ABSTRACT

The defects and strain of the buried SnO2/perovskite interface seriously affects the performances of n-i-p type perovskite solar cells. Herein, caesium closo-dodecaborate (B12H12Cs2) is introduced into buried interface to improve the device performances. B12H12Cs2 can passivate the bilateral defects of the buried interface, including the oxygen vacancy and uncoordinated Sn2+ defects on SnO2 side and the uncoordinated Pb2+ defects on perovskite side. Three-dimensional aromatic B12H12Cs2 can promote the interface charge transfer and extraction. [B12H12]2- can enhance the interface connection of buried interface by forming B-H---H-N dihydrogen bond and coordination bonds with metal ions. Meanwhile, the crystal properties of perovskite films can be improved and the buried tensile strain can be released by B12H12Cs2 due to the matched lattice between B12H12Cs2 and perovskite. In addition, Cs+ can diffuse into perovskite to reduce the hysteresis behavior by inhibiting the I- migration. Arising from the enhanced connection performances, passivated defects, improved perovskite crystallization, enhanced charge extraction, inhibited ions migration, released tensile strain at buried interface by B12H12Cs2, the corresponding devices yield a champion power conversion efficiency of 22.10% with enhanced stability. The stability of devices by B12H12Cs2 modification have been improved, and it can still maintain 72.5% of the original efficiency after 1440 h, while the control devices can only maintain 20% of the original efficiency after aging in air condition of 20-30% RH.

ABSTRACT

Although great progress has been made in perovskite solar cells (PCSs), further development of PCSs is hindered by a large number of defects, nonradiative recombination, and mysterious stresses. Here, we propose a new interfacial strategy by introducing a new polymer material named povidone-iodine (PV-I) as a buffer layer. A series of studies indicate that the introduced buffer layer can form a strong chemical interaction with SnO2 and the perovskite, which can not only passivate the defects of the two functional layers but also strengthen the interfacial connection. The reduction of film defects and the enhancement of interface connection are beneficial to the extraction and transport of the carrier. In addition, the introduction of a buffer layer releases the interfacial stress. Ultimately, we achieved attractive efficiency (22.02%, 0.1 cm2) and considerable long-term stability (after aging 500 h, the target device still retains 81% of its original PCE). The excellent performance of the device indicates that this strategy can be used as an effective control method for perovskite solar cells to facilitate their commercialization.

ABSTRACT

Negatively surface-charged sulfate cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are always slowly self-assembled into left-handed cholesteric mesophases. In this work, macroscopic spiral patterns induced by counterclockwise vortex flowing or chiral doping were investigated. Results show that iridescent patterns of the arithmetic spiral, rose spiral, or latitude ripples were generated under the vortex rotation, indicating a severe microphase separation of CNCs. Moreover, the spiral pattern and rotational symmetry were highly correlated to the twisting and flowability of CNCs as well as chiral dopants. Alternatively, the cholesteric pitch and maximum reflective wavelength (λmax) of CNCs were strongly increased by sinistral dopants other than the dextral ones, indicating an enhanced torsion of left-handed CNC mesophases by the dextral dopants. In addition, macroscopic spiral patterns distinctly existed in dextrally doped CNCs owing to a synergistic chiral enhancement. Therefore, the mechanochiral or chemical chiral transition from microscopic twisting to macroscopic spiral provides a potential inspiration for chiral self-organization of biological macromolecules.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of mHealth management with an implantable glucose sensor and a mobile application among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in China. METHODS: A randomised controlled trial was carried out to compare the effectiveness of usual health management to mHealth management based on a model that consisted of the network platform, an implantable glucose sensor and a mobile app featuring guidance from general practitioners (GPs) over a four-week period. Patients (N=68) with T2DM were randomly divided into an intervention group and a control group. Before the intervention, there was no difference in body mass index (BMI), fasting blood glucose (FBG), postprandial two-hour blood glucose (2hPG) and glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c) between the intervention group and the control group (p>0.05). Patients in the control group received their usual health management, while patients in the intervention group received mHealth management. RESULTS: After health management, the mean BMI, FBG, 2hPG and HbA1c of the intervention group patients were all lower than those of the control group patients (p < 0.05), and the quality of life and self-management of the intervention group patients had significantly improved. DISCUSSION: mHealth management effectively showed significant reductions in BMI, FBG, 2hPG and HbA1c and improved quality of life and self-management among patients, which may be related to real-time feedback from an implantable glucose sensor and guidance from GPs through a mobile app. mHealth management is a very promising way to promote the health management of T2DM in China, and this study provides a point of reference for mHealth management abroad.

ABSTRACT

A Rb2SO4 additive is employed to passivate the Pb2+ defects in a perovskite film by forming PbSO4in situ, which can cover the surface and grain boundaries of the perovskite to ensure that the film is not decomposed by moisture. Finally, a device based on the Rb2SO4 modification achieved an enhanced power conversion efficiency (22.25%) and long-term stability.

ABSTRACT

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have achieved huge success in power conversion efficiency (PCE) and stability. However, further improving the PCE of PSCs and stability is still a big challenge. Here, we attempt to improve the PCE and stability of PSCs using a functional additive named 3-mercaptopropyltriethoxysilane (SiSH) in the perovskite antisolvent. It is revealed that SiSH can release the stress in the film, reduce the defects, and inhibit lithium-ion migration and lead leakage. As a result, the target device achieves an efficiency enhancement from 20.80 to 22.42% as compared to the control device. Meanwhile, device stability is ameliorated after SiSH modification. Furthermore, new adsorbents are used to treat the leaked lead to make it comply with safe drinking water standards. This work provides an idea for developing multifunctional antisolvent additives and adsorbents for high PCE, long stability, and environment-friendly Pb-based PSCs.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to elucidate the status of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) healthcare services provided in nursing homes across China. We investigated 484 nursing homes using self-compiled questionnaires with a convenient sampling method. Chi-squared and Wilcoxon rank-sum tests were used for univariate analysis and binary logistic regression for multi-factor analysis. Of the 443 nursing homes finally included, 215 (48.5%) provided TCM healthcare services. Nursing home leaders majored in integrated TCM and Western medicine, leaders with a better understanding of TCM and government policies, nursing homes charging over 5,000 CNY/month, and those with ≥500 beds were more likely to provide improved TCM healthcare services. Massage, moxibustion, cupping or scraping, plaster therapy, decocting pieces, and acupuncture were the most prevalent and popular TCM services. Lack of professionals, financial investment, and policy support were the most common factors limiting the provision of TCM healthcare services in Chinese nursing homes.

ABSTRACT

As an eco-friendly sustainable iridescent coating, cholesteric cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) is susceptible to substrate effects or shearing effects. In this work, interface interaction and liquid crystal phase transition were evaluated for fabricating iridescent cast or shear coatings of CNCs onto substrates of polystyrene, glass, ceramic, wood, stainless steel, metal, or metal alloy. Three types of substrate effects and four categories of shearing effects on the structure color mechanism of CNC coatings were proposed. Practically, several efficient approaches, such as increasing colloidal concentration, enhancing water-retention of substrates, raising processing temperature, slowing down shearing speed, or doping functional additives were involved. Hence, a feasible strategy was provided for preparing sustainable, iridescent, stable, and industrially scalable coatings of CNCs.

ABSTRACT

To justify attraction to Dominant Traditional Masculinities (DTM) and lack of attraction to non-aggressive men, some women defend opinions such as "there are no frigid women, only inexperienced men". Such statements generate a large amount of sexual-affective insecurity in oppressed men and contribute to decoupling desire and ethics in sexual-affective relationships, which, in turn, reinforces a model of attraction to traditional masculinities that use coercion, thus perpetuating gender-based violence. New Alternative Masculinities (NAM) represent a type of masculinity that reacts to reverse such consequences with communicative acts, in which they state that women who support such discourses have never met a NAM man or have never experienced a successful sexual-affective relationship where passion, love, desire, and equality are all included. This article presents data analyzing these communicative acts (exclusory and transformative; language employed and consequences) to ultimately find the key to NAM communication that would contribute to changing attraction patterns. The data was collected using communicative daily life stories of three heterosexual white men and one heterosexual white woman, between the ages of 30 and 40. Findings emphasize the importance of self-confidence manifested by NAM men when communicating about sex and facing these offensive mottos in the presence of other men and women. Findings also demonstrate that supportive egalitarian relationships encourage the emergence of self-confidence in NAM men and that NAM men's self-confident communicative acts foster healthy relationships and obliterate coercive ones.

ABSTRACT

With the support of the Chinese government, nursing homes have increasingly adopted Internet and intelligent information technology to provide daily healthcare services to residents. However, no research has reported the status of intelligent healthcare in nursing homes. From September 2017 to May 2018, we conducted a survey of 197 nursing homes and collected information on their general characteristics, the intelligent healthcare services provided, the effectiveness of the application products used, and the attitudes of the staff and residents toward intelligent healthcare. Overall, 79.69% of the surveyed nursing homes have provided intelligent healthcare services, including medical care services (eg, chronic disease management and intelligent nursing) and daily life services (eg, fall monitoring and wireless positioning). Portable health monitoring devices and data management and service platforms are the most used healthcare products. The attitudes of staff probably affected the development of intelligent healthcare. Financial investment and the attitudes of staff and residents are factors that influence the effectiveness of the application of intelligent healthcare products in nursing homes. With the support of national policies, nursing homes have implemented primary intelligent healthcare. Stakeholders play pivotal roles in the provision of intelligent healthcare services.

ABSTRACT

A mechanical disintegration of waste wood biomass and freeze-induced assembly of colloidal nanowood were effectively deployed to explore ion-associated cellular foams (NWFs) with unidirectional channels. Under the assistance of inorganic ions, the as-fabricated foams were significantly enhanced in physical stability, compressive strength, flame retardancy, and thermal barrier, accounting for the tuning effects of pores and channels, surface charges, and microphase interaction by ion effects and freeze orientation. As a result, the vascular-like ion-doped channels benefited from quick capillary liquid transport. Under 1 sun illumination, NWF-V as a 3-D evaporator exhibited a high evaporation rate of 1.50 kg m-2 h-1 and a conversion efficiency of up to 88.9% for seawater desalination. Dramatically, an average of 12.5 kg m-2 of fresh water could be generated on each sunny day by outdoor NWFs for durability beyond 15 days. Under the drive of fuel combustion, an efficient conveying of ethanol or pump oil could be at rates of 0.44 and 0.26 mL min-1, respectively. Moreover, combustion flame with variable color was generated according to the doping cations in NWFs. Therefore, sustainable, green, facile, and multifunctional wood-based cellular foams could be tailored, scaled-up, and applied as color flame burners or desalination evaporators under combustion or solar drive in the energy and environment fields.

ABSTRACT

Polycationic chitosan has a strong coordination to heavy metal ions due to its multifunctional hydroxyl and amino groups. However, due to the fast and facile dissolution of chitosan in acidic medium, it is difficult to measure the exact adsorption amount or coordination capacity accurately. In this work, a simple method of lyophilization plus ethanol-washing was employed to separate and purify chitosan/Cr(III) complex for further determining the coordination capacity. Meanwhile, the coordination structure of Bridge-chitosan-N(OH)3(H2O) and morphology of regenerated fibrillar sponge of CS/Cr(III) were further certified. The coordination capacity of Cr(III) on chitosan increased with the rising concentration of Cr(III) ions till the maximum coordination capacity was reached up to 355.03 mg/g. The mechanisms and characteristic parameters of the adsorption process were fit using two-parameter isotherm models which revealed the following order (based on the coefficient of determination) of Langmuir > Halsey > Freundlich > Temkin > Dubinin-Radushkevich. A proposed coordination formula of CS/Cr (III) might be a good certificate for the homogeneous chemical combination nature of Cr(III) on the monolayer surface of chitosan in a molecular scale.
