ABSTRACT

The thermoluminescence (TL) of neodymium-doped gallium sulfide (GaS:Nd) single crystals was measured from 10 K to room temperature with various heating rates between 0.2 and 1.0 K/sec. Two peaks centered at 70.9 K and 116.0 K were observed when using a heating rate of 0.8 K/sec. Initial rise and curve fitting methods were used to obtain information on trap activation energies. Activation energies of 94 and 216 meV were found for two analyzable peaks. The heating rate dependencies of TL intensities revealed that one of the observed peaks showed normal behavior according to the one trap-one recombination model, whereas the other model showed anomalous heating rate behavior. TL experiments were also carried out at different illumination temperatures from 10 to 32 K; maximum peak temperature remained almost the same at various illumination temperatures. This behavior indicated that the revealed trapping centers are single, discrete levels. The TL glow curves of undoped GaS crystals were also investigated and the effect of Nd doping on the TL characteristics of crystals is discussed in the manuscript.

ABSTRACT

Analysis of literature data about development of cortical inhibition allows suggesting that synaptical inhibition of cerebral cortex neurons begins to be realized almost simultaneously with beginning of their generation of background activity. From the moment of the appearance of inhibitory processes there have been functioning all kinds of cortical inhibition. Thereby, the main mechanisms realizing cortical inhibition in the mature cerebral cortex begin functioning from the moment of its inclusion in ontogenesis.

ABSTRACT

Sensitivity of ECoG of sensorimotor cortex of 28-day rabbit foetus in different periods (prefetal and fetal) of embryogenesis to hypoxia impact was studied. In the foetus subjected to hypoxia during prefetal period (8-18th days) in the spectrum of the general activity the increase of slow waves, occupying little portion of the spectrum, is noticed, while the main delta-rhythm has more clear pattern. At the same time, hypoxia, undertaken in the fetal period (18-28th days) does not have significant effect on ECoG indexes. On the basis of our own and literature data one can propose tha high sensitivity of ECoG to oxygen deficiency is due to low stability of the brain cortex itself and subcortical white matter to hypoxic inpairement in early embriogenesis.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To study correlations between glycemia and duration of ventricular repolarization in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Parallel monitoring of ECG and glycemia was conducted in 43 type 1 MD patients (age 7-17 years, 12.8 +/- 2.7) and 37 healthy children and adolescents. RESULTS: Glycemia under 3 mmol/l and over 19 mmol/l is associated with significantly longer QTc interval compare to other blood glucose levels (437 ms and 447 ms versus 430 ms, p < 0.01). Also, in these glycemia values QTc interval duration over 440 ms (46 and 62% versus 33%; p < 0.01) becomes more frequent. In healthy children and adolescents mean duration and frequency of a longer QTc interval were significantly less than in diabetic patients irrespective of glycemia degree in patients with type 1 DM (p < 0.01). A moderate correlation was found between a daily insulin dose and QTc duration (correlation coefficient 0.35, p = 0.02). CONCLUSION: Glycemia under 3 mmol/l and over 19 mmol/l can prolong QT interval and, therefore, raise the risk of cardiovascular death in patients with type 1 DM.

ABSTRACT

We measured QT interval in 43 children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus and studied its dependence on age, disease duration, metabolic control, and dose of insulin. Control group consisted of 37 healthy children and adolescents. Duration of QT during 24 hours was longer in patients as compared with controls. Patients also more often had prolonged QT. Both in patients and controls there was no relation between age and QRc. There was no interrelationship in patients between glycated hemoglobin, diabetes duration and lenght of QTc. Moderate correlation was revealed between dose of insulin administered in 24 hours and length of QTc.

ABSTRACT

Background activity of brain cortex neurons in ontogenesis appears very early, soon after completion of their migration. At the moment of its appearance, the background has several peculiarities, the most characteristic of which are its episodic character and synchronous fires of adjacent neurons forming domains. This paper considers mechanisms determined the appearance and the most characteristic peculiarities of the background of cerebral cortex neurons in ontogenesis.

ABSTRACT

The developed methods of wounds closure were successfully used in 25 patients aged from 15 to 55 years with open and gunshot fractures of the lower extremities. The former method consists in gradual putting of wound borders on Kirschner's wires and gradual closure of wound defect. The latter method is based on using original removable plate sutures which permit to regulate degree of adaptation of wound borders. Indications and contraindications for methods were determined.

ABSTRACT

The experience gained with diagnosing and treating 228 females aged 20 to 68 years who had breast cysts has shown that its diagnosis is verified by a combination of ultrasonography, mammography, and aspiration fine-needle biopsy. The use of needle pneumoethanol therapy permits effective cure.

ABSTRACT

In the review on the basis of data of different authors, the development dynamics of the rabbit neocortex in prenatal life is presented. The main points of neurons development, interneuronal contacts, layer-by-layer and areal differentiation as well as neocortex afferental and efferental communications, that are elucidated ambiguously by investigators, are discussed. For the purpose of determination of the neocortex maturation to the birth-date the comparative analysis of the reference morphological data and author's own neurophysiological data is accomplished.

ABSTRACT

For higher efficacy of general purulent peritonitis treatment, intraperitoneal perfusion of Perftoran emulsion was proposed. The drug was administered as a single dose of 100-150 ml before wound suturing. In 48 hours an increase of phagocytizing cells fraction in peritoneal exudate and their higher functional activity was revealed: the phagocytic activity and phagocytic index was 2 times higher than in the control group, complete phagocytosis index--1.5 times higher. Significant reduction of microbial contamination in abdominal cavity was also revealed: in 48 hours there were less aerobic bacteria than in the control group, there were no anaerobic bacteria, or anaerobes were detected in a minimum quantity. Local use of Perftoran allowed to decrease the rate of repeated peritoneal sanitation by 44.4% and to decrease mortality by 5.2%.

ABSTRACT

Statistical analysis of the clinical picture, history data, intraoperative findings and outcomes of treatment in 214 patients with generalized purulent peritonitis provided an algorithm for defining of indications for programmed relaparotomy. The algorithm allowed errors to decrease from 25.2 to 2.4% in the choice of surgical policy for peritonitis and to decrease mortality from 21.0 to 16.7%.
