ABSTRACT

A scheme is presented to realize a single-photon transistor based on cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) with Rydberg atomic ensemble. By combining the advantages of the cavity-enhanced interaction and Rydberg blockade, we achieve a high gain single-photon transistor. The numerical calculation shows that by using one single gate photon more than one thousand source photons can be switched.

ABSTRACT

Quantum controlled-phase-flip (CPF) gate between a flying photon qubit and a stationary atomic qubit could allow the linking of distant computational nodes in a quantum network. Here we present a scheme to realize quantum CPF gate between a flying optical photon and an atomic ensemble based on cavity input-output process and Rydberg blockade. When a flying single-photon pulse is reflected off the cavity containing a Rydberg atomic ensemble, the dark resonance and Rydberg blockade induce a conditional phase shift for the photon pulse, thus we can achieve the CPF gate between the photon and the atomic ensemble. Assisted by Rydberg blockade interaction, our scheme works in the N-atoms strong-coupling regime and significantly relaxes the requirement of strong coupling of single atom to photon in the optical cavity.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease characterized by insulin resistance in the target tissue of insulin with insufficient insulin secretion in pancreatic ß-cells. Src homology 2-containing 5'-inositol phosphatase 2 (SHIP2) is a lipid phosphatase that hydrolyzes PI3-kinase product PI(3,4,5)P3 to PI(3,4)P2, which contributes to the negative regulation of insulin signaling both in vitro and in vivo. Some polymorphisms of SHIP2 have been reported to be associated with the metabolic syndrome including T2DM and hypertension in British, French and Japanese T2DM population. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In our present study, we investigated the relation between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on SHIP2 gene and the pathogenesis of T2DM in Chinese Han population. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicated that the genotype and allele frequency of SHIP2 (+1893CC/AA) locus in T2DM patients showed significantly different from between the healthy control population. In addition, the G allele of SHIP2 (+2945A/G) seemed to increase the susceptibility to hypertension for T2DM patients.

ABSTRACT

In buffer medium of hexamethylene tetraamine-HCl at pH 5.9 the aluminium(III) complex with salicylidene-o-aminophenol (SAP) has a fluorescence peak at 508 nm with excitation at 410 nm. When nucleic acid coexists, it reacts with the complex within 8 min at room temperature to produce a non-fluorescent product, resulting in the decrease of fluorescence intensity of the aluminium complex. On basis of this, a new fluorometric method for nucleic acids determination is proposed. The calibration graphs for calf thymus DNA, fish sperm DNA and yeast RNA are linear up to 5.0, 4.0 and 3.0 microg ml(-1), respectively, and corresponding detection limits are 49, 52 and 62 ng ml(-1). The synthetic samples are analyzed with relative standard deviation of five measurements of 3.9-6.0%. DNA in an extraction product from human blood is determined using the calibration graph for calf thymus DNA, and the result is very close to that by the ethidium bromide assay. Compared with some established fluorometric methods, this procedure is sensitive, selective, reliable, reproducible and practical. The association constant of calf thymus DNA with the complex is estimated by two graphic methods. It is suggested that the binding reaction between nucleic acids with the complex proceeds in an intercalation way.

ABSTRACT

30 cases of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) with non-myeloid blast crisis from 1966 to 1986 in PUMC Hospital were investigated. Morphologically 18 cases were lymphoblastic, 4 histiocytic, 3 basophilic, 2 erythro-leukemic, 2 megakaryocytic, and 1 monocytic, the ratio between male and female was 3.3:1, and their age ranged from 16 to 55 years. These results suggest that blast crisis of CML may involve many other cellular derivatives than the myeloid series of the pluripotential stem cells, Spleen was not palpable among half of the patients with lymphoblastic crisis, but all the cases with blast crisis of other morphological types had enlarged lives and spleen, especially those with histiocytic and monocytic crisis of CML. Most of cases of CML with non-myeloid blast crisis had poor prognosis with survival time of less than 6 months. However, cases of CML with lymphoblastic crisis had longer survival duration than those with non-myeloid blast crisis of other types.
