ABSTRACT

Lignin-based carbon material can be utilized as carbonaceous adsorbents for the removal of toxic gaseous organic pollutants, while the poor heat-resistance limited its widely application. Here in, B-N co-doped lignin carbon (BN-C) with high thermal stability was synthesized, and the optimized BN-C (1:2) exhibited notably improved heat resistance with the decomposition temperature up to 505 °C, and excellent adsorption capacity for o-dichlorobenzene (o-DCB) (1510.0 mg/g) and toluene (947.3 mg/g), together with good cyclic stability over 10 cycles for o-dichlorobenzene. The existence of abundant hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) with good thermal conductivity contributed to the superior heat-resistance of BN-C (1:2), and the high specific surface area (1764.5 m2/g), enriched hydroxyl functional groups and improved graphitization degree contributed to its enhanced adsorption performance. More importantly, BN-C (1:2) supported Ru could effectively remove o-DCB and toluene at wide temperature range (50-300 °C). The present work guided the development of heat-resistant lignin-derived adsorbent-catalyst for gaseous aromatic pollutants removal, which benefits both environmental protection and resource utilization.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Only a subset of patients with severe emphysema qualify for lung volume reduction surgery or endobronchial valves. We previously demonstrated that stereotactic ablative radiation therapy of lung tumors reduces lung volume in treated lobes by creating localized lung fibrosis. We aimed to determine the safety and secondarily explore the efficacy of stereotactic irradiation for lung volume reduction (SILVR) over 18 months after intervention in patients with severe emphysema. METHODS AND MATERIALS: We conducted a single-arm, prospective clinical trial in eligible patients with severe emphysema treated with unilateral stereotactic ablative radiation therapy (45 Gy in 3 fractions) to a target within the most emphysematous region. The primary outcome was safety in terms of incidence of grade ≥3 adverse events, and the secondary outcome was efficacy. RESULTS: Eight patients received the intervention. Median (range) baseline characteristics were age 73 years (63-78); forced expiratory volume in 1 second percent of predicted value (FEV1%) 28.5% (19.0-42.0); diffusing capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide percent of predicted value 40% (24.0-67.0); and body mass index, airflow obstruction, dyspnea, and exercise capacity (BODE) index 5.5 (5-9). The incidence of grade ≥3 adverse events was 3 of 8 (37.5%). The relative change in target lobe volume was -23.1% (-1.6 to -41.5) and -26.5% (-20.6 to -40.8) at 6 and 18 months, respectively. The absolute ΔFEV1% was greater in patients with a BODE index ≤5 versus ≥6 (+12.0% vs -2.0%). The mean baseline lung density (in Hounsfield units, reflecting the amount of preserved parenchyma) within the intermediate dose volume (V60BED3) correlated with the absolute change in target lobe volume at 18 months. CONCLUSIONS: SILVR appears to be safe, with a signal for efficacy as a novel therapeutic alternative for patients with severe emphysema. SILVR may be most safe and effective in patients with a lower BODE index and/or less parenchymal destruction.

ABSTRACT

Thyroid cancer is the endocrine tumor with the highest incidence at present. It originates from the thyroid follicular epithelium or follicular paraepithelial cells. There is an increasing incidence of thyroid cancer all over the world. We found that SRPX2 expression level was higher in papillary thyroid tumors than in normal thyroid tissues, and SRPX2 expression was closely related to tumor grade and clinical prognosis. Previous reports showed that SRPX2 could function by activating PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. In addition, in vitro experiments showed that SRPX2 promoted the proliferation and migration of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). In conclusion, SRPX2 could promote the malignant development of PTC. This may be a potential treatment target for PTC.

ABSTRACT

STMN1 belongs to the stathmin gene family, it encodes a cytoplasmic phosphorylated protein, stathmin1, which is commonly observed in vertebrate cells. STMN1 is a structural microtubule-associated protein (MAP) that binds to microtubule protein dimers rather than microtubules, with each STMN1 binding two microtubule protein dimers and preventing their aggregation, leading to microtubule instability. STMN1 expression is elevated in a number of malignancies, and inhibition of its expression can interfere with tumor cell division. Its expression can change the division of tumor cells, thereby arresting cell growth in the G2/M phase. Moreover, STMN1 expression affects tumor cell sensitivity to anti-microtubule drug analogs, including vincristine and paclitaxel. The research on MAPs is limited, and new insights on the mechanism of STMN1 in different cancers are emerging. The effective application of STMN1 in cancer prognosis and treatment requires further understanding of this protein. Here, we summarize the general characteristics of STMN1 and outline how STMN1 plays a role in cancer development, targeting multiple signaling networks and acting as a downstream target for multiple microRNAs, circRNAs, and lincRNAs. We also summarize recent findings on the function role of STMN1 in tumor resistance and as a therapeutic target for cancer.

ABSTRACT

Histones are DNA-binding basic proteins found in chromosomes. After the histone translation, its amino tail undergoes various modifications, such as methylation, acetylation, phosphorylation, ubiquitination, malonylation, propionylation, butyrylation, crotonylation, and lactylation, which together constitute the "histone code." The relationship between their combination and biological function can be used as an important epigenetic marker. Methylation and demethylation of the same histone residue, acetylation and deacetylation, phosphorylation and dephosphorylation, and even methylation and acetylation between different histone residues cooperate or antagonize with each other, forming a complex network. Histone-modifying enzymes, which cause numerous histone codes, have become a hot topic in the research on cancer therapeutic targets. Therefore, a thorough understanding of the role of histone post-translational modifications (PTMs) in cell life activities is very important for preventing and treating human diseases. In this review, several most thoroughly studied and newly discovered histone PTMs are introduced. Furthermore, we focus on the histone-modifying enzymes with carcinogenic potential, their abnormal modification sites in various tumors, and multiple essential molecular regulation mechanism. Finally, we summarize the missing areas of the current research and point out the direction of future research. We hope to provide a comprehensive understanding and promote further research in this field.

ABSTRACT

Cyclin-dependent kinase 16 (CDK16) is an orphan "cyclin-dependent kinase" (CDK) involved in the cell cycle, vesicle trafficking, spindle orientation, skeletal myogenesis, neurite outgrowth, secretory cargo transport, spermatogenesis, glucose transportation, cell apoptosis, cell growth and proliferation, metastasis, and autophagy. Human CDK16 is located on chromosome Xp11.3 and is related to X-linked congenital diseases. CDK16 is commonly expressed in mammalian tissues and may act as an oncoprotein. It is a PCTAIRE kinase in which Cyclin Y or its homologue, Cyclin Y-like 1, regulates activity by binding to the N- and C- terminal regions of CDK16. CDK16 plays a vital role in various cancers, including lung cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, malignant melanoma, and hepatocellular carcinoma. CDK16 is a promising biomarker for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. In this review, we summarized and discussed the roles and mechanisms of CDK16 in human cancers.

ABSTRACT

Background: Since entering the 21st century, there has been an increasing interest in minimally invasive surgery for spinal diseases, which has led to the continued development of minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS), with major breakthroughs in technology and technical skills. However, in recent years, there is little relevant research using bibliometrics to analyze the field of MISS research. The purpose of this study is to sort out the publication situation and topic trends of articles in the field of MISS research from the perspective of bibliometrics. Methods: The articles and reviews related to MISS from 2000 to 2022 were retrieved and downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC). Visualization and knowledge mapping were performed using three bibliometric tools, including online bibliometric platform, CiteSpace and VOSviewer software. Curve fitting and correlation analysis were performed using Microsoft Excel software. The global research publication output, contributions of countries, institutions, authors, and journals, average citations per item (ACI), Hirsch index (H-index), research hot keywords, etc., in this field were analyzed. Results: A total of 2384 papers were retrieved, including 2135 original papers and 249 review papers. In the past 22 years, the number of annual publications of MISS research has shown a steady growth trend. China contributed the most papers, and the United States ranked second, but the United States had the highest total citations, and H-index value. The most prolific institutions were Soochow University, Capital Medical University and Wooridul Spine Hospital. In this field, Professors Lee SH, Ahn Y and Yang HL have made significant achievements. However, there is relatively little international collaboration between institutions or researchers. World Neurosurgery is the most published journal on MISS research. According to the keyword co-occurrence analysis, recent keywords mainly focus on researches on minimally invasive modalities, techniques and prognosis, while on the keyword analysis of the ongoing bursts, percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy, lumbar diskectomy, spinal stenosis, recompression, diskectomy, endoscopic spine surgery, laminectomy, transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion, etc., will likely continue to be a research hotspot in the near future. Conclusion: Looking at the temporal trend in the number of publications per year, the number of publications for the MISS study will increase in the near future. China has the highest number of publications, but the US has the highest quality publications. International cooperation needs to be further strengthened. Our findings can provide useful information for the academic community and identify possible research fronts and hotspots in the coming years.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary vein sign (PVS) indicates abnormal pulmonary venous flow on computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) is a frequent finding in proximal chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). PVS's occurrence in distal CTEPH and correlation to disease severity is unknown. Using right heart catheterization data, we evaluated the relationship between PVS and CTEPH disease distribution and severity. MATERIALS AND METHOD: A total of 93 consecutive CTEPH cases with both CTPA and right heart catheterization were identified in this retrospective multi-institutional study. After excluding 17 cases with suboptimal CTPA, there were 52 proximal and 24 distal CTEPH cases. Blood flow in the major pulmonary veins was graded qualitatively. Subgroup analysis of PVS was performed in 38 proximal CTEPH cases before and after pulmonary endarterectomy. RESULTS: PVS was more frequent in proximal (79%) than distal CTEPH (29%) ( P <0.001). No significant difference was noted in invasive mean pulmonary artery pressure (46±11 and 41±12 mm Hg) or pulmonary vascular resistance (9.4±4.5 and 8.4±4.8 WU) between the 2 groups. In the subgroup analysis, PVS was present in 29/38 patients (76%) before surgery. Postoperatively, 33/38 cases (87%, P <0.001) had normal venous flow (mean pulmonary artery pressure 46±11 and 25; pulmonary vascular resistance 9.2±4.3 and 2.6 WU preop and postop, respectively). CONCLUSION: PVS is a common feature in proximal but infrequent findings in distal CTEPH. PVS does not correlate with hemodynamic severity. PVS resolution was seen in the majority of patients following successful endarterectomy.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Quantitative biomarkers from chest computed tomography (CT) can facilitate the incidental detection of important diseases. Atrial fibrillation (AFib) substantially increases the risk for comorbid conditions including stroke. This study investigated the relationship between AFib status and left atrial enlargement (LAE) on CT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 500 consecutive patients who had undergone nongated chest CTs were included, and left atrium maximal axial cross-sectional area (LA-MACSA), left atrium anterior-posterior dimension (LA-AP), and vertebral body cross-sectional area (VB-Area) were measured. Height, weight, age, sex, and diagnosis of AFib were obtained from the medical record. Parametric statistical analyses and receiver operating characteristic curves were performed. Machine learning classifiers were run with clinical risk factors and LA measurements to predict patients with AFib. RESULTS: Eighty-five patients with a diagnosis of AFib were identified. Mean LA-MACSA and LA-AP were significantly larger in patients with AFib than in patients without AFib (28.63 vs. 20.53 cm 2 , P <0.000001; 4.34 vs. 3.5 cm, P <0.000001, respectively), both with area under the curves (AUCs) of 0.73. Multivariable logistic regression analysis including age, sex, and VB-Area with LA-MACSA improved the AUC for predicting AFib (AUC=0.77). An LA-MACSA threshold of 30 cm 2 demonstrated high specificity for AFib diagnosis at 92% and sensitivity of 48%, and LA-AP threshold at 4.5 cm demonstrated 90% specificity and 42% sensitivity. A Bayesian machine learning model using age, sex, height, body surface area, and LA-MACSA predicted AFib with an AUC of 0.743. CONCLUSIONS: LA-MACSA or LA-AP can be rapidly measured from routine chest CT, and when >30 cm 2 and >4.5 cm, respectively, are specific indicators to predict patients at increased risk for AFib.

STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review and meta-analysis. OBJECTIVE: Minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF) is a classic surgical procedure for the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases (LDD). With the development of endoscopic technology, endoscopic transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (Endo-TLIF) can also achieve adequate decompression and interbody fusion. However, whether Endo-TLIF is superior to MIS-TLIF has not been adequately studied. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we aimed to evaluate the treatment difference between Endo-TLIF vs MIS-TLIF. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the studies to compare the clinical outcomes and complications associated with Endo-TLIF vs. MIS-TLIF for the treatment of LDD. A literature search was conducted using the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and Scopus databases for studies published up to April 1, 2022. Both retrospective and prospective studies that compared between Endo-TLIF and MIS-TLIF were included. RESULTS: A total of 8 studies involving 581 patients were finally included in this meta-analysis. Endo-TLIF significantly prolonged the operation time, but reduced the blood loss amount and length of hospital stay. Moreover, Endo-TLIF was superior to MIS-TLIF on relief of back pain and functional recovery in the early postoperative period. However, there were no significantly differences in long-term clinical outcomes, fusion rate and incidence of complications between Endo-TLIF and MIS-TLIF. CONCLUSIONS: Endo-TLIF was similar to MIS-TLIF in the long-term clinical outcomes, fusion and complication rates. Endo-TLIF prolongs the operation time, but shortens the length of hospital stay, and has the advantages of less surgical trauma, less blood loss, faster recovery, and early postoperative back pain relief.

ABSTRACT: DOTATATE PET/CT is frequently used to evaluate indeterminant pulmonary nodules suspected to be pulmonary carcinoid. We report an unexpected case of pulmonary hamartoma demonstrating 64Cu-DOTATATE uptake in a 43-year-old woman with a slowly enlarging pulmonary nodule. Histopathological staining showed somatostatin receptor 2 expression on vascular endothelial cells and a proportion of cartilage and smooth muscle cells within the hamartoma.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: To investigate the safety and feasibility of gasless axillary parathyroid surgery in the treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism. Methods: A total of 12 patients who received gasless axillary parathyroidectomy (endoscope group) and 14 patients who received traditional open parathyroidectomy (open group) from January 2019 to April 2022 were screened and included. The differences in baseline characteristics, surgical efficiency, incidence rate of complications, changes in biochemical indicators, and incision satisfaction between the two groups were analyzed and compared. Results: The proportion of young patients was higher in the endoscopic group than in the open group, and the difference was statistically significant [(41.33 ± 13.65) years vs. (58.00 ± 9.44) years, P < 0.01]. The differences in operation time, intra-operative blood loss, post-operative drainage volume, hospital stay, and surgical efficiency between the two groups yielded no statistical significance (P > 0.05). Patients in the open group had more significant neck pain 3 days after surgery (P = 0.046), but the degree of pain 3 months after surgery was the same in the 2 groups (P = 0.432). Evaluation of post-operative mature stage scar and incision satisfaction regarding aesthetics in the endoscope group were significantly superior to that in the open group [(1.92 ± 0.92) points vs. (0.92 ± 1.00) points, P = 0.017 and (1.57 ± 0.51) points vs. (1.00 ± 0.013) points, P = 0.013, respectively]. No statistical significance was found in terms of incidence rate of post-operative fever (P > 0.05). No temporary recurrent laryngeal nerve injury, post-operative bleeding, incision hematoma infection, or other complications were observed. Comparing the two groups, the extent of the level decrease of PTH was similar to that of serum calcium and phosphorus (P < 0.05), where most patients experienced transient hypocalcemia after operation yielding no significant difference in incidence (P = 0.225). During a follow-up period of 3 to 36 months, a total of 1 patient in the open group experienced recurrence at 10 months after surgery and was treated non-surgically. Conclusion: Gasless axillary approach to parathyroid surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism possesses good safety and patient satisfaction in terms of aesthetics.

Background: This study sought to clarify the role of Runt-related transcription factor 1's (RUNX1's) regulation of downstream circular ribonucleic acid (circRNA) in the occurrence and development of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and to explore its mechanism of action. Methods: The levels of RUNX1 were analyzed in PTC tumor tissues and adjacent non-tumor tissues in different types and at different stages via reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). The expression pattern and functional role of RUNX1 were analyzed in PTC cells via RT-qPCR, Western blotting, and Transwell assays. This study explored the differential expression of circRNA and microRNA (miRNA) in cells after knocking down RUNX1 through high-throughput sequencing and examined the changes in downstream signaling pathways through Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses. Results: RUNX1 was upregulated in PTC tissues, and the expression levels of RUNX1 were related to PTC stage. The knockdown of RUNX1 inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of cells. The high-throughput sequencing results showed that after RUNX1 knockdown, 29 circRNAs (11 upregulated and 18 downregulated) and 20 miRNAs (8 upregulated and 12 downregulated) had the most significant differential expression. The GO analysis of the differential circRNA downstream genes showed that the iron channel-related pathways, endosomal transport, learning, and memory pathways had the largest number of differential genes, and the most significant changes. The KEGG analysis showed that there were 2 pathways with P values <0.05; that is, the glycosaminoglycan synthesis and transcription dysregulation pathways. The GO analysis of the differential miRNA downstream genes showed that the protein binding and cytoplasmic pathways had the largest number of differential genes and the greatest level of difference. The KEGG analysis showed that the tumor-related pathways, phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase and protein kinase B, glycoprotein, cytoskeleton, Ras, and Rap1 pathways changed the most significantly. Conclusions: RUNX1 is highly expressed in PTC. We conducted high-throughput sequencing to analyze the effect of knocking down RUNX1 on the levels of circRNA and miRNA in PTC. The GO and KEGG analyses revealed that the iron channel-related pathways, endosomal transport, learning and memory, glycosaminoglycan synthesis, and transcriptional disorder-related signaling pathways were enriched.

BACKGROUND: Reconstruction of soft tissue defects following surgical tumor resection is important for quality of life in cancer patients with oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). This study presents a novel computer-aided reconstruction of soft tissue (CARST) technology employed with these patients. METHODS: We first described the CARST technology in detail in a report of a 34-year-old male patient with locally invasive right-sided tongue SCC following a nearly total glossectomy and reported the postoperative outcomes. This digital technology was applied to construct a 3D model from CT images, which was used to delineate surgical resection boundaries and design a personalized reconstruction of the soft tissue defect. A nonuniform rational B-spline (NURBS) was generated and applied to transform the 3D model into a 2D flap-cutting guide printed out using a 3D printer. We then reported a case-series study on oral and oropharyngeal SCC patients who were randomly assigned to receive the CARST (n = 15) or a traditional soft tissue reconstruction (n = 15). Clinicopathological features and short- and long-term postoperative outcomes between the two groups were compared. RESULTS: The patient with the tongue SCC had a successful CARST following surgical tumor resection without any complications. His speech and swallowing functions recovered well after surgery and he experienced no significant changes to his appearance following recovery. There was no recurrence within a 3-year follow-up period. Results of the case-series study showed that the CARST group had significantly shorter operative and post-operation hospital-stay time, a higher flap utilization rate, and a trend of less and milder postoperative complications, and they experienced no significant difference in intraoperative blood loss and long-term outcomes compared to the traditional group. CONCLUSION: CARST is a safer and more efficient personalized technology of soft tissue reconstruction following surgical tumor resection in patients with oral and oropharyngeal SCC.

ABSTRACT

The development of cost-efficient catalysts with good catalytic activity is an urgent task for polychlorinated aromatic hydrocarbon (PCAH) oxidation. Herein, atomically dispersed Ru catalysts (denoted as Ru ADCs) proved by aberration corrected high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy were synthesized for PCAH oxidation. The oxidation results showed that 0.2 Ru ADCs exhibited enhanced catalytic activity (T50% < 250 °C, T90% < 300 °C) compared with the T90% > 300 °C on 0.2 Ru nanoparticles (NPs). Besides, 0.2 Ru ADCs demonstrated high CO2 yield with >60% CO2 ratio, along with good stability (>80% conversion for 800 mins). The better performance of 0.2 Ru ADCs was verified by kinetic experiments, in which, the apparent activation energy associated with 0.2 Ru ADCs (50.8 kJ mol-1) was significantly lower compared with that with 0.2 Ru NPs (80.0 kJ mol-1). The superior oxidation activity of 0.2 Ru ADCs was also applied to toluene oxidation. H2 temperature-programmed reduction ensured the stronger interaction of Ru species with the supports in Ru ADCs than that in Ru NPs, thus inhibiting Ru species aggregation and favoring their higher dispersion ensured by CO temperature-programmed desorption. The present work provides a potential strategy to maximize the usage of noble metal catalysts for PCAH oxidation.

ABSTRACT

Morphology engineering was an effective strategy for 1,2-dichlorobenzene (o-DCB) oxidation. Herein, TiO2 nanosheet supported MnCeOx (TiMn15Ce30-NS) showed excellent catalytic activity with T50% = 156 °C and T90% = 238 °C, which was better than the T50% = 213 °C and T90% = 247 °C for TiO2 nano truncated octahedron supported MnCeOx (TiMn15Ce30-NTO). TiMn15Ce30-NS also exhibited enhanced water resistance (T50% = 179 °C, T90% = 240 °C), and good stability with the o-DCB conversion retained at 98.9% for 12 h at 350 °C. The excellent catalytic activity of TiMn15Ce30-NS could be mainly ascribed to the preferentially exposed {001} crystal plane and Ce addition which favored the higher concentration of Mn4+ and surface active oxygen, along with stronger interaction between MnOx and CeOx. The present results deepen the understanding of the morphology-dependent effect on o-DCB oxidation.

ABSTRACT

AIM: Whole transcriptome analysis was conducted to identify differentially expressed RNAs and regulatory networks associated with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). METHODS: A weighted gene co-expression network analysis based on high-throughput sequencing data for six pairs of PTC and adjacent tissue samples was conducted to understand the biological functions and regulatory networks involving long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), circular RNAs (circRNAs), microRNAs (miRNAs), and messenger RNAs (mRNAs). RESULTS: We detected 131, 338, 31, and 556 differentially expressed circRNAs, lncRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs, respectively. We identified modules that were significantly positively and negatively related to cancer and lymph node metastasis. Gray and turquoise modules were positively correlated with cancer phenotypes (p < 0.05), whereas yellow, brown, and blue modules were negatively correlated with cancer (p < 0.05). Gray module was positively correlated with lateral lymph node metastasis (p = 0.02). Kaplan-Meier analyses revealed that the levels of transmembrane protein 63C (TMEM63C), lysyl oxidase-like 1 (LOXL1), collagen type V alpha 1 chain (COL5A1), ADAM metalloproteinase with thrombospondin type I motif 2 (ADAMTS2), and LysM-domain containing 3 (LYSMD3) were significantly associated with overall survival (p < 0.05). Significant increase in the expression of COL5A1 and LOXL1 in tumor tissues was validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (p < 0.05). COL5A1 and LOXL1 promoted PTC cell growth and invasion in vitro. CONCLUSIONS: We identified COL5A1 and LOXL1 as potential prognostic biomarkers, providing new insights into the occurrence and progression of PTC.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is a subtype of thyroid cancer with increasing incidence over time. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to build a risk score (RS) system for PTC patients. METHODS: PTC microRNA (miRNA) and messenger RNA (mRNA) expression data were extracted from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. The 491 PTC samples were randomly divided into training and validation sets. Using the limma software package, differentially expressed mRNAs (DEGs) and miRNAs (DEMs) between the tumor and control groups were screened. In order to construct an RS system, a survival package was used to select independent miRNAs related to prognosis. Enrichment analysis was performed, and a miRNA-mRNA co-expression network was constructed. High-throughput sequencing was also used to verify the prognostic miRNAs in exosomes. RESULTS: We found 1363 DEGs and 171 DEMs between the tumor and control groups. After identifying 26 DEMs significantly related to prognosis, 6 independent prognosis-associated miRNAs were selected to build an RS system. The areas under the curves of the overall survival rates of the training, validation, and entire sets were 0.847, 0.772, and 0.819, respectively. By conducting pathway analysis using the miRNA-mRNA co-expression network, one overlapping factor and five overlapping pathways were obtained. In addition, high-throughput sequencing revealed that the hsa-miR-129-2, hsa-miR-548j, hsa-miR-6734, and hsa-miR-889 expression levels in TCGA tumor tissues and exosomes were consistent, and those of hsa-miR-129-2 and hsa-miR- 889 between patients and controls were significantly different in exosomes. CONCLUSION: The six-miRNA RS system in exosomes may comprise independent signatures for predicting PTC patient prognosis.

ABSTRACT

The development of highly-efficient photocatalyst for H2 production integrated with microplastic degradation is significant to meet the demand for clean energy and resolve "white pollution". Herein, a series of MXene/ZnxCd1-xS photocatalysts were successfully fabricated for H2 evolution integrated with degradation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The resultant photocatalysts exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance, and the best photocatalytic H2 evolution rate can reach 14.17 mmol·g-1·h-1 in alkaline PET alkaline solution. What's more, the PET was also converted to the useful organic micromolecule, including glycolate, acetate, ethanol, etc. The highly-efficient photocatalytic performance of MXene/ZnxCd1-xS photocatalysts can be attributed to the enhanced separation ability of photocarriers and optimum band structure with enhanced oxidation capacity of valence band. Finally, the photocatalytic mechanism was investigated in detail. Overall, this work supplied a new useful guidance for solving the energy problem and microplastic pollution issues, simultaneously.
