ABSTRACT

The authors give an account of their experience with scleral fixation of posterior chamber intraocular lenses by a stitch into the ciliary sulcus. The fixation was made in two patients as a secondary implantation, in eight patients on account of rupture of the posterior lenticular capsule during extracapsular extraction of cataract and in two instances after a perforating injury of the eye and anterior vitrectomy. In two instances a subluxated cataract was involved.

ABSTRACT

Metastasis of a tumour in the ureteral stump after nephrectomy for a primary tumour is very rare. Only 44 cases have been published so far. Our paper reports on a metastasis of Grawitz's tumour in the ureteral stump diagnosed 28 years after nephrectomy for a primary tumour. The authors have shown a low biological activity in this tumour.

ABSTRACT

Renal colic symptoms may be caused by an aberrant vascular bundle that intermittently incarcerates the pyeloureteral junction. The authors describe 6 patients who were complaint free except for the period of fits and routine urological examinations showed normal findings. The patients had no subjective complaints after open surgery.

ABSTRACT

The good results on dogs, particularly in the patch substitute group, show that the Tunica vaginalis-periorchium-substitution of defects of the urethra fulfils all the expectations wanted. From this we conclude the right to recommend the broader use of this method in man.

ABSTRACT

In 25 patients with carcinoma of the prostate (CaP) T3 and in a comparative group of 18 patients with BPH the serum enzymes of AP, tartrate labile AP, LDH, and iso-LDH were investigated simultaneously in basal conditions and after standardized transrectal prostatic biopsy. AP, PAP as well as LDH were shown to be of small diagnostic aid. The reaction of serum enzyme levels following the standardized prostatic biopsy was the same in both CaP and BPH patients. In studying LDH-isoenzymes, we found that the third fraction was elevated in almost all patients. This change is apparently not of prostatic origin, and we could not attribute it to the concomitant diseases found in some patients.

ABSTRACT

In 26 patients with carcinoma of the prostate (CaP) the histochemical and histological characteristics of the tumour were compared with the clinical course in both untreated patients and in those receiving hormonal therapy. In the control group 16 patients with BPH were examined in the same way. It was found that histological types of CaP cannot be identified by grading. Higher frequency of very strong LDH activity in CaP was the only distinction against BPH.
