ABSTRACT

The puborectalis muscle sling was evaluated with MRI in 10 pediatric patients who had rectal pull-through surgery for anorectal anomalies. MRI (1.5T) demonstrated the puborectalis muscle equally or better than CT in 5 patients who had both CT and MRI. The amount of puborectalis muscle mass and the location of the pulled-through intestine in relation to the puborectalis sling was well shown with MRI. Our study suggests that MRI can be reliably substituted for CT in the majority of these patients, to assist in planning further surgery for relief of persistent postoperative fecal incontinence.

ABSTRACT

The magnetic resonance (MR) imaging features are described in a case of gallbladder carcinoma presenting as a fungating mass associated with gallstones as well as biliary obstruction due to pancreaticoduodenal lymph node metastasis. The MR findings complemented diagnostic observations made on preoperative sonography and computed tomography of the abdomen.

ABSTRACT

In recent years MRI has made increasingly important contributions to the evaluation of the orbit and optic pathway. The unique ability of MRI to demonstrate soft tissue contrast allows exquisite demonstration of anatomic detail. MRI technique and normal anatomy are reviewed. Today, optimal ophthalmologic work-up is often incomplete without the critical input of the radiologist.

ABSTRACT

Stridor was present for at least three months in a 9-year-old boy whose cervical trachea contained granulation tissue in association with a chronically enlodged plastic wheel, 1.8 cm in diameter. Roentgenograms revealed irregularly lobulated narrowing of the cervical trachea. Our clinical impression was croup until bronchoscopic examination led to removal of the toy. We could elicit no history of aspiration. Chronic stridor in association with a radiolucent intratracheal foreign body is unusual in the absence of a history of aspiration.
