension, family members not suffering from hypertension, active learning related knowledge were higher than their counterparts(P<0. 05). The proportions of teachers requesting the meals cooked slightly when eating-out among 40 years and older, under Bachelor's degree, not knowing salt intake recommended, not knowing that long-term salty food may cause hypertension, not knowing if their family members suffered from hypertension, active learning related knowledge were higher than their counterparts(P<0. 05). The teachers consumed soy sauce, bean paste, fried bread stick differently owing to their knowledge about this(P<0. 05). CONCLUSION: The teachers in the four cities have grasped some knowledge on salt and health, but their related behaviors should be improved to reduce the salt intake.

ABSTRACT

Recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after liver transplantation (LT) is a significant clinical problem associated with poor surgical outcomes. This study aims to summarize the current evidence on risk prediction models of HCC recurrence after LT. PubMed and EMBASE were searched to May 25, 2019, for relevant articles. Studies originally designed to develop or validate a risk prediction model for HCC recurrence after LT were included. Two independent authors summarized the study characteristics and evaluated the risk of bias and applicability concerns in the included studies. From 26 included studies, 18 original risk prediction models were determined, but only five models were externally validated. The average number of predictors involved in the construction of risk models was three. The most frequently employed predictors were alpha-fetoprotein, tumor size, vascular invasion, tumor number, tumor differentiation, and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio. Most studies showed good discriminatory performance (AUC >0.75). The overall quality of the included studies was generally low. Most of the original models lacked the highly recommended external and prospective validation in diverse populations. The AFP model was the well-validated preoperative risk model that can stratify patients into high- and low-risk groups.
